I fully agreed with George's comments on Malong and ZhangJike. Malong failed five times to won WTTC but Jike won it with a less time.

agree. he was doing mostly all high arc loops and putting them back in nice and easy. taku was going easy in the beginning too to match jike's pace, but then he started playing seriously after 4 min mark while jike was still doing the lazy practice play. look at 5:21. i can count at least 3 times he'd done the same exact 5 shot combo. it's like he's practicing.

It's obvious that Zhang Jike played seriously. His footwork was great as usual, but he had quite a few mistakes with the backhand, which was crucial for him because he uses the backhand more often than other players like Ma Long.

to my point of view, from what i see about the match, i think ZJK didn't play the match, but only practised his backhand and block. from two months, he showed intox on all his match, to avoid the pressure. he know that everyone is looking at him, but he wanted to play badly and showed also he is injured. from this way, everyone would think he'll never win the next WC.

In the other hand Taku hold his ground until the very end. He deserved the victory.

I see lots of people commenting about ma long & zhang jike and how ML is better. Well ma long had his chances and failed 5 times . 2 world cup losses against timo boll and samsonov, 2 wttc losses against wang hao and one loss against timo boll again @ the WTTTC 2010 when he was trailing 2-0 and lost 3-2 . ZJK had fewer chances and grand slammed

Don't be so quick to condemn ZJK's bh. Remember, he has one of the best bh's ever: versatile, powerful, precise, consistent. By the fourth game he had already racked up 11 bh winners where Taku couldn't even get his paddle on them, to only 4 unforced bh errors. Most pros don't even have fhs that good.

its hard to motivate you, when you now "you are the best", zhang is the olympic champion, also the world champion, a perfekt tt maschine.
but he can`t be win every single match, nobody can do this .... i think he`s a little bit tired and i understand it.

CNT has shown up rusty early in the year for the past couple of years... Also looks like ZJK might've been playing w/o booster... ball doesn't look like it has the same pop it usually does.

no one is commenting on Fang bo (ittf ranking 74) winning hao shuai (ittf ranking 12) in the final men's game. when people have problem with other people they would find a reason to talk about the person.

Why does everyone call him arrogant and cocky? Yes he celebrates a great deal when he wins a big tournament but so what? He is 24 years old only, and has accomplished a ton. Why shouldn't he celebrate and be ecstatic when he won the olympics and the world championship? When you are a professional athlete that is your only goal, to win the big tournaments. I would find it much more weird if he was just humble and emotionless when he won the 3 majors.

i think ppl hate zjk too much. could be jealousy lol. i think he's cocky in some aspect. but not michael maze's cocky. but he's a chinese, that helps getting hate lol.
tbh it's not important tournament. i think zjk is arrogant in some way, but thats why he's so strong at big tournament, becos of his confidence.i love that he lost. cos he needa waken up, n not throw sets away. i hope to see ma long n zjk both peak at the same time at wttc final. thanks for sharing

  • @ptzslyde

I think ZJK had trouble adappting. often times when players play zjk you see them try to over powr or play faster. Taku played a slow pace and zjk did notreally change styles.he looked disinterested. expect if they matchup again for zjk to win 4-0..

I wonder if ZJK was practising his backhand during this match LOL
He's not my favorite player, but I call this "an accident" for ZJK. Pretty sure ZJK will defeat Takakiwa very badly the next time they face each other in a tournament. So I think the Japanese player should pray that he won't have to play ZJK again in his career.

So I assume Zhang Jike also beat himself when he lost to Ma Long two times in Super League...and Xu Xin two times in Super League...and Wang Liqin...and Yan An...and Zhou Yu. Zhang Jike is off form and we all need to admit it. I do sincerely hope that he gets back in form because as of next month we will most likely see him at number 8 or 9 in the world. As the Chinese proverb says: Arrogance always leads to defeat.

moreover, taku deserved his victory, but to be frankly, compared to zhang jike, he is weaker than him guys, did you notice than zjk didnt play slowly, didn't push the ball, didnt play tactically. he just test his backhand in all directions. please open your eyes, he didn't attack with force, only test his regularity at the table

  • @Molimo95

It seems to me that he think that he doesn't have to fight even if he's 4 points down in the 7th game. I know that feeling for myself. He probably thinks that he shouldn't have to fight hard against such a "weak" player, but as a Grand Slam winner you should have enough self control to overcome your ego..

I don't see how ripping off shirt is considered "arrogant." Or kissing the podium, for that matter. Atheletes from other sports do those kind of things all the time. Djokovic Novak, Usain Bolt...
Did you expect him to just smile like a nice guy after becoming world's No.1? Or are you just mad that he beat Timo Boll a couple of times in big tournaments?

Taku played very well, but he didn't beat ZJK. ZJK beat himself. His fh was completely off, so error prone, he hit more balls out than he did winners. And then late in the match his bh also fell apart, making a string of errors.

I too don't understand why one would cheer a player's loss ... but I'll admit ZJK is one of my least favourite players and this has to do with his playing style. I do not find he's very creative, sometimes almost a robotic executor of practice drills, relying on prevailing on consistency in backhand rallies.
I don't know about his personality but I think that if wants to stay with the top 3 he'll have to change style to something more creative and attacking.
    With sympathy.

that's what he deserved. You'll never see ma long giving half percent of his game, even if he plays against a number 50. Zhang Jike loses for his extremely confidence, while Ma Long loses when he's being humble with his mind and game. IDK about you but i prefer a perseverant humble player that an arrogant, it doesn't matter the titles he had won if he just retributes them to himself being a piece of shit.
