Archspire is currently setting the benchmark as far as how insanely technical, you can play metal. Especially their drummer Spencer Prewett impresses me, but the whole band is on another level! Thanks for giving them a chance, Beth! Stay tech! ;)
Leonid, I like Spawn of Possession very much, especially their 'Cabinet' album. But I still think Archspire has taken all things tech a notch further than the rest of them.. :)
I don't agree with them setting the benchmark, other bands have played as or even more technical than them. That being said: who cares, they still rule. Stay Tech!
The guy has done vocal play throughs and a karaoke version of some tracks. Both have lyrics to follow. As well as close up footage of his face. The man is a beast.
Watching Beth rock her head to this song fills me with joy. Beth, you're not alone in being able to keep up. I've been listening to this band for years, the gun blast sound is why I keep coming back!
I'm so pleased by someone unfamiliar with extreme metal having so much respect for it! It really rubs some people the wrong way lol. Gotta name drop Luc Lemay of Gorguts now, one of my favorite harsh vocalists. Travis of Cattle Decapitation is worth checking out too, especially in live shots. Thanks!
The audience are so chill because a lot of tech-death fans are there to take in the technicality rather than go nuts, xD. I can see how it's hard to believe though, the music itself is rather nuts and I love it. :3
Leonid Isachenko Funny, for me its exactly the other way around. Relentless Mutation is so much more atmospheric and not just bashes your head away like lucid collective does ;P
From what I've read he's massively inspired by rappers. And in a vocal style where you can't really fall back on melody, makes sense to look at other styles that keep it interesting with rhythm. Also lay off the crowd haha, I've been front row of an Archspire gig and after 30-40 mins of 300 BPM headbanging you really need a break here and there.
YEEEESSSS!!!! I can only hope this is the beginning of Archspire spreading like wildfire among the reaction community. There are a few out there, but not nearly enough.
I wanna see her react to involuntary Doppleganger by archspire as well. Also, for more of that gunshot vocal style, check out my favorite band, Shadow of Intent play Battle of the Maginot Sphere.
Tbh shadow of intent just does every vocal style. Their vocalist is just so fucking talented he manages to make oli look average in comparison and oli is one of the best singers around. Shits insane, dude will do 8 different screams in 1 breath
The genuine joy of a person that, assumably not being into Death Metal, just adores the music for what it is, even finds some little song writing elements and loves the energy instead of going "OMG it's all so loud, WHY IS HE SO FAST OMG OMG". Refreshing indeed.
Your genuine excitement for learning how voice is used in any musical context is truly amazing. Also, seeing you gently headbang to technical death metal warmed me heart. Keep up the great work!
Oliver is so talented and such a nice person. I was fortunate enough to chat with him for a couple minutes on their current headline tour. Thanks for the video!
The best thing about this band is they manage to hit that *groove* that you can feel, even if metal isn't your thing. You remember it. And then you can start to really pick it apart, at which point your satisfaction just amplifies.
"Like a real angry seal" is the most amusing thing I've heard in a while lol. Also the vocalist is a massive hip hop fan. I think he said his favorite is Tech N9ne, who heavily influenced his rapid gunshot vocal style
@@mrdeathamore pretty hard to nail that stuff live, thats why Infant Annihilator dont play live because its just segmented and put together. At least they try.
@@dregnar85 that is not an argument, if you play your stuff live you should be able to play it properly. otherwise you should stay a studio band. and no, infant annihilator isn't hard, most of their drum tracks are programmed and it just isn't supposed to played live
@@dregnar85 I've said it's not an argument to justify a band who decent at studio but mediocre live. I've seen Archspire live too and man, there are much better live bands out there. I was lucky to see Cynic in 2010 and that was so much better, but thats actually not a surprise since Cynic musicians are much more skilled.
You asked something along the lines of "Why is everyone in the crowd so chill". And I'm gonna answer to this as one of the people who had the honour to see them live. To put it simply all the melodies and intricate guitar work just leaves you in awe and you don't really feel like moshing or moving around too much. Their music just captivates your whole being and you feel like you're in a storm of neoclassical motives floating all around you and it's so colourful and enchanting, absolutely negating the effect of the idea that you're at a death metal show. I dare everyone who hasn't been to a tech death show, just go and pick a nice melodic band like Inferi, Fallujah, Irreversible Mechanism, Archspire etc. and go to one of their shows. Your preconceived notion about death metal will vanish as soon as the performers go up on stage, I can guarantee.
@@mrdeathamore Define *modern tech death* . Technical death metal is a relatively new form of a subgenre, at least in the form we know it right now as we speak. If you're referring to early Decapitated and Nile I get your point, you're a "traditionalist". But even so I don't see much of a difference between the quintessential traits of old and contemporary tech death, except for the personal approach to song composition by the bands in this, same wheelhouse. And by the way how did you end up liking The Lucid Collective? It's only 5 years old!

As a Canadian it's really cool to see you giving some Canadian bands some love (first our boy Devin Townsend and now Archspire) and I hope you don't stop here. Maybe some Unleash the Archers in the future?
Saw them live when they came to Australia and it was surreal hearing how clean they are live, especially how good Olivers vocals sounded. Was not expecting them to be sooo tight. They were also extremely friendly, which is always great to see.
I love how open minded you are. Everyone I know just goes on about how they cant understand what they're saying blah blah blah but they dont understand the level of talent and WORK that goes into extreme metal genres

A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one
Same. Totally aghast, but in a good way. What a woman.
