Mazda3 was on my short list but the firm ride caused me to choose the Elantra. Wife has spinal problems and lives in constant pain. The Elantra has a smooth ride over bumps compared to the Mazda3. I'm averaging 30 US gallons per mile in town driving only.
On the cusp of 2022, this review is very interesting. Not in a bad way. But about how much vehicles have changed. AND Not in many cases, for the better.
enemay I'm very lucky and thankful that I live in Asia.. It is marketed here as the Corolla Altis and in my opinion is way more better than the U.S. version. although I can't afford it yet,I would buy the Corolla if i have the means. worth the money for a quality product. That's probably why it's the best selling compact sedan.
+Victor Sarmiento sorry this is a long ago video but I just read the comments.. and we also own a corolla altis here in asia and we used to have the 2.0V top of the line spec which is great, has 145hp and 187ft/lbs torque which our car is so light to feel in acceleration.
Ford Focus defin fun to drive, comfortable seats, responsive and feels well built, pity about the more than questionable transmission in the Petrol engine 2012 - 2014 models, simliar to VW Golf DSG issues of previous. have to give this one a miss based on that, the thought of jerky transmission and loss of power not worth the risk.
I have settled for and love my 2014 Cruze hatch SRi 1.6 auto which has mixed leather / material seats that are comfortable. The car is surprisingly spacious and is definitely fun to drive as a daily commuter but hate the major security risk built in as a result of compulsory auto head light control. Your quoted fuel consumption for this 1.6 auto must be for open road driving only as urban driving is much higher. haha Interior design wise, the plastic feel is acceptable as most small / medium size cars have that problem. All cars featured in this video have complicated operation buttons, screens, etc and almost mandate a competency certificate to be able the operate these controls properly. ha-ha ..... but ...... I suppose that is a sign of the times. ha-ha
The corolla is better than the ford focus ? Are you serious guys ? if you compare the focus with the mazda 3 than it's ok because they both have the same type o driving and ride quality. for me the ford focus is the winner then my second choise is the mazda 3, then the Kia cerato
i think the reviews were done in no particular order, and at the end he stated its a race between the two top sellers in Australia (not based on the best in class). Think it was more of a general overview of the cars and not picking which the the best/worst
I wonder if the Mazda has as comfortable seats as the Ford Falcons, I love my fords but eventually im going to have to go with something else when the Falcon goes :'( they always offered massive value for money. BTW tried the Ford Focus, found the seats way to angled which you couldn't change and much to hard for my liking, otherwise i liked the car, i like soft squishy seats. Would it be possible to remove the front existing seats in the focus and put in seats from the current falcons, or falcon seats in the Mazda for that matter?
U blokes of course the Corolla. It's the best selling car in Australia from 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. And it is the world's best selling car from 2014-16. And it's a fact it is the best selling car of ALL TIME. No other car have sold more than the Toyota Corolla. It makes u blokes wonder why it is the most popular car of all time.
+Hasoumi the Rio and Accent compete in the "Light Car" class in Australia. Every country have different classifications of class for vehicles. These cars compete in the "Small Car" class.
Since the year 2000 Ford of Europe have been making the best driver's cars around and sell very well over there. Here in Australia they haven't sold well at all. Is it because we are no longer keen drivers or we simply don't trust Ford Australia?
When we have cars that drive just as well like the Mazda3 but are far more reliable, why do we need to deal with Ford’s BS engine and transmission issues. Of course European cars sell better in Europe where parts are locally sourced, down here it’s geographically closer to Japan and Korea so Euro parts are expensive and take a long time to ship, combined with the fact you’d be needing to visit the mechanic for aforementioned repairs more than a Japanese car, the Australian buying public clearly made the smarter choice suited to us. Petrol here is also of RON91 quality so we aren’t fond of it. 90-95% cars sold are auto and Ford’s have made waves with their failing PowerShit transmissions. Again a Mazda drives just as well, has a reliable engine + transmission package no matter what combo you choose, no “undersized engines that have been turbocharged” nonsense so no need for expensive petrol + cheaper parts. Plus the Focus has a crappy plasticky interior full of buttons. It’s no wonder Focus sales have ranked, Mazda3 is the highest ranked for private sellers and the Corolla serves the fleet market.
Because at the start of the review he states they picked the BEST small sedans for the review, and in Australia the new Civic sedan is not considered very good, especially in comparison to these cars
John Lane The Civic is most definitely betyer than the Cruze, but perhaps by the time this reveiw was being conducted, Honda Civic sedan sales were very low, or Honda didnt loan one?
Car reviewers always go for the drivers car, but the Mazda has its failing as they say. Smaller interior, especially in back, not good if you need the kids comfortable in back. Poor noise dampening, and firm ride. Price I think is actually slightly higher than other like for like IMO
+hamza alhineidi the current Honda Civic is not considered very good in Australia, especially compared to the models in the review. Also, these reviews are done if the manufacturer choose to give a model to be reviewed. Honda Australia probably didn't want to give a car because they know it would come last. This may change with the new generation Civic coming to Aus later this year. Has been getting rave reviews in the US
cloudparter You might want to complain to Dodge (Chrysler/Fiat) about that. They don't sell the Dart in Australia, so they couldn't have tested it in this review even if they wanted to.
George McKean Or, no...the Elantra and Cerato are actually pretty good. I have hired both the Corolla and the Elantra in the last few years and liked both of them. And seeing the Cerato is a reskinned Elantra I could include that. What the Elantra and Cerato have in common with the Corolla but the 3 struggles with is rear leg room. Impreza is good, but could use more poke to drive all four wheels. But a solid car nonetheless. Focus is fine, bar rear leg room. The only car I wouldn't gave here is the Cruze.
Corolla is the worst in my opinion. The interior feels the cheapest, in both design and materials like it should be from the Yaris class of vehicle. The styling is awkward and clumsy. The handling and suspension are doughy and too soft, so it's dynamically the worst small car to drive.
+guru gara Sorry bud, but it really does feel like it is from the Yaris in terms of material quality and design. How would you even know if the interior felt cheap compared to competitors? Or anything compared to competitors for that matter? You Toyota buyers don't even bother comparing any other cars, you just walk straight into the Toyota showroom and sign away like a sheep so your comments are meaningless to me. If you weren't just a sheep you wouldn't have bought the Corolla because other cars are objectively better and you would have realised that... had you tested them... which you didn't. Corolla torquey? haha hard to believe given it has the least about of torque from any car in this class! Don't take my comments the wrong way. The Corolla maybe the worst out of the small car class, but it's definitely not a bad car. It's safe and reliable and if that's just the type of person you are - not one to use your imagination or take any sort of risks in life, then it's just fine. But you won't get to experience very much and will have a very limited and boring life.
+guru gara Honda lol. Another once great brand now producing average undesirable cars that are beaten by other brands like Mazda and Hyundai in mainstream appeal and quality.
- and yes. You must have a boring safe life. No risk taking. No trying anything new. Just the same tried and tested boring routine. Your car of choice says a lot about you. All psychology my friend.
+guru gara It says a lot about your personality, and your personality says a lot about the life choices you make. Is that so bloody hard to understand???
"its the same in the back"
I love my mazda3 sedan... best fuel economy. once I managed 21.8 km/liter.
Even without watching this video i would buy the Mazda :P
I knew it d be the winner.
Hyundai Elantra !!
Mazda3 was on my short list but the firm ride caused me to choose the Elantra. Wife has spinal problems and lives in constant pain. The Elantra has a smooth ride over bumps compared to the Mazda3. I'm averaging 30 US gallons per mile in town driving only.
Sailor Dave Elantra is also a good pick.
On the cusp of 2022, this review is very interesting. Not in a bad way. But about how much vehicles have changed. AND Not in many cases, for the better.
A shot for every time he says "It's the same back here"
Why does the Asian version of Corolla look better than the US? Why not bring the same Corolla to North America?
enemay I'm very lucky and thankful that I live in Asia.. It is marketed here as the Corolla Altis and in my opinion is way more better than the U.S. version. although I can't afford it yet,I would buy the Corolla if i have the means. worth the money for a quality product. That's probably why it's the best selling compact sedan.
Joseph King J Uk Asian Australian Corolla looks the same, US version, looks like cheap shit.
Joseph King J Yeah, but Europe and Asia has the same spec with this particular model.
But this version of the Corolla looks like the U.S. Camry.
+Victor Sarmiento sorry this is a long ago video but I just read the comments.. and we also own a corolla altis here in asia and we used to have the 2.0V top of the line spec which is great, has 145hp and 187ft/lbs torque which our car is so light to feel in acceleration.

that copycat in the back of the cars kept saying "it's much the in the back"
shut up !
Corolla is way above them all. The only worthy competitor is the Civic.
the cruze is much older than the focus, i don't know why he said the focus is the oldest design here.
kia cerato
The corolla is better than the ford focus ? Are you serious guys ? if you compare the focus with the mazda 3 than it's ok because they both have the same type o driving and ride quality. for me the ford focus is the winner then my second choise is the mazda 3, then the Kia cerato

Focus uncomfortable the passanger
Corolla is cheaper to maintain in the long run, that's why i bought one.
Joseph Doe And rear leh room and boot space is really good. Im giving in to my wife...'yes dear, get the Corolla, if it is the sedan'.
Could you have found a more base model of the Focus to compare all the other cars to? Don't think so.
Toyota is the best
I wonder if the Mazda has as comfortable seats as the Ford Falcons, I love my fords but eventually im going to have to go with something else when the Falcon goes :'( they always offered massive value for money. MaZEEZaM You don't conpare a 3 with a Falcon. A 6 maybe, but not a 3.
did anyone wonder were the Honda civic was?!
Nicholas Becerra It died of boredom....
where's honda civic !!!
U blokes of course the Corolla. It's the best selling car in Australia from 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. And it is the world's best selling car from 2014-16. civic is the best, u guys dint even bring one
Because at the start of the review he states they picked the BEST small sedans for the review, and in Australia the new Civic sedan is not considered very good, especially in comparison to these cars
gde1989 Lol civic should be up there...the cruze is crap, I', pretty sure the only reason Australians buy holden is because holden is Australian.
John Lane The Civic is most definitely betyer than the Cruze, but perhaps by the time this reveiw was being conducted, Honda Civic sedan sales were very low, or Honda didnt loan one?
Are those fuel figures real or claimed?
Those are the claimed fuel figures given by the car companies.
Car reviewers always go for the drivers car, but the Mazda has its failing as they say. Smaller interior, especially in back, not good if you need the kids comfortable in back. Poor noise dampening, and firm ride. Price I think is actually slightly higher than other like for like IMO
Isn’t the firm ride necessary to have the great handling ? Mazda 3 has the best handling in the class.
Jetta???
You should've got the chevrolet cruze imstead of the holden cruze. Holden cruze is just a dumb replica of chevrolet's version.
+Abdullah Aldosari Chevrolet don't have a presence in Australia, so as Holden is the GM subsidiary in Australia, it is sold as a Holden.
+Abdullah Aldosari Swap Holdens crap reliability for Chevy's equally crap one? No thanks.
+Alex Pittendreigh exactly american cars cant turn
Abdullah Aldosari They are both Daewoo in the end, but the Chev is the North American Daewoo 😉
Zachary Jo The Cruze to the Corvette says you're full of shit.
Civic ???

abed azem Totally a different catagory in terms of size, pricing and specs.

Carlos González Shat sould be the Sentra in Australia. The Pulsar?

Issa Khnouf Yeah, the Cerato is a pretty good car. It has my attention and I am trying to convince the wife to buy one for her car.
I think the Elantra
No Dodge Dart? Come ooon.
cloudparter You might want to complain to Dodge (Chrysler/Fiat) about that. They don't sell the Dart in Australia, so they couldn't have tested it in this review even if they wanted to.
Dart is being discontinued. My nephew has one. Been recalled more times than I can count:)
Quality is TERRIBLE

Christopher Burns no mate it's Holden
#1. Toyota Corolla, $2. Subaru Impreza, #3. Mazda-3,....the rest are junk!
