Love Russ Conways music especially China tea appsalutly perfect sir very much love the way you play exactly how he does always tried to master how he does so but you've done it perfectly
@david1972a I really appreciate your very kind remarks and your enthusiasm for a style of music that seems to have disappeared into the past. I'll do what I can to keep it going, though!
@MarcusTomatos Thanks for the info on the middle tune - I had never heard it before and now I suppose I'm gonna have to learn it Meanwhile I can't help wondering just how many pianos Mike Thompson has got through .There are at least 4 different models in his videos.- probably more!
Yes Mike, the piano sounded great . Just like the 1957 - 1960 Abbey Road original Conway piano. I can't really believe you parted with it! So probably no more gems to find re the old camcorder... pity. Cheers Mark
Wow Mike, the monkey gland injections are working a treat, you look about 35! This is a brilliant performance, so why have you kept it under wraps for so long? 'Party Pops No.2' part 2 of course, with the middle tune being 'I'll Buy You A Star', for those who want to know. Really like the right hand work towards the end - fantastic as always. Cheers Mark
Nice one! That's an assortment I've not heard before, particularly not in Russ-style... the first one I recognise as "All The Way", the last one is "My Special Angel" but what's the one in the middle?
It is indeed irreversible and wouold sound unusual, although the effect can be very slightly softened by liberal application of solvent. Some work was done on the action after I gave it away, and I suppose it's possible that sanding the hammers might have removed some of the lacquer near the striking surface. I think I played it once after it had gone, but I can't recall much about it. Even my grand's hammers were lacquered to a degree when Steinway fitted a new action. This is what they do.
If you had lacquered the hammers with nail varnish I thought it was a irreversible change. If the piano was in standard tuning it will sound 'unusual'.
LOL - I hope Russ doesn't see this - but I think your version is better than his - if I dare say so. As far as the pianos are concerned, maybe you should put them on Ebay when you've finished with them Mike - so that those of us who are struggling to emulate you and Russ can bid for them and perhaps get a bit nearer that real sound.
There must be some techno-geek that can make a file that can make a digital piano take on the personality of that old Marshall-Rose. You mentioned that you gave the piano itself away. It still survives?

Thanks, Bob - it's very nice of you to say that.
Kind regards, Mike

I think I must wear them out quickly with that ham-fisted piano style!
