- Taken from his 2006 special Like, Totally... Dylan Moran (Creator and Star of Bafta-winning sitcom Black Books) discusses America being portrayed as the promised land and how American stupid people, sound more stupid than normal stupid people.
Dylan also tries his best to explain how Arnold Schwarzenegger was Governor of California (now that's a perfectly ordinary sentence...NOT)

Well whenever people assume it cannot go any more stupid, America goes, hold my beer.
"hold my beer" - America
@TalorcMcAllan The former US president once thought, Belgium is one city and also said that Africa is a single country. True expert in whatever his field is 😉
Bingo, I've lived here for 24 years. Calling Americans stupid is an understatement
Give us Americans a chance, there are new lows that even we haven't been able to reach yet.
@@ulaper6465 except that Europeans are even stupider
As an American, I'm absolutely loving how many of my fellow Americans can't laugh at themselves. Especially since most of them would be all "calm down, it's just a joke!" if they told it.
@@Onora619 It’s interesting how Europeans can’t laugh at themselves.
If only we all knew just how bad it would get....
I love it when people take the piss out of Americans! As someone born and raised there I've been mocking their idiocy my whole life. It's pretty disturbing how many won't countenance the notion that they are disturbing to others. Patriotism isn't loyalty to the power structure, it's the courage to defy a power structure that isn't loyal to its people.
Yeah, if you were born and raised there, you'd know that that's a generalization that can apply to anywhere in the world
What really gets me about the Yanks is that crazy health system of theirs. And they actually accept it and think it's good.
Yeah you and many other people were also taught by the media to hate themselves. It's a pretty sad and pathetic thing to watch, like cuckhold porn.
@Finn MickCool Are projection and irony big words too? You see I am not American and actually believe Trump is a fake president, but in your brainwashed arrogance, severe case of dunning kruger and overeagerness to virtue signal and "own da right wingers" you failed to consider that possibility. Awkward.
@Finn MickCool there you go projecting again, thanks for proving my point haha. Unfortunately for you no one cares what "you think"
15 years later, if anything has changed it's that he's even more right.
I wonder if he ever bombed? He's so effortlessly great it seems unlikely but, they say all stand-ups have bombed at times 🤔
@@pseudonayme7717 I had never heard of him until one time I saw him live when he was called up at last minute to fill in for Jo Brand who couldn't make it. He fell back on crowdwork, and even his crowdwork was brilliant... effortlessly ridiculing the audience. Similar style to DL Hughley.
It got MORE stupid.
15 years later he's back on the sauce and so drunk that he cant even speak on stage let alone stand up.
As an American... I couldn't agree more. Stupid starts at the top and trickles all the way down to the aisles of Walmart.
you American has been stay strong from previous century, why would you let down your empire like this? it's just petty and painfull to watch
Is that how 'trickle down' politics work?

You can't take offence from an Irishmen they've been fuck'd over too many times themselves. lol
It is not just Americans, though. Read, "Our Culture: What's Left of It" by Theodore Dalrymple. "The knife went in" be a typical way for stabbers to talk even in the UK, which I have read also contains some stupid people.

Things I've noticed from the comments.
1. People from the US confuse their country with a continent.
2. Some people are unaware that Dylan has an Irish, not British, accent.
3. Some people think that Ireland is part of the United Kingdom.
4. People from the U.S. don't have a sense of humour when the joke is on them.
Generalize much? As a US born citizen I am laughing at his observations with tears down my face. More so as one living in California. I won’t bother with your other assertions but at least you said “some” in 2 and 3.

@@AndreaMoore-Emmett You're right, people from the US wouldn't conflate their country with a continent, they don't even know the etymological difference.

I love how he says completely normal words 95% of the time but throws in little gems that makes it so funny. That's what the best comics do isn't it? Turn ordinary life on its head with one or two unexpected words in a sentence. I love Dylan. "They weigh as much as a photograph of themselves."
That's a quality I love to see in writers as well.
It's why I've been a fan of his work for years.

He is such a good stand up comedian- his delivery is so smooth and well timed he makes it look easy, as anyone who has even told a joke (let alone tried stand up comedy) knows- it's not that easy to be funny, especially with orginality.
He needs to do a 2020 update. Things haven’t improved a helluva lot.
If things didn't improve that much, what would an update be good for since nothing has changed?
It's hard to satire the absurd.

Marko Rollo - Yeah, that's a thing they inherited from mom and dad, who were the children of people who immigrated from the old country. It's a matter of perspective - remember, the US is a very young country. We're less than 250 years old. You're English - compare that to YOUR country. Families in your country go back over a thousand years.
Here in the US, back in the day, when immigrants arrived, everybody was Polish, or German, or Italian, or Croatian, or Lithuanian, or Chinese, or Mexican...you name it. FGS, when I was a kid not all that long ago, we got to know each other with the question "What nationality are you?" And you were Polish, or German, or French, or Italian, or Croatian, or Lithuanian, or Chinese or whatever. Even if you were born here. Even if your parents were. There are still neighborhoods in many of the older US cities that are Polish or German or (fill in the blank), although most who have been here for two or three generations have intermarried and moved on from identifying that way, although even now some still do. We just aren't old enough as a country to have forgotten our antecedents. And as each new wave of immigrants arrive, they go thru the same process. But remember, NONE us can trace our US ancestry back further than 250 years, because the US didn't exist before that.

Did she think it was endearing or edgy to come across like that... I just don't get it and I'm still annoyed lol.
Yep, I’ve encountered the same level of stupidity ( and ignorance) from some of my fellow Americans when I’ve travelled. It’s embarrassing. On the other hand, There are those of us who drive our families crazy by reading every little brochure and plaque and researching ahead of time whatever museum or landmark we visit.
@@eskimberly7424 (psst! Get a new family)
@@eskimberly7424 To be fair, there are idiots from all countries. Every time I go to Copenhagen, I have a favorite spot in front of a museum to sit and watch the (mainly) British tourists get smacked and cursed out by Danish cyclists because the Brits are standing in the cycling lane while waiting to cross the intersection....it's very entertaining.
@@DS-rt1ed very nice. I'd love to get one as well.
Try being in a World Heritage Site when a cruise liner comes in to port.
The IQ of the area drops to single figures. They have no idea where they are, what they are looking at. Just take their selfies go to the next buffet, buy some crap at the local market then get back on the boat.
Still they benefit the local economy.
My absolute favourite comic
Comedian: Americans
The World: *hysterical laughter*
🤣
The guy barfing the first time Dylan mentioned ‘America’ made my day
One of my favorite bits of all time!!
Dylan Moran is a national treasure.
Does he have to be? Why can't he just be an amazing comedian? Does he belong to the state?
