Communication, complex relationships, religion and so many more things from birth until 6/7 they are in a very special mind set that allows them to learn, retain and recall the information learned in those short years. So much for:"Instincts are a social construct". Nope.
@@lionsodiederishlukes8852fuente: de los deseos
@@lionsodiederishlukes8852 Nah. We have instincts. It's just that, at some point, biologists and physicians decided that 1) it was too vaguely defined, 2) some people were using the word in misleading ways, and 3) having instincts is beneath us humans. As a result, for a long time, 'instinct' was pretty much banned from both disciplines, especially when describing humans.
See my following comment to OP, though.
Britannica defines 'instinct' as:
An inborn impulse or motivation to action typically performed in response to specific external stimuli. Today instinct is generally described as a stereotyped, apparently unlearned, genetically determined behaviour pattern.
That would seem to cover what the kid did. However, fear of heights doesn't manifest in children until after they've been mobile for a while, and then only gradually increases with time. This is a strong indication that it's based on experience, rather than an inborn quality. By contrast, babies will be afraid of strangers, even without having had any experience with strangers, indicating that this is inborn.
