    A screamer disk lock in garage + very heavy chain + ground anchor alerted neighbours and slowed the thieves enough that they gave up and legged it ! My pride and joy was left on its side but undamaged.

    Another tip for the chain and lock, keep the chain(or most of it) off the ground so that it's way harder to be successfully defeated by thieves 👌👍

  • @Dave-bu6bc
    @Dave-bu6bc 2 роки тому +21

    I'm right with the "set fire to all the bike thieves" option, or similar solutions. My ground anchor is connected to a cattle fence transformer, good luck handling my chain! If I catch a bike thief I won't be handing them to the police.
    The one dirt cheap measure everyone misses is using a baby monitor under the bike cover. You can hear the thieves before they even get the cover off the bike. I've had one in every shed I've had in the last 20 years.

      Dave, I don't know if you have a short memory, but have you forgotten what happened to Tony Martin, when he shot and injured one of two country burglars? He went to jail. Better to have it "stamped" with some invisible dye spray, or every single bike part "stamped".

      @@SaffySprocket Saffy, as I think you liked my comments before, about being an ex civilian division Homeland GSM cadet, seeing as you sometimes talk like you are on a harmless drug, not wanting to hurt anybody, were you a Hells Angel, but I think you laughed, saying no you wasn't and weren't, make sure you burn all evidence of your burglar victim, then you commit the perfect crime, in my book, leaving no traces of DNA.

    Tip 5 use more than one screamer alarm in fact use as many as you can carry or afford! this might seem nuts but no bike thief is gonna risk the time cutting multiple locks off

    • @BlokeOnAMotorbike
      @BlokeOnAMotorbike 10 місяців тому +1

      if they've got the time they'll not bother cutting the locks, they'll cut through the rotors. Or even just lift the entire bike into the back of a van and be gone (and it doesn't take a lot to soundproof the cargo space in a Transit). Screamers SHOULD NOT be relied on as standalone security.

    Have a hard to break in garage. Renting a garage and driving there is better than having your bike parked on front of your apartment building and constantly having to worry about kids messing with your bike. thieves and drunk idiots wanting to take a selfie on it and dropping it. You can have a cheap camera in your garage, loud door alarm, floor or wall anchor and my favorite, an alarm that rings your phone whenever the door is being open.

A couple more security measures to try (which you may already know of) are Apple AirTag trackers, and wildlife trail cameras like the ones hunters use to track game. Fantastic point, if a thief really wants your bike and is a pro. He will get it and can get around any of the advice offered here.
    However.. I've only ever had one bike stolen, at my old address, I bought a ancher and dug a 2 ft whole and filled it with concrete, next had the thickest chain available at the time attached. Never got stolen again.
    I've had one attempt on my bike I have at the moment, the security I have at the moment is, a locked communal gate.
    My own personal gate and lock.
    A bike cover, for the reason you explained.
    A massive boss chain and lock, which apparently is virtually impossible to break.
    If the theives get through all that. I also have a tracker.
    I would also suggest leaving your bike in gear, just to kill a few what maybe valuable seconds.
    I bought a brand new motorbike in 2020,so mine is still classed as valuable to thieves.
    The most popular bikes that usually get stolen can be another factor..
    High powered sport bikes.
    Scooters and dirt bikes tend to be the most popular as well.

    I had my bike pinched just after I had the engine rebuilt so I go all out to keep my current bike secure.
    If I may make a suggestion - put your disc lock through the rear sprocket if possible. Thieves can easily cut through a brake disc with a dremel but your sprocket is a much harder metal & more difficult to get at because of the chain.

    most chains can be rendered useless in about 20 seconds. discs locks can be left on and bike ridden away. The seat is the first thing opened on bike as that is where the tools are kept. They sweep electronically to identify bikes with trackers , then locate where the tracker is and remove or mimic the tracker It's very common for thieves to put a tacker on a victims bike to locate where the victim goes etc. You should check tracker apps regularly by your bike and if you get the app telling there is a tracker on your bike and its not yours notify the app

    good video, but don't lay your lock and chain on the floor, I have seen bikes stolen by people hitting the lock on the floor with a sledge hammer, instead place the chain through the wheel and frame of the bike, so the lock is free hanging or tucked into the frame, which makes it difficult to to strike with a sledgehammer

    Get disc locks and chains that can only be destroyed with an angle grinder, it gives you even better odds of your bike not being stolen.
    There are 1.2m 12mm chains that are bolt cropper proof so it’s light enough to carry around, also get the disc locks that have shackles, bolts and double locking pins.

    Had my R1 stolen outside ambulance bay they had stolen a Bt van and stole 4 bikes that day . First time I didn’t lock as there was a trauma case coming same time I rode in by the time I had dealt with it the Nike was gone . Toe rags carry cordless angel grinders put bikes in vans with mattresses to deaden alarms. Drive to out of town and leave van or in car park to see if any one comes be suspicious of any van hanging around bikes as you say saffy make it awkward park in bright places
    I suggest that you carry a chain place it around a lamp post, off the ground around swing arm or to another b8ek. I have biketrac expensive £99 yearly sub but peace of mind. Alarms are connected to batteries so they strip bike look for wires from batteries . I also place apple tags as they don’t need batteries and can be discrete I wouldn’t say where . With disc lock they cut the disc off also remove front wheels steering locks means they will damage your bike to break it. buy a Rottweiler if stolen and you have location ask stolen motorcycle recovery group to help if police are not interested

    Never use a chain and leave it laying on the ground, makes in 10x easier to cut. Always keep chain off the ground. ( No leverage to help them cut chain) .
    When using a disc lock I tend to use them on the rear wheel and on the underside of the swingarm. (Harder to get at it with a cutter.
    As for don't buy second hand from auction sites , well that is never going to happen. People will always sell there unwanted or spare parts on these sites and people will always buy them. All you can do is try to be more aware of adverts and look for suspicious adverts.
    Alarms were also never mentioned and are a cheap audible deterrent just like audible disc locks, and as a bonus can sometimes reduce premiums.

    If its inconvenient for you then it will be more inconvenient for the thief dont just put one lock on it use a few with different brands even if it takes you 10mins getting it all off if someones going to steal your stuff then make them work very hard for it either they will give up half way or somebody's going to notice cutting through locks and chains makes alot of sound specially multiple locks added alarms as well. people tend to be more relaxed in the day thinking nobody will come in the day day times noisy cars driving everywhere people playing music kids playing and shouting dogs barking if anything thats when they would strike all them sounds will block out someone trying to hammer a chain off night times your friend its quiet all your neighbours are home if they are trying to cut through chains and smash the locks off somebodies going to hear it and will be like wtfs going on out there and will be having a look once they know they been spotted they run off.

    Doesn't matter what security you have on your bike at times... three blokes in a transit van would just lift it up and put it in the back .... So if possible chain your bikes together or if you're out solo some sort of anchor point ... Trackers are ok but a Faraday cage may possibly even stop that transmitting.
