- Yep, King Kobbler has been making his rounds. This time he performs science experiments on a 60's National NC-300 receiver. I took the radio in on trade. There was a ebay sticker on top, so I knew it wouldn't be pretty. Full of terrible mods as expected. I contemplated, should I spend the time getting it going. Well, I dove in and had it playing in short time. Unfortunately I could not justify removing the face to install the proper ANL & Tone pots. Lots of time required. So, those functions are abandoned. The receiver performs well, sounds great, alignment appears fine. It would be fine in a classic AM Ham station. Prices on boat anchors are falling due to the new era of Ham gear. I like running the old gear, but I am also a dinosaur. Happy Fathers day!

Glad to hear the memories about the rat in the radio. My two boys loved that episode only because of the rat! They can relate to the humor...
Good one Terry! Very satisfying to return to original.
Chicken & Ham.
Those NC-300's are very nice receivers for their time. I've had three of them (still have two) over the course of my Radio Amateur experience and I've never regretted keeping them running. Cosmetically, they had one of the few designs that looks good in most any shack or sitting on a lamp table in a living room or den.
Great save! Thanks for sharing! I bet Emi is taller than you now!
Howdy. Hey use some 7508 regulators and diode and a cap to feed the oscillator tube regulated 6 volts DC and take out the regulation tube. Put in diodes instead of the rectifier tube and add a B+ dropping resistor. My NC-300 suffers from muddy SSB reception but AM is still really nice. You did a great job at getting that NC-300 back in action. Bravo. You both are quite a team.
A great receiver for its day! The National factory housed a group of small businesses in the late 1980's. I was fortunate to work for NC1V at the "Solar Depot" at that location. Dr. Richie got me into amateur radio as he was a V.E. Fun times! 73
Chicken and Ham!!!
It's best to leave the potentiometer mods and such for the day that ball chain breaks. Don't ask me how I know...
😂❤
Chicken and SPAM!
Love Your Videos Terry!!! -DE KC8WVH
You have a grandpa that realy knows his way around a radio. Once you get to know your way. You can do anything else in the world. Because the knowledge extends to everthing else in many ways it relates to everything. Once you know that. You can see and hear the world. With money go there as well. Use alot of safety like you grandpa.
i missed the fender that was cobblered
Great having Emi back.
I have one of those Terry, and I’m having a hard time getting the drum correctly timed…. So when I change bands it’s off!! Errrrr..
I love all the great characters such as Fink and the Cobbler. I have to agree with EMI, Chicken and Ham. Only because my wife says no beans for me! Even if they are coffee beans.😅
I am a big fan of your videos. You granddaughter is a charming young lady and I am sure you really love her. The only problem is most of us are here for your amp and ham content. Your family stuff, not so much. I it is just my humble option. I could be completely wrong. So, please, don’t take offense.
Chicken and Ham is a clever idea?
Happy Pappy's Day, Terry!
As much as the mods are against restoration, it would be of interest to see if you could reverse engineer what the "Kobbler" did. You might find something worthwhile in other's experiments.
Hi Emi! Keep him on the straight and narrow, we know you can. 😄
I had a nice relationship friendship with my grandmother on my Dad's side. What a lady she had an up stares second level two beadroom dormers where I would spend a night or two. She had me cleaning windows or painting window sils. On her old home. Or recaucing them then payed me two dollars. And said to me. I pay my own way and then we had meat loaf dinner together in the kitchen. I never forgot those times when I was yong. Emy terry enjoy the times. Emy i hope you take an interest in ham radio. You have a realy great. Grandpa wants to leave his Legacy with you. Female operators are rare they will always answer your call on the air. Dwight.
What about ham and biscuits?
Nice save on the National.
Terry I wonder if you could tell me anyplace to find a power transformer for a Hammarlund HQ145.Just picked one up at a ham fest for great price and very clean.Guess it was cheap because the primary on the power transformer is open.
Hammond would make a replacement for that radio. They are pricy, but good quality
@@d-labelectronics Thanks for quick reply Terry.
Great video as always! Where did you source that 4 in 1 cap board?
W8AOR.com He also sells them on ebay. This is the 4in1 wide model
@@d-labelectronics thx!
Kind of like the NB did he try to broad band also?
