Sterling *should* have some premium, since most of it has some craftsmanship involved in making whatever form it is currently in (jewelry, cutlery, candle sticks, etc.). However, it is often only seen as having the "scrap" value, which is often only about 65% if you take it to sell at a shop/smelter, due to the extra cost to refine it to pure. How I see it, if you are buying it, you either buy it because you like and want the current form it is in (probably paying the premium), or you have to buy it at the "right" price if you are only buying it intending to scrap it.
I really like Sterling Silver which was far more common in the 70s/80s/90s than 999. And cool designs. But you’re right - it can often be bought really cheaply - even cheaper than home territory (I’m in the UK) junk or constitutional. Nice video 👍
