I like to do my eyeshadow very big and blown out, often past my eyebrows and to the tempels. Usually in a colorful look where i use yellow or a lighter color around the edges, or even one that matches my skintone to really make a seamless blend. I love the J5533 because its not super dense, and its flat top so you can blend very well on parts of your face thats more flat. Not so great for the crease,. Then I prefer the J5522 and the J142. And love the J146 for detail blending and my small eyes because of its taperedness. The J5529 is also great for detailwork, but acts more like a blendy pencilbrush because of its density and flatter top. Great for really packing on color in the crease.
Thank you for your support and kind words! Life's been crazy lately and I've got a few other videos planned already, but I'll try my best to make an updated favorites video too.
I have sensitive skin also, I don't have access to good quality brushes and I ended up fixing those that were scratchy for me. I take a tweezer and I pluck the thick, coarse and the end of the hairs that didn't had a fine point. I use them all now and they feel really soft.
Awesome video, very informative. I love the shape of GSN10 and J5533. I was thinking to buy J5533, but you said it is pretty scratchy too. I have the GSN10 and love the shape, but like you said it is super scratchy. I want to find something has similar shape but with saikuoho hair. Do you have any recommendation?
TifFani Fox B Hi! I am enjoying the Chikuhodo Z-11, which is a similar shape but I think it's a little larger. It's squirrel instead of goat so it is much softer.
You could try using the Surratt Smoky eye brush to apply setting powder under the eyes. Personally, I like a smaller brush because I like to be precise when applying my under eye setting powder. I don't use the same powder that I use on the rest of my face. The one I use is the Wayne Goss #3. I find it to be the perfect size. I like how the tapered end fits perfectly in the inside corner of my under eye. I found the Wayne Goss #2 brush to be too big. Anyway, I saw the Surratt brush and thought it looked perfect for setting powder under the eyes! It would be a shame not to use it! : )
Just purchased koyudo bp034😭I heard that kolinsky is suitable for placing glitters. I really want to find one brush which can be used to apply Pat Mcgrath special shades to present the maximum glitter...
I find it so odd that you have a j5533 that is so scratchy. I have 4 of them and they are pretty darn soft for goat. it might be because I don't have particularly sensitive skin.
I disagree about Surratt Smokey Eye Moyenne. It changes my mind about gray squirrel eye brushes. I had been a fan of kolinsky/sable or Canadian squirrel eye brushes. Grey squirrel eye brushes were too soft to transfer pigments onto my eyelids. This has the flexibility to its bristles besides softness, thereby able to transfer pigments softly. Because of its pointed tip, I could use the tip on specific area on my eye for small area blending. I am not a makeup artist. But over the years of accumulating different brushes and eyeshadows, realised that certain brushes work better with certain makeup formulations (powder). I have also lightened my touch considerably (advices from various Makeup artists after they observed the way I held my brushes and applications). Not only my eye application improves, I fell in love with my brushes I have disliked, and was glad I owned them. As prickly bristles, no change of technique helps, I need to get rid of those in my stash too.
Hi Lucy! What brushes have you tried? I use the Z-1 and Koyomo Gray Squirrel Powder Brush with the red handle I talk about in my gray squirrel powder brush video. They don't pick up that much product, but that's because the pearls are supposed to be using for finishing. I don't use goat brushes with my pearls because they're fragile and will break/crack from goat hairs.
Thanks for sharing. The j5533 is my favorite to apply transition colors. I like the flatness in comparison to tapered brushes (I.e I dislike the j5522 gasp). I own two and neither are scratchy on me thankfully. They look different from each other though which is a tad annoying.
I also don't like the J5522! I probably forgot to include it in the video, lol. I'm pretty picky with brushes since I have lots of them and sensitive skin. I get you on the looking different from each other part! They're all hand-made so there's variances in how each brush looks and performs (density). My J5533 is denser than my friend's and hers is also kind of scratchy.
Fude Kyun brushes can aggravate the eczema on my lids so I have to be careful. The j5522 (and goss 03 ugh) gave me problems. Luckily the j5533 doesn't. I was getting ready to give up on crease brushes at that point. Which ones are your absolute faves of about the same size/shape? Because...I need ore obviously haha. I'm continuing to gather my future cdjapan order.
jhoheart74 They have popup shops across Japan that's listed on their website in Japanese (Google translate if you can't read Japanese: www.chikuhodo.com/) and you can also check out the Kumano Fude Select Shop in Ginza or Hiroshima.
I am slowly buying more Japanese brushes and appreciate your videos. I have watched some of your videos and do like them. However I wish u show how u applied or use brushes on your face to apply makeup so viewers could understand or really see the application. Rather than seeing you brushing them on your hand. It's ok not to show how you apply on face when you are doing direct comparison of sizes. And may I suggest you start to add nanes or models in your description list. Those names and numbers are almost impossible to remember.
+cassey elsie You can watch how fude are used with products on the links I've posted on the fude subreddit here: redd.it/5kv2gq This is the way I'm making my videos and I'd like to keep it that way. There are plenty of videos on how to apply makeup and I focus on the brushes themselves. I am not a makeup artist so watching makeup artists is a lot more helpful in my opinion. People also have different preferred methods of application based on their skin type. Also, if you click on the description box and "show more", all of the brushes names and numbers are there already.
Fude Kyun. The reason I wished you show way of application with makeup on face is because all other makeup tutorial usually don't discuss about density, shape, length of those brushes, types of hair etc that they used. Some will include names and models of brushes only. But I do not own those brushes so I wouldn't know the details of those brushes they used at all. Definitely it means I wouldn't be able to know if I would love those shapes or other details. And one more thing is those makeup artist on you tube always use the same brushes again and again in their videos (usually not Japanese brushes, most of the time it's a link to Morphe/Sigma/Synthetic s from Real Techniques which they are affiliated to) They will only say "I'll be using this blending brushes from Morphe, or I love to use this shape of brush for XXX because it's tapered. That will be the best information given while they use their brushes. They focus on makeup application. How I wish those makeup gurus will really talk in detail about brushes before they started applying lol. And how much I wish they all use Japanese brushes that I can relate to or planning to buy. Description on Beautylish:CD Japan are general information only. Those description didn't help me in my imagination of Application Results. However if someone actually use brushes that I'm interested to buy on their eyes, it will help a lot for me to judge if the brush I's too big or too small on my eyes because I can compare the shape of my own eyes and hers. I can go in and on with explaining why I had that wish to see brushes addict keep trying on different brushes as they continue to grow their collection. But that will be such a long comment lol. Anyway I appreciate your effort and time in making your videos.
I understand! Many UA-camrs who are using Morphe, Sigma, RT, etc brushes are not certified makeup artists so I think if you watched the videos in the Reddit post I linked above it would be very helpful. The Japanese videos show you how they use the brushes to apply products. I'm also not showing my face for personal reasons but I've taken your suggestion into consideration. It does take many hours to compile my notes, film, and upload and this isn't my full time job so I can't do everyone's requests and/or please everyone, but I do try my hardest when I'm making my videos. Thanks for your support!
Preloved designer bags are common things I hear. But it's my first time hearing people buying Used makeup brushes. I'm very surprised to be honest. But I guess it's good for those who dislike some their brushes. Perhaps next time I can sell brushes that I dislike too. Since I bought so much Japanese brushes at once, so I'm pretty sure there are some that I may not like lol. End of last year, I bought some of the Hakuhodo brushes U mentioned in this video, but I don't really have the chance or enough time to really judge them yet. Looking forward to see if I will like them or dislike them like u. And few days ago I came back from Tokyo with even more brushes haul which I totally haven't try yet. But I'm glad I didn't buy any Passion series. I only bought most from Z series. And I think for other brands, I didn't buy those mentioned above! Phew...Anyway, Thanks for the video.
Yea, people sell used makeup too! I love the Passion powder brush, it's my favorite in the entire line, but everything else is just subpar. The Z series is nice. I like to use it in the winter when my skin is drier. Have fun testing out your brushes!
Haha I can relate! That Sigma E35 shape makes no sense lol! Wayne Goss brushes (aesthetically) remind me of those Sonia Kashuk brushes at Target lol so I was never tempted by them lol. Surratt brushes seem useless like you mentioned so I was never tempted by them either lol. Now the Passion series, THAT I'd be tempted to buy because I love the handles lol! In my own experience my most disliked brush was the MAC 246, I sent it back that's how useless it was lol Anyway great video!
OOO SK brushes! Lol, I never thought about that but I can see the similarities in the handles. The WG ones are nicer but I do prefer the Chikuhodo black lacquered wood more. Yea Surratt brushes aren't for everyone. If you have lots of time to put on your makeup then it's nice and luxurious feeling, but I don't have time hahaha. I know, the Passion series handles are so pretty :) Whoa the Mac 246 is synthetic o_o didn't apply product well? I have yet to find anything that packs on lid color like the Mac 239! The search continues.

Can you please do an update favorites video? I love your reviews. You really know your stuff!

That's a plan! I saw QC people doing that in fude workshops.
Awesome video, very informative. I love the shape of GSN10 and J5533. I was thinking to buy J5533, but you said it is pretty scratchy too. im sorry but did you say you don't like chikuhodo t7? why?
cause i am thinking to buy it
@Fay Lala the beauty geek I said it in the video but it didn't apply or blend well for me. Everyone's different though so maybe it'll work for you!
Just purchased koyudo bp034😭I heard that kolinsky is suitable for placing glitters. I really want to find one brush which can be used to apply Pat Mcgrath special shades to present the maximum glitter...
今天还是这么可爱 Oh no! What do you think of it? It's hard to find brushes to apply glitter shades well. I use my fingers haha.
@@FudeKyun I think It's an OK brush, at least worth the price.😝It's not as scratchy as I thought, but it doesn't apply glitters as well as I expected😂
今天还是这么可爱 At least it's worth the price to you! I got rid of mine a long time ago XD. Try your finger next time!
I find it so odd that you have a j5533 that is so scratchy. I have 4 of them and they are pretty darn soft for goat. it might be because I don't have particularly sensitive skin.
Where do you sell your brushes?
Reddit: Fude Marketplace or Makeup Exchange!

Helloooo! What brush do you use for Guerlain Pearls?? None of my brushes are picking up the product :(
