- Jimmy Page delivers Berklee's 2014 commencement address, sharing his impressions of Berklee, how he learned from records, and the relevance of studying music.
Jimmy Page is a world renowned guitarist, composer, and producer who has twice been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He began his career as a studio session guitarist in London and subsequently became a member of the Yardbirds, in 1966, before founding Led Zeppelin, in 1968. Over the next decade, Led Zeppelin effectively redefined rock music, drawing on a wide range of influences to create a string of legendary albums that have to date sold an estimated 300 million copies. Through his work with Led Zeppelin, Page became recognized as one of the greatest and most versatile guitarists in history. From acoustic ballads to hard rock standards, his use of unconventional scales and tunings, innovative use of electronic effects, and fresh approaches to records and production took the rock genre to a new level. His solo from Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" is still widely considered the greatest guitar solo of all time, four decades since it was recorded.
Jimmy's robe should have dragons on it!
his giggle is the cutest thing on this earth
GEEZZZ The guy is 70 and he gigles up there like a little boy!!!! :D Jimmy is awesome!!!
Aww Jimmy still sweet and shy after all these years.
The lady in the back is like "Wow, I'm only 1 foot away from the world's most praised guitarist"
Such a nice and pleasant guy, really comes across in this recording. So glad that he beat his drug addiction because he really is one of the greatest guitar players and song writers ever.
Jimmy Page has so much class.
Jimmy.... humble and beautiful
I wish he would have spoken a little longer; it's so rare that Jimmy speaks. I could listen to him all day!
Truly an honor to be part of music history. Berklee always delivers and Jimmy Page is the definition of legend.
All praise Dr. James Patrick Page.
He's qualified for a Doctorate in Chemistry as well from California Institute of Technology based on the way he describes "the Led Zeppelin years" :-)
hands down the most brilliant guitar player and imaginative composer of guitar ever! :)
I have never seen Jimi so nervous before...
Omg, I love him even more now ! He's so humble, grateful and even inspired here, and just cute as a button.
I wanna hug him so badly, lols.
Just when I thought I couldn't love Jimmy Page more than I do right now....He's such a sweet, charming, humble and talented man ❤
James is a shy man....and an incredible artist THE GUITARIST ever
Dr. Page is a musician's musician! Although he was self taught, he's knows his craft and then some, so deserving of this honor!
Such a beautiful man/artist/musician! Love Jimmy Page.
Got to appreciate the way Jimmy says things with consideration and a lay person's background full of honesty and of course intergrity. My brother graduated there. .
The greatest guitarist ever in rock and roll. I'd be too nervous to be in the same room with him but he seems so sweet, shy and warm..I love how he compliments the great singer/songwriter Valerie Simpson--what an amazing guy, a true legend.
Jimmy Page = The best guitarist in the world.
Heartfelt and humble. Love how he mixed his self taught history (inherent talent) with stark reality of then needing to learn music. Would love to hear the pre commencement concert they gave to jimmy, especially his music they played for him.
It's hard to believe that this permanently-smiling man is the same guy with "the bad-ass attitude" look on the back photo of Led Zeppelin I LoL
CONGRATS Dr. PAGE. An UNFORGETTABLE PAGE.
From the stage to the robe. :'D What a beautiful, talented man. One of humanity's treasures.
Led Zeppelin got old. It's a nightmare. In the 70's, I thought they would never get old. I miss the band so much. And, Bonzo, damn it! Bonzo was so cool. No one could ever replace the guy. Bonzo was the Jimmy Page of drums, and Jimmy Page was the Bonzo of guitar.
Simply the best. I love Jimmy Page!
That giggle tho....
I graduated from BU but wish Jimmy was our speaker He rocks I swear I would haven't fallen asleep
Hat's off to Berklee.A Maestro is a Maestro.
Had the pleasure to meet and chat with him on and off for about two hours thru my friendship with his lovely girlfriend Scarlett and he is such a sweet kind man so don't believe all the crap they say about him!
Jimmy Page is so amazing!
I graduated from Berklee in 2000. I wish we had Jimmy
In love with his voice
Wow, that's Jimmy Page in a very not-jimmy-page-y outfit.
I dunno, I always figured he'd wind up senior faculty at Hogwarts.
danhawkeye This comment is so key.
"well good morning i had to check my watch there to make sure it was the morning huEH"
Ahrgh! I wish this was our commencement speaker. A true humble rock god. Lucky Berklee students!!!! Rock on and God bless
Wonderful. What a lucky bunch of folks.
No one, at Berklee, knows that there is a teaching technique defined as: creativity technique? It analyzes the logical progression of time, in reference to the different cultures of different genres of music. No melodic frase is alone; it brings with it some brothers or sisters who support it, which, implyng the kind of cultural belonging that distinguishes it,are always ready, in the right openness, to replace, in the logic expression of the musical language of feelings. All this, is pratically demonstrable by myself, in the example of science: observe, hypothesize, prove. This is the point of departure in the teaching of music.
Super nice guy...
Wow a Graduation commencement like no other, what an awesome way to depart Berklee . I'm from Boston I'm so pissed I didnt know he was there walking around Downtown and the Back Bay, Berklee no far from 'Dover' st. (renamed because in the South end in the late 60's to 70,s was so derelict and dangerous ) is where the Tea Party Club was, its the first floor of this old huge Gothic Brownstone and is now a 7-11 store .
He's beyond a professor of music
We Love you Jimmy
Wow. God is so charming.
SO GORGEOUS !!! I love Page!!
The woman behind Jimmy is beautiful.
This is awesome. Imagine Jimmy Page watching you graduate.
Jimmy Page Delivers Berklee Commencement Address 2014 "Master of the String" Awesome your lordship.
The immortal one, James Patrick Page!
He's so well spoken and carries himself so well in public for a rocker. Most of these guys couldn't handle something as high profile as this. Both Jimmy and Robert Plant are very cultured for people who don't have a higher education.
Wow! amaging!! Prof. Jimmy Page.
Amazing! What a legend :)
cool . a great inspiration indeed
I live near Boston I graduated from BU wish we had Page
How could any human being on planet Earth not like this? Oh wait, they're not human. Jimmy is beyond intelligent & cool!
“To be a Rock and not to Roll “ the greatest Rock N Roll Lyric, from the Greatest Rock N Roll Band.

Hey Jimmy! Nice hat!
Who is the attractive faculty member sitting behind him? It was a little distracting.
A very humble man with immense humility in a cutthroat world of music very classy speech
Too cool 😎
❤️
Bless Jimmy's pink tassel. In that beret, with that giggle, he's like a very sexy Frank Spencer. Loved him since I, and he, were young :) Live long Jimmy xx
What do Bart Starr and Jimmy Page Have in Common? Quite a lot.
Just as Starr took the Green Bay Packers to the top of the pro football world and helped establish the NFL as the dominant sports league in America, so Page guided Led Zeppelin to the top of the rock music world and solidified rock music as the most popular art form in American culture. Like Beethoven (a sacrilegious comparison for some of you) whose versatility ranged from the thunderous Fifth Symphony to the ethereal “Fur Elise,” Page’s music was a striking combination of heavy (“led”) and light and soaring (zeppelin)-giving listeners a musical panorama running the gamut of human emotion.
Both the Starr’s Packers and Page’s Led Zeppelin set the standard in their respective entertainment industries. In both cases, their careers tracked the emergence of new technologies that amplified fans’ ability to appreciate their remarkable talents-Starr’s career benefiting from the advent of instant replay and Page’s from major improvements in sound amplification and recording equipment.
Success and lofty achievement are won by hard work and commitment.
I share a birthday with both of them.
Jimmy page skip class and creates the best rock and roll band on earth
♡
Harry Potter type setting
I seriously doubt that he could anywhere near sight read today. I'm willing to bet half the reason he left studio work was the ever increasing need to read faster and more complicated stuff. Of course, none of this really matters because he is the best rock guitar player in history.
John mayer toooo
Mccartney lennon
yew rock, really should work with my sound, board.....ymmij,

Zep was really a 1 hit wonder. SWtH was no doubt a brilliant song ... but the other crap was barely tolerable with Plants singing
