🇬🇧 A city that seems straight out of a storybook and whose life revolves around the bay, recognised as one of the prettiest in the world.
Santander (Cantabria), in the north of Spain, is a combination of green mountain landscapes with white sand beaches, elegant mansions and palatial architecture with avant-garde buildings and the unmistakeable echo of its seafaring past.
Santander was the destination par excellence for royalty at the end of the 19th and early 20th centuries. A stroll through the old quarters, with its majestic buildings, the greatest witness of which is undoubtedly the Magdalena Palace, the jewel in the city’s crown.
Santander fuses this palatial architecture with a fishing tradition. This identity of contrasts is completed with the “new” Santander, the part that has embraced the latest cultural and artistic trends, which is evident in places such as the Botín Centre, designed by the architect and Pritzker Architecture prize winner, Renzo Piano.

Santander (Cantabria), en el norte de España, une paisajes verdes de montaña con la arena blanca de sus playas, edificios señoriales y construcciones palaciegas con arquitectura de vanguardia y un inconfundible eco de su tradición pesquera.
La aristocracia y la realeza de finales del siglo XIX y principios del XX hicieron de Santander el destino vacacional por excelencia. Un paseo por el casco histórico con sus majestuosos edificios cuyo mejor testigo es, sin duda, el Palacio de la Magdalena, la joya de la ciudad.
Santander fusiona esta atmósfera palaciega con una tradición de pescadores. Esta identidad de contrastes se completa con la “nueva” Santander, esa que se ha empapado de las últimas tendencias culturales y artísticas y que encontrarás retratada en el moderno Centro Botín, diseñado por el arquitecto y Premio Pritzker, Renzo Piano.

That was great. Santander is indeed beautiful!
I think the weather for this video was perfect too. Those low clouds just after the rain, with the patches of intense blue sky, really added to the beauty. The clouds hugging the mountains across the bay - wow. I remember looking across Santa Barbara harbor on days just like that and seeing those clouds hugging the tops of the mountains on the islands out there. Spectacular scenery!
The Botin Center was interesting. I tend to be more fond of the older architecture, but it was great walking out and viewing the bay up there. I felt like I was on an ocean liner up there! And viewing the building from a little distance, I could almost imagine it was the hull of a great ship, or one section of it. An homage to the seafaring past maybe?
I had to smile when I saw two beautiful churches in the first two minutes of the video. And then there were more! Coincidentally, my home parish is Sacred Heart (well, not the one in Santander, but here in Boston 😊)
The ride along the bay was so enjoyable. What a fantastic place to live. Those apartment buildings on the bay - wow, what a view they must have! I can see why it was a destination for royalty. And then as you get to Magdalena Palace - the lush green landscape against the crashing ocean waves below. That's a little slice of heaven right there. And what a palace!
I love the combination of seafaring history and natural beauty. If I ever get to Spain, I'd definitely put Santander on my list of places to visit. 👍🙂

I am glad to read your comment as usual. I am also glad that you enjoyed this tour. As you say at the end, Santander deserves to be visited. I had traveled there on a couple of occasions but in summer, this time the atmosphere is absolutely different and I liked it a lot, I will surely repeat on more occasions.
I agree with you about the weather. That morning the sky was very beautiful, a little cloudy in the city and completely cloudy in the mountains, although as I was filming the tour, clouds completely covered the city. I was afraid that it would end up raining at the end but luckily it didn't. The weather in the north of Spain is very unpredictable, at any moment it can start to rain heavily, in fact that happened the next day while I was filming another tour.
Botin Center was opened a few years ago. During this time it has become a cultural and contemporary architectural icon of Santander. The view from the roof top is amazing. As a curiosity, as I told you in your previous message, Banco Santander was founded here and although its headquarters are in Madrid, it has a great link with the city. This center was built by its foundation and almost in front of the building is its historic headquarters, a beautiful building with a large central arch, although unfortunately it was under construction covered by a tarpaulin at that time. 23:27 Here you can see it.
Perhaps it has caught your attention not to see many old buildings or many churches during the tour, this is due to the fact that there was a great fire in Santander that destroyed the entire old town. Only a few buildings such as the cathedral survived. It is curious because I had a slight impression that Boston also suffered a great fire (perhaps I was confusing it with Chicago) so I decided to look for information about it and indeed Boston also suffered a great fire several decades before Santander. So both cities share a tragic event.
As you say, Santander and the entire region have a great seafaring history. It is a pity that I was only there for a few days and did not have time to visit other coastal towns. The combination of nature and tradition is very strong in these towns. They are really beautiful towns. I'll have to leave it for another occasion.
Magdalena Palace is the symbol of Santander, not only because it is a beautiful building but also because of the natural environment where it is located. I spend more time showing it on my next tour . Hope you enjoy it too 😉👍

Respecto a la corrección de color, me alegra que te guste ya que en esta ocasión me resultó más complicado que de costumbre debido a que durante el trayecto hay continuos cambios de luz debido al clima y tuve que cambiar frecuentemente los parámetros de color pero a la vez manteniendo una continuidad cromática en todo el vídeo.

Meestá encantado el tour, no voy desde que era niño y veo que ha cambiado mucho la ciudad. El centro Botín la verdad es que es espectacular, se integra muy bien la arquitectura en la zona que han elegido
Me alegra que te guste. Yo llevaba varios años sin regresar y solamente con todo lo que han hecho en el entorno del Centro Botín la imagen de esa parte de la ciudad ha cambiado completamente. Y como tú dices el edificio se integra muy bien tanto con la ciudad como con el paisaje de la bahía.

El edificio del Banco está en obras . Va a albergar la colección de arte que tiene el banco en Madrid . Lo está diseñando un arquitecto británico: Chipperfield, creo. Es la sede antigua, la que dio su origen al banco . Es una sede social . La real está en Madrid.

Ese arquitecto es muy prestigioso, seguro que hará un gran trabajo con el edificio. Me alegro mucho por la ciudad, se va a convertir en un referente cultural de España. En el minuto 49 se oyen dos disparos. No te asustes, esto no es Texas 😀. Es que debajo de donde paraste, además del edificio del Museo Marítimo del Cantábrico, hay pegado un centro de entrenamiento de tiro olímpico.
