I think sometimes you aren’t in the right frame of mind for a book. I could not get into The Poisonwood Bible. A month later I picked it up and couldn’t put it down. Middle of the Night is on my tar.
I agree - I’m learning to either avoid reviews of books I want to read or take them with a grain of salt. Middle of the Night ended up being one of my favorite Riley Sager books!
Totally agree with your Sager review. Ugh. What a stinker. Also LOVED loved loved Ruth Ware's new book. Looking forward to Game of Lies. Macintosh's first book was very good. And going to give Elegy for the Dead a try. You never disappoint me. 🥰
Completely agree with your assessment of Middle of the Night: I'm really happy that he tries generally something different (even when it doesn't work for me) and am here for anything he does; but it's definitely my least favourite by a substantial margin (just because nothing happens, and it felt like it was being more of a character study, but the characters couldn't carry it, and I really dislike when a view-point character keeps foreshadowing the reveal of something completely heinous they did in the past, and then when it get's revealed it's like: that's not awesome....but moving on...?)
I am in awe that you can read 10 books in a month. I listen to audiobooks and still only get through 2 maybe 3 in one month. Back in the day when I read physical books, I got through one book maybe every 2 months, I'm a slow reader :/
I've been wanting to get into Ruth Ware for a while but didn't know where to start. One Perfect Couple, sounds like a good one to start with her books. I always get at least one good recommendation from you! A quantum love story sounds interesting too
I have yet to read a Riley Sager book. I really want to but the reviews on them vary. Thought about MOTN but I’m not the biggest fan of a slow burn. Are there any of his books you’d recommend?
Trying to make this not spoiler for anyone who’s never read but for heir of fire the new witch character you didn’t like must was genuinely one of my least favorites when she’s introduced. My best friend and I buddy read them all and for books we’d just text each other “ugh another ***** chapter” and then some how toward the end she became my favorite 😂 still blows my mind, can’t wait to see how you feel!
I totally agree with you about Middle of the Night. I did give it a generous 2 stars. I think the storyline was boring for one thing. I will keep trying his books though. I have liked most of his other books.
I found Heir of Fire and Queen of Shadows a bit filler vibes but worth pushing through I think. I really enjoyed the tandem read afterwards. Just about to start Kingdom of Ash!
I wish Middle of the Night was an actual grief horror story instead of....what we got. I liked it more than you did but i agree it was very mid. the longer i think on it the less i loved it lol Also, i would love if you did a 'grief horror' recommendations list if you havent already, its a genre i'm realizing i'm loving but dont know enough books! ♥
I haven't yet broken up with riley sager like I have with Ruth Ware, lol. But i absolutely hated Home Before Dark, and The Only One Left had too many nonsensical plot twists and was meh. So I'm nervouse now...
I feel like people are saving it for Summerween and/or got it through BOTM and haven’t gotten their box yet maybe? I imagine we’ll start seeing more reviews very soon!
I liked middle of the night Until the ending, the ending felt flat and so underwhelming, it became meh and I absolutely love "home before dark" , which had similar spooky vibes .
I really liked the last 20% of Middle of the Night; definitely a slow burn! 🏕️ Manon is my favorite character 😆 Who is yours?! I love hearing different opinions about TOG! 🐉
I love Celaena when she’s in badass assassin mode (really liked The Assassin’s Blade) and I liked Nehemia and how she pushed Celaena to care about more than herself lmao
I actually really liked Middle of the Night. It’s interesting how everyone can have such different opinions!
I did too lol
samee! i loved it
I just finished reading it and I loved it too and found it hard to put down.

Middle of the Night ended up being one of my favorite Riley Sager books!
Hey Thanks Ashley for reccomending some great books will definitely add them to my tbr😊
I might try to read One Perfect Couple during Summerween and I’m hoping I end up loving it as much as you did 😍👏
Yay I hope so too!!!
It’s so exciting that you had so many 5 stars 🎉🎉
Elegy for the Undead has been on my list for a couple years. Thanks for the reminder to pick it up sooner!
A one star for the new Riley Sager??? Oh my gosh hahaha nooo I’m terrified now 🫣😭
🙃🙃🙃
Really great reviews Ashley. 🥰

That’s still a lot more than many people read! Some people don’t even read 2-3 books in a whole year haha
I've been wanting to get into Ruth Ware for a while but didn't know where to start. One Perfect Couple, sounds like a good one to start with her books. I always get at least one good recommendation from you! A quantum love story sounds interesting too
Oh dear! I just ordered Middle of the Night from BOTM!!
Another great reality tv trope book is Heather Gudenkauf's Everyone is Watching.
Hope you have a better experience with it!
@@ashleyslittlelibrary Thanks! I've heard mixed reviews. I've only read 2 of his other books and loved them.
Welp, I'm glad I picked the new Ruth Ware over the new Riley Sager for my Book of the Month subscription this month!
After I was done with middle of the night, it made me think of “scary movies” it is pretty hilarious if you think of it as a parody
Loved One Perfect Couple too!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE survival and apocalyptic stories. What are your favorites? That would be an awesome video!
Couldn't agree more about MOTN. I was SO disappointed. Its was certainly no Lock Every Door!
I have yet to read a Riley Sager book. I really want to but the reviews on them vary. Thought about MOTN but I’m not the biggest fan of a slow burn. Are there any of his books you’d recommend?
Lock Every Door & Home Before Dark are my favorites of his!

Hahah okay that is encouraging to hear!

I’ve only read one Riley Sager - survive the night. Which was a 1 star for me 😅 I can’t bring myself to read more with how horrible that one was.
I still have to read heir of fire 😵💫
I found Heir of Fire and Queen of Shadows a bit filler vibes but worth pushing through I think. I really enjoyed the tandem read afterwards. Just about to start Kingdom of Ash!

Oooh definitely can do that I’ve read tons haha
Con tanto conocimiento en los libros ¿por que no hay un mundo mejor?
Gave Middle of the Night 2⭐️ I really wish Riley Sager explored that other plot element, that would've made it more interesting.
Right?!
I haven't yet broken up with riley sager like I have with Ruth Ware, lol. But i absolutely hated Home Before Dark, and The Only One Left had too many nonsensical plot twists and was meh. So I'm nervouse now...
i was just wondering why i haven't heard some reviews for middle of the night yet! sucks you had a bad time reading it.
I feel like people are saving it for Summerween and/or got it through BOTM and haven’t gotten their box yet maybe? I imagine we’ll start seeing more reviews very soon!

Agreed!
I agree with throne of glass. Book 2 bored me so bad i lost interest. Why is she so popular???
Agreed, I did not like Middle of the Night. 😩
One Perfect Couple was so boring for me . I gave it 2 stars 😬
your voice
Girl, BREAK UP WITH RILEY SAGER
I CANT OKAY 😭
