Dude, I never realized it until watching this video. I’m totally doing the same thing I did all summer and barely catching a fish. I’ll drop down in line size and slooooooooow it down. Thanks for the tips and keep up the amazing work. You two do more than fish for our community so thanks for all you Do!
I'm SOOO glad I came across this video. Winter is here in Michigan and I have been following your word like the gospel but I was making one MAJOR mistake that I completely overlooked.... I was still using braided line and dead sticking my baits in the deepest waters. Thank you so much!!
You guys saved my winter about a month ago when you briefly mentioned tubes. I live in Florida and its like these fish have never seen a tube. Thanks for more info about this rough time though.
These video's have made a huge difference the past few weeks here in washington state. For me last winter i struggled this winter my fish count for december was 5 largemouth and last weekend lost 3 smallmouth and boated 4 all in 43 degree temps. Thanks for all the tips
Thanks for the "Foe-Juan-Juan" ,Matt. I could tell in your voice how the struggle is REAL, for more than just me ?!? Lol! Very good informative & reassuring video brother. You & Tim keep the good work up!
Nail on the head about slow dragging with tubes, Its been one of my favorite was for winter bites, was out on the 1st fishing a Washington lake, water temp 44, fishing 45-55 ft. deep at .3-.5 mph 3/8 teardrop leadhead, was out for 8 hrs had 11 bites, 4 hook--ups and 3 in the boat, biggest was 2 1/2 lbs. looking to try the ned rig tomorrow in the same areas. You guys are awesome!! Keep it up!!
Another great video and information ! I fish the other day and the water temp was between 38 and 44° and I’m pretty sure I was fishing way too fast ! And like you said it’s hard to slow down.
So right!!:) I’ve taken what you said and applied it to the lighter swim jig with a keitech. Trimming the skirt strategically depending on the design to slim down the design gives it a less erratic action coming through cover. I’m stuck on the bank which is why I use the jigs with a weed guard. BUT!! Like you said I’m dragging through cover and when I’ve gotten stuck I lower the rod tip and lightly pull through.. Sometimes bam there’s that bite. Have caught more fish this winter because of you guys, appreciate all the tips!!:)
You guys have helped me big time. I have never fished winter time until this year, And your methods and bait selections. Has help me catch a few very cold water bass here in OHIO!! THANKS!!!!
Thanks dude this is definitely helpful I always know I will learn something on this channel I know that when there is a video posted im going to learn something...taking notes! lol...thanks guys!!! awesome!!
Awesome content as always. Something else we drag on Erie is a dropshot. It's most effective when your drift is 1.5km/h or less. Dragging the dropshot is something I've taken as far south as Kentucky Lake and have produced with it while other guys who are just shaking their dropshots are getting squat.
A tip to many: I use ALL Keitech's, for single units, for belly weighted swimbait hooks, swimbait jigheads (exposed), swimjigs, etc. I use KEITECH exclusively for 3.3" and above, but the 2.8" Keitech FATs are as durable as a Senko after being hit by a lawnmower. The Strike King version doesn't have the action but will at least survive bream breathing on them. The MC Swimbaits MC Shad in 2.5" is tougher too, but for all Keitech's offer, I would just suggest the 3.3", unless you don't mind spending the extra baits because the 2.8's get bit like no other, they just are not durable.
my go to winter setup is a c rig . 5/16 tungston , super light wire 3/0 and a gp chigger craw. any hard terrain that is warmed by the sun. can't go wrong.
i like to use longer tubes with a soft plastic ear plug inserted to help it float, this also also gives the Tube enough Mass for Texas Rigging and for Carolina Rigs it Floats..., and with a little scent added i am having phenomenal luck at lake mead
my minimum line lb test for finesse fishing in winter here on santee is 10 lb our lake is muddy 95% percent of be time...but around early december it didnt rain for a month or two prior and the lake actually got really cleae for a lil while and we were catching alot more fish with clearer water on santee cooper!!! but if i fish church branch lake its crystal clear like clear lake then i go to 8... youre so right about line size though the lighter line also gives your bait a more natural presentation as well. just my two cents hahaha !!!! keep em coming guys were grinding it out everday!!!! just waiting to get a line wet a s a p !!!
I have been struggling this year. Hadn't caught a fish since late Oct. , until this past Friday. I was dragging a Z-man TRD on a Carolina rig with a Owner size 1 offset. He hit it hard, was so sweet to finally land my first bass of 2018. I had never thought about dragging those small Keitech's think I'll try that next.
Heading out today after work. Gonna throw the ned rig and some drop shot. Might try a jig or a shaky head......I’ll let you know how things go!!! Thanks guys!!! 👍🏻🤘🏻🐟👊🏻🎣
Thanks for the good advise. I'm about to go crazy but, I'm not giving up! Not a chance. I love fishing with plastic worms. Had a small bite yesterday. And I'm going back today ‼️‼️💯💯❤️❤️
I'm watching this in the fall because my little lake seems to go through seasonal patterns much earlier than larger lake's. I'm can switch lakes an hit fish on current seasonal patterns but with cold front's coming through I absolutely must adapt to the next season tactics to keep catching. My little lake also spawns much much earlier than other's as well. I almost missed spawn in March out there this last "spring" this year I'll be focusing on spawn tactics in February!!!
What's up Tim and Matt. Just wanted to thank you guys for your videos. Today me and my buddy ended a 9 trip losing streak by applying the techniques in your videos. Not gonna lie was about to throw in the towel and give up but so glad we didn't. Gained a lot of confidence in winter fishing and cold water today. Keep up the great content guys. Thanks again.
I've got videos crushing 5lb bass on a dead stick after 2 to 3 minutes. Its an awesome technique we've been doing for years. True dead stick is like bait fishing. Let it sit for 30 seconds or more. Then drag it. Or pop it and let it sit another 30 seconds.
The ned rig is awesome! was out for 3 hrs today, 5 bites, 3 hook ups, a 2 lb., a 3lb 6oz. and a 4lb. 7oz. again ty for another confidence bait in the arsenal. water temp 46*
I was in a month slump. No fish at all all December. I tried going slow but just couldn't stick any. On the bright side I did catch some nice 2 pounders last weekend on a chatterbait.
Wish I had watched this before I went out today. My last few times out I caught nothing. Late late fall last year and today. Ever since the water temps hit 45 and below I haven't seen a bite. Think I need to try this till the pre spawn starts
I have learned so much from you guys over the last year! Looking forward to the series on the solix with much anticipation!! Do y’all run side imaging from a trolling motor mounted transducer?
A tube rocks for winter but a Jigging spoon for me is money ..I fish for spots in Alabama . Pitch a little 3 inch 3/8 or 1/2 ounce spoon up against a rock bluff and pop it up a foot of bottom and let it flutter down from rock shelf to rock shelf and you WILL eventually get bit ......Spots can’t stand it and you will catch other species too like big drum .
Keepinitreel’s last video has an excellent example of deadsticking it with a very large swimbait. He was about to be skunked and after letting it sit there dead in the water for almost two minutes, he hooked a nice 5lb bass.
If we are worried about the fish seeing thicker line shouldn’t we be worried about them seeing an exposed hook? Another excellent video by they way you guys are rad
You wanna talk about struggling, come up here to western Washington. It's a struggle when the weather is nice! I think the majority of bass in this region are caught by accident while fishing for trout. This is an official challenge! Super official.
Hey Matt & Tim👋🏽! Sending love from Whitefish, Montana. I’m chomping at the bit for the ice to melt, have you guys ever fished for Bass through the ice?
I've been using powerbait max scent products. The little shad profile ones on a drop shot have been the only thing that works. Even caught a few planted trout with them. In the winter, a fish is a fish to me. going to buy some scent products. I've never been a believer that scent works but this December was so bad. Nothing but high pressure, cold sunny days made the fishing terrible. Switching to a scented product really made a difference for me. Went from consistently getting skunked to having an above average day for any time of the year. Thanks again for your videos. This channel has really improved my fishing. Not that you guys have brought up scent much, but your approach to fishing and really breaking it down in detail what the fish are doing and what your thought process is really helps me problem solve and switch tactics instead of stabbing in the dark.
This was extremely well done. You have a new fa. Most of our northern Colorado water is capped in ice right now but a couple big deep lakes around here have frustrated the devil out of me. I definitely need to go s l o w e r.
What’s the average time your bait is in the water for this technique and is there a certain area you prefer to drag on and also what would you prefer in dead grass
typically dragging for 2-5 minutes, depends on how much debris is on the bottom. You need to check that the bait is clear periodically. For dead grass a Carolina rig is a better bet to drag.
I just wish I had an ice-breaker available so I could "not catch" fish though dragging and dead-sticking are methods I often use in cold water conditions (when ice free that is)
I've tried using my spinning rods more since their gear ratios are slower. Or I pick up the phone and send out some texts while my bait soaks. OR I resort to using nightcrawlers.
Winter definitely seperates the weekend angler from the passionate bass angler.
I like this channel because it focuses more on teaching then just going out and fishing.
Superior Mango ...and it's to of the best ever teaching it.
Superior Mango they are very focused on selling gear too.
Ajdizzle4rizzle there not sponsored by anyone soooo......
agreed,

Best content and most informative fishing videos on UA-cam you guys are awesome keep it up
Nick Warriner - I know what you mean. No "re-runs". Just more in depth.
I agree
Great advice, I also found that slowing down my retrieves on cranks, chatters, and spinning lures will result in many more bites in the cold months.
Thank you so much for the tips and trick!! One of a kind, one in a million. #1 best UA-cam channel ever!!!
I did exactly what you said today and caught my pb, thanks guys i appreciate it
That's awesome! Congratulations Brandon!
I'm SOOO glad I came across this video. Winter is here in Michigan and I have been following your word like the gospel but I was making one MAJOR mistake that I completely overlooked.... I was still using braided line and dead sticking my baits in the deepest waters. Thank you so much!!
You're 100% right! This is the best way, especially when the day is cold and clear.
You guys saved my winter about a month ago when you briefly mentioned tubes. I live in Florida and its like these fish have never seen a tube. Thanks for more info about this rough time though.

Bryan Tretiak you been on Washington the last few weeks? It’s been fishing pretty good. Sammamish will start to come around too
Daniel Thomas been on sammamish

I watch lots of fishing channels and yours is my favorite. Great advice. Thanks a bunch!
Thanks for the tips as always! Going to give it a shot today and tomorrow. Haven’t had a single bite lately so maybe this will change that!
Another great video and information ! I fish the other day and the water temp was between 38 and 44° and I’m pretty sure I was fishing way too fast ! And like you said it’s hard to slow down.
I agree with your techniques they are extremely painful mentally lol. The dead sticking and slow dragging it’s hard to have patience with.

Thanks dude this is definitely helpful I always know I will learn something on this channel I know that when there is a video posted im going to learn something...taking notes! lol...thanks guys!!! awesome!!
Great stuff as always. You guys should do a video about water temperature and how it works compared to the temp outside.
Best part of waking up, hiding tactical bassin videos in my cubicle lol
Thx TacticalBassin! Appreciate your tips and honest dialogue. Keep up the great work!
Dead sticking has worked on east Texas lakes for over twenty years or more. It definitely works.
1.2k likes and 6 dislikes goes to show you how good this channel is. These guys really know their shit 👊

great tips mat, I do need to downsize and slow WAY down. I got skunked the last trip out.
Thank goodness for this video I haven't caught a bass in 3 months.
...and I thought I was the only one who had a tough day! Great vid!
Giving out to many tips. Haha.
I like using grubs on the dart head too for dragging. Great video as usual.
Stay safe in those weathers
Thanks for the good advise. I'm about to go crazy but, I'm not giving up! Not a chance. I love fishing with plastic worms. Had a small bite yesterday. And I'm going back today ‼️‼️💯💯❤️❤️

Can we get a smallmouth tips video? Best channel on UA-cam!
Wait...What? A whole Video where Matt Allen only has a spinning rod in his hand?? 8)..Thanks again gents...best Bass channel on UA-cam...PERIOD.
The bass whispers!!!!
I was in a month slump. No fish at all all December. I tried going slow but just couldn't stick any. On the bright side I did catch some nice 2 pounders last weekend on a chatterbait.
I liked this video! I've been subscribed! Keep the great videos coming! And good luck next time out on the water guy's!👊💥
Great video Matt, good tips. Winter can really be tough. Especially on the rivers where I live.
Thanks!
The best one for me has been a wacky rig that I move every 20 seconds with a subtle twitch
Great video Matt. Good stuff

Hey guys, amazing work, thanks from Portugal, big fan. Any tips for ultra clear reservoir fishing?! thanks
Your videos are great @TacticalBassin keep it up.
Great information it's really helpful! Keep up the great work!
Great video Matt

My bass fishing season begins on the 3rd Sat. in June and ends Dec. 15
Thanks for the video very very helpful the best channel out there see ya on the next one👍🏼
Great video as always!!!!
Awsome video man!!! Learn alot
If we are worried about the fish seeing thicker line shouldn’t we be worried about them seeing an exposed hook? Another excellent video by they way you guys are rad
I’ve also had good success later in the day with a heavy spinner bait ticking the bottom
Needed to hear that, thx!
Great video brotha 👌🎣!! Have you tried a VMC Black marabou jig as well ? That's my favorite, for lake Erie smallies, when the water is cold.
Thanks
Great info guys...thx
Thanks for the video.
Hey guys, love the video! Do you have any suggestions on water thermometers for bank fisherman?
Jerkbait bite died for me sadly. I did get some bites slow dragging a senko like you say. Boring as hell but keeps the skunk out of the boat
Love the vids that is for the tips but my lakes are frozen
You wanna talk about struggling, come up here to western Washington. It's a struggle when the weather is nice! I think the majority of bass in this region are caught by accident while fishing for trout. This is an official challenge! Super official.
Tell me about it
Great video as always
Can you use the techniques you're giving for shore/bank fishing at ponds and small man-made lakes?
Hey Matt & Tim👋🏽! Sending love from Whitefish, Montana. I’m chomping at the bit for the ice to melt, have you guys ever fished for Bass through the ice?
Left out the drop shot!!! That's a key winter lure
As usual, great content...thanks

Hey guys, love what you do. Thanks for all the videos and advice. What size Revenge Darter Hedz matches up well with a Keitech 2.8? Thanks
What about a single tail grub on a darter head?
you guys ever fished in mexico?? You probably have but Im mostly asking how good it was for you guys if you have went.
You guys should try ice fishing! That’d make for a great video
Can a jig be added to the list? I know with weedgaurd it may be harder to get that hook with everything slowed down

Can I use these techniques in 30 degree and below water
