My main complaint with the newest seasons is that they rely way too heavily on over the top visual humor. There's no denying that there are talented animators in the crew, but it becomes a problem when every 2 seconds something happens on screen that really serves no other purpose than to show off the animators skills. This is true even with pretty much all of the scenes that you showed off during this video. It's extremely jarring and really takes me out of the experience. They are almost like the visual version of a laugh track. SpongeBob for me has always been an animated sitcom at its core, and needs to focus more on situational comedy such as actual jokes, funny exchanges and interesting situations rather than pointless incessant visual gags. Even the artstyle has suffered with every character looking like shrunken, squishier versions of themselves. This show has basically become a spinoff of itself.
To tell you the truth... I don't really care about Spongebob anymore, outside of the first season. I mean, Seasons 2-4 as well as the later seasons starting with 9 were good. But I was always into that cel animated stuff from the show. Don't get me wrong. The current cartoony Ren and Stimpy/Bob Clampett-esque style of SpongeBob did predict alot of cartoons to bring back that style later (like The Cuphead Show, Taffy and Looney Tunes Cartoons), but it didn't have that same feel as the first season and the C.H. Greenblatt episodes (yes, I love his episodes). But seriously, I'm not really into SpongeBob like I used to anymore. I know he's a lovable character, but he ain't no Bugs Bunny or Pink Panther. He's in the same standards as like The Simpsons to me.
I would add Goodbye Krabby Patty on the list I really liked how SpongeBob came up with the idea for frozen Krabby Patties and Patrick started doing commercials for the frozen foods but what I like is that instead of ditching SpongeBob like in the older modern season they actually both miss each other since Patrick became famous for the commercials and SpongeBob worked at the Krusty Krab Museum
Well, you see, the term “garbage” really depends on who you’re talking to. Truth be told, I’ve met some fans who thought Spongebob between 2008-2012 were the best years while (I believe) a larger consensus among the fandom say those years were the show’s lowest period of quality.
Thank you SO MUCH for making this video. You touched on some of the best modern episodes in the series, and really did it justice, talking about how creative and fun the newest seasons were. Even if its not as good as the golden era of 1999-2004, modern Spongebob is certainly amazing in its own way
Thank you so much I really dont care that they use more slapstick as they also seem to be focusing on more sponge and squid episodes if anything my complaint is that its rarely on as nick keeps spamming us with loud house and its useless souless excuse for a franchize
People have been complaining and just being winning crybabies about how SpongeBob is like for a decade now,, like seriously if you still rant about modern SpongeBob even though you made 1000 videos about the same thing like that..... I agree. No offense to anybody but I think the same could maybe be sort of said about how some people may treat some modern Pixar movies. I'm only saying that because I feel like some people think that a lot of recent Pixar movies aren't good but I personally think most of them are fine.
The animation is definitely a strong point. It reminds me of the wacky, fluidly animated cartoons of the 1930s-40s, which is very fitting for the show, in my opinion.
It's okay but one of the things about SpongeBob S1-3 (even some of 4) is that is extremely cozy, everytime I watch it I forget about real life and feel like I'm at a comfortable second home, now it is isn't like that... It's crazy and hyper, it's too much, defeats a bit of the appeal of SpongeBob imo
That's because the post season 10 Spongebob episodes are heavily influenced by Nickelodean's 90s cartoon Ren and Stimpy (the Godfather of Nickelodean cartoons). Ren and Stimpy was a tribute towards the 40s and 50s of cartoons. Although I love Ren and Stimpy, this really doesn't fit into Sponebob's world. I miss the dirty Season 1 animation. It was so full of life because it was traditional drawn rather than today. Those 90s and early 2000s Millenial cartoon animations have something about them that the 2010s Gen Z lack: which is soul. It feels so robotic and for some reason Family Guyish.
Thank you…I’m not the only one who likes Modern Spongebob. We should be glad there’s no more torture Squidward episodes or Patrick being an unlikeable torture machine.

It’s difficult finding someone who thinks of SpongeBob, or any other franchise for that matter, the same way I do. But you, my man, are one of them, and I am very grateful.
I think we can divide SpongeBob into 3 eras, the first or golden era, the middle one that we don’t talk about, and the newest one now improving and becoming better, but the first will always be the best
@@RedLaundryBasket The first three seasons of Spongebob before the 2004 movie are classified as the Golden Age. The fourth season is called the Silver age. Seasons 7-9a are seen as the Dark Age. After the 2015 movie, seasons 9b all the way to 2018 were seen as kind of a revival because Hillenberg had returned. While I do think a lot of the more modern episodes rely too much on wacky plots and insane visual humor where every character can squish and stretch however they want, I like it a lot better than some of the middle-seasons where the plots are really boring and the characters barely emote or squash and stretch at all.
I LOVED spongebob's birthday blow out. It was a gem in the newer era of spongebob and it was refreshing to see the cast live action segments along with feral friends seeing frenchy the narrator reminded me the spongebob movie with david hasselhoff
Pull Out A Barrel is a great episode with Mr. Means talking about this old navy days. It has great humor and I love seeing more for Mr. Krabs's navy life.
Everytime I go on the SpongeBob Instagram page and see a clip from the newer episodes there's always people criticizing the new animation style or the exaggerated faces. I'm getting tired of seeing comments like that.
Knock Knock Who's There? for me, felt like something out of pre movie era. The jokes are on point, the story was quite simple, and it overall was a very entertaining episode. You should watch it if you have time.
Considering the state of Nick, SpongeBob has really been the channels saving grace for the past half decade or so. I’m glad it’s better than seasons 6-9, but nothing comes close to seasons 1-4.
I love the golden age from SpongeBob but I really like the modern one too, the animation is great and seeing the exploration in the different plots is something fresh to the show, for that change capacity SpongeBob stills in the air
I think the modern episodes are honestly good. The animation is awesome, even if sometimes it’s a bit in your face and a lot of episodes are pretty creative and fun too
I see people diss the animation a lot, but in my opinion, it helped give the show a breath of fresh air, and I often find myself laughing at how exaggerated some things are
I'm one of the few ppl who watched all of spongebob and like modern spongebob more than the "golden era" (fight me). Also I like sponge out of water more than the first movie.
Ngl, I like the sponge out of water and sponge on the run movies more than the first movie, I really liked the first movie but it's my least fav oout of the three, sponge out of water is just GREAT, and sponge on the run nearly made me cry
I disagree but I love those two opinions because modern SpongeBob is very underrated. It's good and better than seasons 4-9A imo, yes, season 4 is worse than any modern season, that's a very unpopular opinion too. Seasons 1-3 are the best imo but season 12 isn't too far from season 1.
The thing I like about modern Spongebob is the smooth animation, they didn't change it to that cheap puppet flash animation like what happen to season 9 or 10 of FairlyOddParents.
Honestly, I really like the modern SpongeBob episodes. Of course, it will never return to its original golden state, but people really need to give some of these newer episodes a chance instead of dismissing them as garbage.
Finding people who give modern SpongeBob a chance is extremely rare, because it's like almost every SpongeBob video has to be bashing the modern seasons, or, at least, the comment section is mostly filled with using the Classic episode for bashing Modern ones to the point that it seems obligatory.
This looks like some sequel to that rant video you made 6 years ago feeling like as if you’re trying to give a strong strict lesson on why people should never ignore SpongeBob ever again no matter if it was supposed to end 18 years ago “I REGRET EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!” - Vailskibum94 January 1, 2018
I'm glad to hear it's still got some genuine gems both in keeping with the good old days and trying new things! I haven't kept up with the show in years, I know I saw through season 6 but I'm not sure where exactly I dropped off. Been meaning to go back for years but among other things the mixed reports of quality has made me hesitate
personally, I love both classic and modern SpongeBob classic episodes, like say, seasons 1-4 are good in creative and brilliant ways modern episodes, they are good in a silly comical way and I like that, followed by its own sort of creativity
There are definitely some underrated recent episodes. One of my personal favorites is the one where Mr. Krabs becomes so obsessed with kidnapping Plankton that he becomes paranoid of everyone and everything around him.
I feel like people who think the newer seasons of SpongeBob are “garbage” are over-analyzing, and they are seeing it through a nostalgic lens. Of course it won’t be the same. They aren’t catering to the same audience they were 15-20 years ago.
This take will never not be invalid. I'm really feeling like making a comparison video. The writing, animation, and character developments of modern spongebob are generally horrible in comparison. It's not made to stimulate the mind with entertainment. It's made to market to people who have to wipe drool off their mouth. Like almost every form of media. It's a controlled decline by big corporation.
Who doesn't like modern SpongeBob I love it. Modern SpongeBob is hilarious plus the animation is so good now and expressive honestly its my favorite Era.
Any modern SpongeBob episode that has the House of Horror 10.05 track playing at some point is a good episode in my book. I love that track. Used to scare me when I was younger for whatever reason. Now as an adult I could listen to that track over and over and it’ll never get old.
Well some people are just too sensitive when it comes to SpongeBob, they say it's over and not great anymore, sure the older season are the golden era but the newest seasons are also enjoyable to watch
Yes, I agree with what Vail said in this video. I admit that I have a sort of unconditional love for a lot of shows, video games, and movies (animated or live-action) and that may mean that I try to like almost every piece of media that I see or play but either way even if I didn't have that I would still try to like some of them because I try not to be the hating type of person. I hope somebody here understands. Anyways, thank you Vail for acknowledging that they are actually some good modern SpongeBob episodes. ❤
You want my advice: If there's an episode of Spongebob you don't like. Stop watching it, and watch another episode. Exactly what I've been doing for the many years I've watched Spongebob. Spongebob may have gone downhill throughout some of it's seasons(mostly 6-9), but there are still some hidden gems within those seasons.
More modern episode i wish more people talk about: Sanitation insanity Mustard o mine Doodle dimensión Krusty kantering The incredible shrinking sponge Pat the horse
There was a great modern spongebob episode where spongebob and patrick go to bikini bottom at midnight and find their jobs replaced by fish from the twilight zone. I think its called night patties I dunno, but its great! You should give it a watch
Two other episodes I recommend watching are Man Ray Returns and Potato Puff. The former is similar to MermaidPants, but they have a real nemisis and the ladder is a pretty recent episode and has a lot of fun gags and jokes Both worth a watch!
2:09 did you know that there was a clip in the random land episode where squidward see red mist squidward but that was deleted (well duh it's a creepy pasta) and was replaced with something else
Glad that someone understands. The new seasons may be good but old seasons were way better than today's seasons, rip Stephen Hillenburg for the charm of humor.
I agree Vilaskibum and I absolutely love Bulliten Board, Mimic Madness, Ferral Friends and of course Spongebob’s Big Birthday Blowout, now that was not only a great episode of Spongebob but a great SP special and love latter to this amazing iconic legendary Cartoon character Spongebob Squarepants
This is what I've been trying to tell ppl. The modern episodes have some good stories. If only they could tone down the gross out humour and not make spongebob and patrick braindead
My Friend said around when he was born he started watching Spongebob Squarepants and hasn't stopped ever since! His sister says that it is even true so, he is a very great Spongebob fan just like you are!
I've always been a fan of SpongeBob, and I really don't see the difference between modern and old day SpongeBob. It's exactly the same, just with brighter animation. It's just as good.
I’m so glad you made this. I remember I was watching cable for once in forever and I saw the Birthday Bash episode. It was so cool and creative, it convinced me that there was hope for modern spongebob (since that’s the only episode i’ve seen from any of the seasons in 2015 to now)
Some episodes are good, but not all are worth the chuckles in the end from the latest seasons. It has been hard since the passing of the late Steven Hillenburg, but still want to see more. Could be the last final season with Hillenburg's tragic death with season 13.
Bulletin board was funny and creative I loved it I thought it was funny, I wasn’t too found about the random land episode; however it did look pretty good artistically, mimic madness was really fun to watch, my leg was so awesome to see Fred. I’ve never seen dream hoppers but it looks good. Never seen life insurance. Big birthday blow out was funny to watch and I loved the irl cast

I don't care if it's new or a classic SpongeBob has a special place in my heart ❤️
I think the modern episodes are honestly good. The animation is awesome, even if sometimes it’s a bit in your face and a lot of episodes are pretty creative and fun too
Modern era is still the worst for SBSP
@@JurjevichDragonBoy You're gonna need some therapy, my dude.
@@mforrest9737 Sorry but I don't require any sort of therapy my dear friend I know exactly what I am doing, thinking and saying thanks.
@@JurjevichDragonBoy Can't you be delightful for once. I have feelings too you know.
I see people diss the animation a lot, but in my opinion, it helped give the show a breath of fresh air, and I often find myself laughing at how exaggerated some things are
Definitely wish all these mentioned were more of what the average season had in it, I just wish they were more consistent
Randomland also ORIGINALLY had a reference to Red Mist (a Spongebob creepypasta), but they removed it after the first airing of the episode.
I'm one of the few ppl who watched all of spongebob and like modern spongebob more than the "golden era" (fight me).
Also I like sponge out of water more than the first movie.
As a person who really Love the first movie I can agree with your opinion of you like the second movie then that great
Ngl, I like the sponge out of water and sponge on the run movies more than the first movie, I really liked the first movie but it's my least fav oout of the three, sponge out of water is just GREAT, and sponge on the run nearly made me cry
@@roseliand936 Same honestly. As a huge pet lover, seeing tiny Spongebob meet Gary and then losing him almost made me cry
I liked all the movies
I disagree but I love those two opinions because modern SpongeBob is very underrated. It's good and better than seasons 4-9A imo, yes, season 4 is worse than any modern season, that's a very unpopular opinion too.
Seasons 1-3 are the best imo but season 12 isn't too far from season 1.
The show will always be good.
Yeah
Stop the cap
The thing I like about modern Spongebob is the smooth animation, they didn't change it to that cheap puppet flash animation like what happen to season 9 or 10 of FairlyOddParents.
No matter what age I am I will always watch SpongeBob till the very end of his existence
Honestly, I really like the modern SpongeBob episodes. Of course, it will never return to its original golden state, but people really need to give some of these newer episodes a chance instead of dismissing them as garbage.
If some of the chips in a bag arnt poisonous would you still eat the bag of chips.
1:30 We can never forget that RandomLand is the episode that had a deleted scene with Red Mist Squidward
Sorry I meant 1:38
The modern spongebob animations has so much stuff happening
i love it
Finding people who give modern SpongeBob a chance is extremely rare, because it's like almost every SpongeBob video has to be bashing the modern seasons, or, at least, the comment section is mostly filled with using the Classic episode for bashing Modern ones to the point that it seems obligatory.
I would say most people like modern episodes, but modern era haters talk much more about it...
This looks like some sequel to that rant video you made 6 years ago feeling like as if you’re trying to give a strong strict lesson on why people should never ignore SpongeBob ever again no matter if it was supposed to end 18 years ago
“I REGRET EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!” - Vailskibum94 January 1, 2018
the same people who hate modern SpongeBob are the ones that watch seasons 1-4 100 times and rank every episode
I'm glad to hear it's still got some genuine gems both in keeping with the good old days and trying new things! I haven't kept up with the show in years, I know I saw through season 6 but I'm not sure where exactly I dropped off. Been meaning to go back for years but among other things the mixed reports of quality has made me hesitate
personally, I love both classic and modern SpongeBob
classic episodes, like say, seasons 1-4 are good in creative and brilliant ways
modern episodes, they are good in a silly comical way and I like that, followed by its own sort of creativity
Needed to be said! 🙏🏻
I genuinely find the modern seasons to be so spectacular and enjoyable of course! :) ✨
One of the long running shows that didn’t grow stale.
Give it some time
I would love to see a live action episode with the actors playing as there real life roles from birthday blowout
Nah, I would love the Broadway actors instead.
*Seasons 9-13 Deserves more Respect*
Yes thank you
I love this thumbnail 😂
Vailskibum that is so true at the very least they’re trying to make SpongeBob funny know a days they need to show modern SpongeBob respect
Who doesn't like modern SpongeBob I love it. Modern SpongeBob is hilarious plus the animation is so good now and expressive honestly its my favorite Era.
I always love a Vailskibum94 episode review!!
I have to say something I actually really like Modern SpongeBob more than original SpongeBob
Because i was a child in 2015 and still today i watched some of the modern Spongebob episode and i like it
Modern SpongeBob needs more attention. It’s not just exaggerated expressions, there’s good comedy, good characters, and it’s just overall entertaining
See, this guy has a point!
And (for the most part) there's no longer the dragged out boring filler that Seasons 6-8 (and "SpongeBob, You're Fired!") were criticized for.
I totally agree with you modern spongebob is incredible
Nice to see others in this comment section have enjoyed modern Spongebob
The check up, tutor sauce and Squid On The Bus are some favourites of mine. Birthday Blowout is amazing
if SpongeBob ever ends, it will be remembered the best show in television history
You haven't done a long-form video in a while. Great job!
Don’t forget the fact “Spongebob in Randomland” has Red Mist Squidward.
More modern episode i wish more people talk about:
Sanitation insanity
Mustard o mine
Doodle dimensión
Krusty kantering
The incredible shrinking sponge
Pat the horse
I actually like modern SpongeBob to. I like the more vibrant colors and expressive animation.
There was a great modern spongebob episode where spongebob and patrick go to bikini bottom at midnight and find their jobs replaced by fish from the twilight zone. I think its called night patties I dunno, but its great! You should give it a watch
I LOVE every SpongeBob episode ever!!!!!!!!
Two other episodes I recommend watching are Man Ray Returns and Potato Puff. The former is similar to MermaidPants, but they have a real nemisis and the ladder is a pretty recent episode and has a lot of fun gags and jokes
Both worth a watch!
Nowadays, yes it's good again. Probably not as good as the pre-movie era, but still good either way.
4:44 This segment was Inspired by the Pink Elephants Scene from Disney's Dumbo just like Bobs Burgers with the animal buts.
My sister and I still love SpongeBob, despite the negativity that people give to the modern era! :3 ❤
People are too judgemental
he spitting facts
It was so cool and creative, it convinced me that there was hope for modern spongebob (since that’s the only episode i’ve seen from any of the seasons in 2015 to now)
While classic Spongebob will always be my favourite the gems of modern Spongebob are incredible
The SB Movie 2004 Rehydrated Reanimated is coming out tomorrow-the show’s 23rd birthday
I really, REALLY liked the episode "Bunny Hunt".
Some episodes are good, but not all are worth the chuckles in the end from the latest seasons. It has been hard since the passing of the late Steven Hillenburg, but still want to see more. Could be the last final season with Hillenburg's tragic death with season 13.
I’d take modern SpongeBob over modern Simpsons, Family Guy etc.
1:28 What obvious reasons? We all know the classic "we have technology" scene.
i literally love new modern spongebob, it’s pretty hilarious with the out of context jokes, nonetheless idk why people hate new modern spongebob
The New Wacky animation style did take me a while to get used to, but it's certainly more fluid and expressive.
I never gave up on SpongeBob and I never will❤️❤️
I'm honestly so happy that mimic madness was on the list because for me it's definitely my favorite modern SpongeBob episode
Of course not!!! I'm hurt that people don't love this show as much anymore it's still the best!
Honestly I love the old Spongebob seasons and the new seasons.
2:59 My Leg has to be my favorite modern SpongeBob episode next to Escape From Glove World. Also, Alpha Jay reviewed that episode! 👀
