The Plague Black IPA Full Brew Day & Homebrew Recipe

- This beer turned out so good that I drank it all before I could review it! This is now my go to Black IPA. It’s super juicy and light which comes as a pleasant surprise given the dark color. I really love the HBC 586 hops, they’re very tropical and fruity and make for a great dry hop!

Hope it turns out great. BIPA is one of my favourite styles of beer. Cheers!
It was fantastic, pretty different than my "Like My Heart" black IPA, that one's more roasty and uses less fruity hops. This one's a tropical juice bomb.
Great video! It’s good to see other are still brewing during this pandemic because let’s face it... what else are we gonna do? Cheers!
I was looking for something new to make and just saw this recipe on brewfather. Sounds delicious. I just started brewing and I love your videos.
I love watching this video and seeing you say “I can’t wait till I have my pulley system”. And now you do!! Fav black ipa is/was (not sure if they still make it) “hop in the dark” by deschutes. So damn good!!
Sounds good Sarah. Never heard about that HBC 586 but looks promising for some sort of summer Ale's or so too. Good to see you keep brewing!! Stay safe and cheers!
I think they just released it but man it's good.
oh ok.. that's why I can't find it on any Aussie websites. Cheers for sharing, will keep my eyes on it here.
Nice!
I made a IPA for during the start of the pandemic and added 2 oz of yarrow to the end of the boil at 3 minutes. Yarrow is known for medicinal purposes and thought it would be great during the pandemic, so I named my IPA Covid19
The yarrow really adds a nice touch this beer!
I actually just tried a beer from Propolis that had yarrow in it. Really nice!
Where is the review for this one?
Found the recipe on Brewfather thinking I should try it. There were some changes when I do not have access to the same malt and hops that you use, but excited for it. :D
I love the intro and wow you have some really great equipment! I just started brewing and I love it! Keep up the great work.
Thanks, will do!
Thanks for another brew day video. Love your descriptors. Making me thirsty for a good craft beer. Peace.
I downloaded a flavor wheel to help me with my language ;)
As always great video. Hops in a can ,thats not a bad idea from a recycling point of view
We've been in total lock down for 4 Weeks and now moving down to level 3 so maybe I can get some grains and brew soon. Cheers from New Zealand. 😎👍
Yeah they're supposed to stay fresher longer we will see
I made this using your recipe. Came out amazing!
That's wonderful! I loved this one, my husband prefers my old recipe though with less fruity hops.
I brewed a beer Friday and named it Corona DIPA. I did not go to the dark side because I did not have any dark side malts. Memories of past history make great beers.
Make sure to drink it with a lime
Holy crap that sounds amazing ... may have to attempt a version of this. Wow. Cheers!
It's so good! Sometimes you luck out and get it great the first time.
Have ben brewing 175L of beer, 6 deferent beer style since the lock down... I do hope it will ende soon.
The beer you ar brewing look awesome, I am almost able to smell the hops from here. Grate video 👍
OMG, that looks amazing! I need to brew beer.
How did it come out can’t find the video of the tasting
Great recipe, can’t wait to see your next one.
Irish Stout is now live!
I want to brew this just so i can smell it 🤣 love the terrarium to 😋
It's a great one. My husband likes to steal brew equipment for our plants.
Just made my black death IPA. Using a lager yeast. really fun stuff.
I'm going to have to try that!
To get a dark colour without the bitterness you could also use Midnight wheat which is great for Cascadian IPA's
I’ll have to look into that I’ve never tried it
Just downloaded your recipe on Brewfather...... now to get the ingredients for the batch.
Cheers from Australia for sharing
Hope you enjoy
Great video, might brew this next 👌
Eso es un poema 😍
How did this turn out? I’m dying over here with anticipation
It’s amazing! I thought I reviewed it but it looks like it got lost in the COVID mess! I’ll try to find a bottle to taste!
Keep them coming... thank you, stay safe and we'll see you next brew :)
I have a bunch ready to edit! Just did my first brew in WA Saturday so get ready for a way better back drop than my kitchen!
Let's not waste our time. It it the end of the world 🗺 So let keep brewing 😀 I just came over your channel. Nice video. Keep up the good work 🍻 Happy brewing ☺️
Something's gotta get us through this mess
Cooles T, greetings from Hamburg Germany
Sounds great! Doing a BIPA today. I have 586 in my fridge. Did the 586 give you an sulphur notes per their description?
Not at all. Super fruity
Any finished pictures
Love to the final color
Do you like using the hop spider? I let my hops free range for now but I want to do a in line filter or two. But a hop spider would be the cheapest option. I just dont want to lose out on hop effectiveness.
you look so much more confident on camera, thanks for the vid 👍
It helps that I had a camera man to direct me ;)
I am in love 😍
You look like Rosie the Riveter we can do it! Poster, great video.
I can be holding a mash paddle (if i ever get one lol)
I wonder if, is possible to have a video to know something about the efficiency of your equipment?🍻😜
Did you know you don’t need to be adding late addition hops to the boil just add your high alpha right away at start of boil and dry hop your aroma hops the last 2 days of first fermentation before transferring to secondary fermentation
happy holidaze
My favorite style. My lock down brew was a English IPA on my new system. Thanks to quarantine I had time to finish the drywall and install the hood vent.
I split my batch 5 gallons imperial house and the other 5 cable car.
Ended up at 7.5% with tons of loral hops in the whirlpool pretty good even out of style.
Many of our breweries are doing 30-50% off kegs (mostly IPAs) to make up for the loss of bar business. I picked up a $49 5 gal keg of 7% hoppy joy. If I take into account all the ingredients and time involved I don't think I could make it for that. I think that's pretty much their cost just to keep the lights on and the grain bins full.
That's awesome (well terribly sad but awesome from a consumer POV) Yeah I think it costs me around $.25 a 12 oz beer at this rate so a little less than that but I buy in bulk so its pretty cheap
Trying to make a good choice in buying a brewing system. Why did you pick the Clawhammer system over things like the Anvil foundry which is half the price? Thanks.
I got it for a promotion. I actually just learned about Anvil's system and am very intrigued. I love Anvil, I have a 10gal kettle and burner by them that seem like they'll survive anything.
Another great brew vid ,Prost
Thank you! More coming soon!
Brewed a BIPA today my 4th and messed up everyone before, fruity is good fingers crossed just editing the video cheers 👍🍻
I hope it turns out!
WOW!!!
The first septic on UA-cam to pronounce caramel in the old lady's English.
India has been on lockdown 😠 since mar 22 and haven't had a drink since..😧😷
I need to buy some yeast and start home brewing as soon as things open up here..cheers
IDK how you're doing it. Stay strong!!
#STAYSAFE DRINK MORE BEERS. GREAT VIDEO.
Thank you!
Do you use 110v elements and if so, how long does it take for the wort to boil?
I do and it's around 45min - 1 hr from mash to boil
Thanks for the good video. I’m thinking about getting into brewing. I see your using the clawhammer system. Can I get your opinion on it ? And how long have you been using ?... thanks
I love it I've had it for 2 years I think. I would recommend getting the 240V if you can to save some brew day time.
Thank you for responding back. I’m saving up to get one of there system’s. It will be the 120.. I was I could afford the 240... lol... but thanks again for your information !!!
Hello,
sorry, water profil gave before or after modify??
Carafa 3 Dehusked ??
It was RO water before additions so pretty empty. The profile is after additions. Yes the Carafa is dehusked
@@FloraBrewing okay, thanks:)
Hey any reason you use Blichmann Riptide pump instead the pump that come with Clawhammer Supply 120V Electric System?
Because I thought it was cool :) The Clawhammer pump is totally adequate for the system I just like new toys
@@FloraBrewing I see you have conical tank. How do you like it vs carboy? I am thinking about change to that.
would you normally use that much malt for a 5 gallon batch? Or is it just because its a black IPA?
It’s usually about that much or a bit lower, I tend to make high abv beers
@@FloraBrewing thank you for that, great video!
Great video! You have another subscriber :-) Cheers
No review of the black eye PA?
I thought I had but I'll make it again to review someday soon :)
Do you double crush your malt?
No but I set it really fine, around .5mm
My LHBS does a pretty fine crush, but I want to try double crush since my Igloo cooler efficiency is only 60%. Consistent pH and temps. Just got a 200 micron brew bag. What’s the efficiency on the Clawhammer?
That sounds awesome. I hope you and your family are staying safe and healthy during our apocolypse. Cheers!
The aim would be real plaque aversion, perhaps some sweet annie, and some wormwood and rosemary...
So how did it turn out?!
Great there’s a video of the tasting in the review playlist
Flora Brewing hey thanks for responding. I don’t see the black ipa under your review playlist? Did you title the review something different?
Noticed you didn't do any sparging of the grains, why is that? I'm very new to this brewing world so excuse my ignorance hehe
Sparge is usually skipped on BIAB (brew in a bag) systems. If you use a BIAB setup, it's usually because you have space concerns and don't have room for a sparge water heater. Not sparging lowers efficiency, but by no means does it make a bad beer. Some BIAB brewers will double-crush their grains to help bring up the efficiency lost by not sparging.
@@beckzach05 wow excellent! Everyday I get to know more about this hobbie
I noticed that when I stopped sparging my efficiency was about the same because I mill my grain so fine so it's just a time saver
couldn't have said it better myself.
May I ask where you got the red shirt? asking for a friend...
Florian Seitz I think it’s a Prost brewing shirt out of Denver.
Correct!
Stay safe :)
Why don't you measure the temp of the wort as its coming from the chiller and transfer straight away if its at pitching temp? Surely this would reduce DMS and contamination issues
It’s not cool enough it comes out of the chiller around 100 + ° to start
where do you live at I will come install a pully for you right now!!
That ceiling will come down in an instant
@@FloraBrewing not if you secure it into a roof truss. I work construction.
You're like the Emily Hobhouse of beer... Or madamme Currie or the nurse in the old war hospital... In my past life I died from a self inflicted wound just to avoid the war and play cricket.. that and the Angelic nurse in the hospital camp... It was those darn spring wire leggings that infected my legs and I died..
Greeting. Why don't you share your recipe in brewfather so we don't have to transcribe?
Just publicized it!
He who cannot be named has equatorial offices, so hell’s yes to a blackened tropical bomb. Brewing, Same here. Dtla be dead
black ipa's matter
indeed
Nice work...beautiful girl😀🖒🐸🐝🌝🌞
Wait...you HAVE COVID?! Can you at least taste the beer? Joking aside, be well.
We've all been Covid free fortunately.
