We booked the Dom Jose Hotel for 4 nights and found the hallways smelled like bug spray, our room looked like a dorm room, and the towels looked like rags. Not only that, but the area there is sketchy and not a place we wanted to spend our vacation. We quickly moved to the "Tivoli Marina Vilamoura Resort" for close to the same amount we paid for Dom Jose. But we weren't at all happy about the $925 we lost!!
mmmmm... I highly doubt this to be true. Dom Jose Beach Hotel is a 3-star hotel in Quarteira which is a fishing town and Tivoli is a 5-star hotel and is also the nearest hotel to the Marina de Vilamoura, one of the "nicer" places in the entire Algarve, with lots of yachts and Irish pubs. I was checking prices at various times of the year and Tivoli always seems to be double the price per night for all the dates. Quarteira is a place with more locals than tourists, but I wouldn't say it's sketchy at all(as you can see from the video), especially in the areas near the beach and the Avenida Infante de Sagres which have restaurants and cafés with good prices, unlike the Marina which has "tourist prices". About the rooms, as of this year, I know they were all renovated and the amenities are great as well.
