You are so lucky to be traveling and enjoying life. I did travel, international, for a bit. There is nothing like the freedom of taking the EuroRail and visiting cities, towns and locations. Do it all now, while you are a young man. Once you grow older, you have more responsibilities and less time and money to do this sort of free spirit travel. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Wise words Andy! I need to keep reminding myself to always travel. There really is not greater feeling of freedom than just visiting new European places!
Interesting - I feel like I can afford travel way more now that I'm older. I am from Europe and used to travel in Europe as a student (with very little money, staying in youth hostels etc.) Now I'm in my 40's and I have a good job, my husband does too, and we are now travelling inside and outside of Europe as often as we can with our kids. It has only gotten better over time. When the kids were smaller, we used to stay within Europe, but now we visited the American Westcoast, are going to Thailand and Bali this year, and are planning trips to Canada, some African countries and Costa Rica in the next years. I agree that you should travel when you're young, but most people can afford more expensive trips later on in life when they have saved money over the years. I feel like if you have less possibilities when you are older something is going wrong.
Yes do it young man! I lived in France for a few years in my twenties and went all over Europe and it changed my life! I go all the time now and I’m in my 60’s!
After some research, I decided Eze and Menton were the two places I didn't want to miss. I went to both in my short time on the Cote D'Azur and they didn't disappoint. The views I took in were something I'll never forget. 🇨🇵 ♥️⛱️
Principality of Monaco :) This is why they have no King, but are ruled by the Grimaldi Princes. Beautiful views, thank you! If I could be anywhere now, the Côte d'Azur would be it.
Your images and the moments you've captured are just beautiful ! As a French I really am happy that someone highlighted the beauty of our country in such a way !
Truly love Menton it's been my family's holiday destination for over 30 years 2 generations of us are still going there. We never tire of it. Will be there in a few weeks❤
I have a limited knowledge of the Cote d'Azur. My hometown is Turin, in the North West of Italy, the capital of the State of Savoy and the first capital of the Kingdom of Italy (from 1861 to 1866). For many centuries and until 1860 Nice and the Eastern part of the French Riviera were part of the our country and today that region is the favourite seashore for my fellow citizens. I am the exeption, 'cause I choose the Italian Rivera di Levante (Eastern Riviera) and I have a little house on Portofino's peninsula as my "buen retiro". Anyway, I had been a few times in the Cote d'Azur. My favorite places are Roquebrune (Roccabruna until 1860), Eze (Eza) and the beautiful village of St. Paul de Vance. I spent two weeks on vacation near St, Tropez in 1998. Nice place, but it was August: too crowdy. Not for me. My suggestion is to avoid July and August. Many artists lived and worked in the Cote d'Azur: Renoir, Chagall, Picasso, Matisse and many others. So if you plan a vacation on the French Riviera, you wan't have only beautiful landscapes, hicking trails and the deep blue sea, but also several museums with great paintings. Near Vance don't miss the Rosay Chapel (Chapelle du Rosaire): the little church, with all the murals and the glasses had been designed and drawn by Matisse. A visit deserves the journey.
Ryan is the man, i was in Sardinia in June and thanks to you i added the Baunei coast and rented a boat for a day..its was an amazing time! Now i'm off to Cote D'azur at the end of the month and sure enough another video from you with great tips..definitely going to be renting the boat in Cassis for the Calanques
Just got back from , South of France, and went to most of the places you mentioned. All the places like Monaco, Cannes, Eze , a bus ride or train ride from Nice. I also visited Antibes and St Paul Du Vence two great places which you did not mention. 🤔😂♥️Good job though. 💯
i am sorry but it is not "wild" at all ! as a french living on the "french riviera" it s a nightmare during the summer, too many people coming here, noise, prices multiplied by at least three so we are looking forward to be in septembre to find again peace in our place
I was in Calanques too in late May and thought I saw you, but wasn't sure. Haha now I know it was you. Definitely one of the most beautiful places in France and also Eze and Menton are great!
@@RyanShirley - I absolutely LOVE your Europe series. When you do a more in-depth one for Venice, I'll be first in line to watch it. Keep up the amazing work you do man.
@@RyanShirley - I would certainly love them, as I feel they would compliment your existing video catalog, quite well. Nothing to complain about with how you shoot and edit your current stuff; they are extremely well done and carry so much information for the traveller, and shines with the visuals. One of my favorite travel channels. I've been to Venice before, but seeing it thru your eyes and visuals, would really be a treat.
Very thorough as usual and some great tips for visitors. Glad you included Menton and La Turbie. The Italian Riviera is also called Liguria after the tribe Augustus defeated. Antibes was a very big stop for visitors in the early 20th century; I'd have loved to see the Riviera then or in its 1950s heyday.
Looking at real estate online in Antibes is my therapy :0) I love that France does not knock down old farmhouses, places that have stood since the 13th century. Where I live? We have nothing old and beautiful. Two hours away, we have some Art Deco buildings, but 100 years is recent when one has been to placed that understand the value of the past. I will definitely look into Antibes in mid 20th century, it sounds rich with stories!
You didn't mention a place called "L'escalet" in Ramatuelle which is fantastic! and a national park of fishes on Port Cros island close to porquerolles. And you have to check how beautiful is Rayol Canadel. Your video is nice! keep going
L'escalet is gorgeous. Its also worth walking from there along the cliff path to the other quieter beaches towards Cap Taillat. We travel here each summer from Wales UK. This year will be first since the pandemic. I'm counting down the days !!
Monaco and cannes are amongst my least favorite sports but still worth a visit. For Monaco one day is definitely enough so you still have more time to explore all the other beautiful places ☺️

Fun fact on Marseille : Around 600 B.C., Greeks from the city of Phocaea, located on the shores of the Aegean Sea, left Asia Minor to settle more than 2,000 kilometers from home. After a long journey, these settlers founded a new city on the western shore of the Mediterranean to be called Massalia, Massalia (Μασσαλία) today known as Marseille is founded by Phocaeans (Greek colony).

Hi Ryan! Incredible video and tips, I always enjoy your work! I am travelling to France, and looking for more info. Among your stuff I found this one and one on 10 or 25 best places in France. have you made any others?
To be precise, the area between the Italian border and Nice, for centuries the County of Nice, historically Italian speaking, until 1960 had been part of the kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia, the precursor of the kingdom of Italy. In 1860 the county was ceded to France on the basis of an international treaty with Piedmont, which got help from France in a war against Austria, for the Italian unification. To Garibaldi's great dismay, tas the Italian national hero was actually from Nice. Place names were in Italian, until then, such as Nizza, which is still used in German, or Monaco/Montecarlo which retained the original, as an independent State. 👋
