Definitely Power Metal and having seen them live I can confirm that Herman and Sam can play this song (the full version, not this short one) note perfect.
Garbage music and band
@@joelramsey9639 okay 🤷♀️
@@joelramsey9639 and garbage taste and opinion. Look up Dragonforce reactions just to trash em? That's really sad.
They can play it live ridiculously well… when they aren’t too drunk. Which is a 50/50 coin toss.
@@pro-v7500 "ridiculously well" lmao
Im 99% sure this song on Guitar Hero gave me tendonitis trying to beat it on expert.
Still flares up all these years later.
I still have carpal tunnel from trying to best it on guitar hero too
shoulda been playing RockSmith...
I read ur comment quickly and thought you said you got a 99% on this song on GH, and was about to call BOOOSHIT! But then I remembered you could turn down the difficulty. lol Yea, this gave me carpal tunnel too, but it was SO FUN!
Played it daily just to be able to finish on medium,as my 🎸 playing brother could do it on expert. My eyes could Never believe he played most everything on expert. It can be done, never by myself lol.
I played this song medium when i was my best form.. but i played with gamepad and not a guitar controller. :D
But as Duane mention that.. this song in Rocksmith... That is a crasy thing. I tried i truly tried but i cant reach the 5% of the notes level. :D
Maybe one day i can play it almost 30% :D Dreamin' big you know!
This song in guitar hero was an important part of my childhood, as well as my introduction to rock music in general, guitar hero has so many great songs! Cheers guys! Great reaction. 🙌🏻🔥

I couldn't get enough of this song when it came out. What's crazy is that you only heard the edited version for the official video, there's like 2 more minutes of guitar solos in the original

@@Hauntti That just goes without saying.
I’m pretty sure DragonForce would fall under the category of Melodic Power Metal
Always thought of it as Speedmetal. So basically fast PowerMetal.
@@christophertresp7037 yeah basically power metal is a branch of speed metal
Speed metal is has elements of hardcore punk and biker metal as well as elements of late 70's British metal. Just because it's fast don't make it any thing more than power metal.
It's labeled as "Extreme" Power Metal
I could see them with many subgenre labels... power metal, speed metal, mythology metal, I could see 'melodic metal' (new sub genre to me),
This is power metal, characterized by fast, technical guitars, basses and drums with very melodic riffs. And of course a great voice by the singers. Not my favorite metal genre, but I can appreciate the virtuosity that this genre brings.
Power metal was initiated in the late 80s by bands like Helloween and others.
Also the lyrics are often of an epic nature. Ascending to the heavens, unleashing the hounds of hell, victory in battle, honorable death in battle, being strong, blah blah blah... also not just Helloween but a big chunk of the NWOBHM including Iron Maiden and to a greater degree Judas Priest kind of gave birth to this genre, or at least the prototype, but this is next-level power metal. Turned up to 11.
@@glaframb speed metal is a very ambiguous term in my opinion, it has been coined and related to many genres like thrash, power, and heavy metal. So, you can say that it has the element of speed, like those other genres as well.
As someone who grew up on Hair/Glam Metal, Thrash Metal and what we now call Traditional Metal in the 80s, I have actually grown to prefer Power Metal over the others. As the double bass drum with the galloping rhythm and stronger power chords gets my attention more. However, that's not to say I don't like Thrash or Traditional Metal anymore, because I do, it's just that I find that Power Metal has a bit more of that Classical Music element in Metal than other genres. Because you know, Metal is really just a blend of Classical Music and The Blues, right?
@@glaframb Speed Metal is something you could apply to any genre of Metal that doesn't really fit into other genres. Megadeth for example was always co sidereal to be a Thrash Metal band, but if you listen to the structure of the riffs, they don't really have that Chug effect that Thrash is known for. Furthermore, Megadeth is clearly not Power Metal, for the lack of the galloping drum and bass lines, and higher pitched vocals, so it could and really should be characterized as Speed Metal because it's fast (for the most part) and has rough vocals. DragonForce is almost a different animal altogether. They're either Extreme Speed Metal or Extreme Power Metal. I'd go with the latter, because their song structure and themes are very obviously Power Metal, but played at such Speed and technicality that you almost have to apply the Extreme pejorative to it.
Brad & Lex, DragonForce is known to incorporate video game sounds within their guitar solos. It's just what they do.
Love this song so much. This version cuts out a huge amount of epicness and its sad, so for your own sake go back and listen to the full version. Absolutely worth it
thats the sad thing, they won't
these reaction are one-shot.
This came out in 2006 and is generally categorized as power metal or speed metal. There are so many sub genres of metal now it's mind-blowing.
Keep in mind, that really fast kick (bass) drum pattern uses a paddle apparatus that allows you to use both your left and right foot to operate the pedal on the kick drum, rather than just your right foot only traditionally. At one point, Lamb of God set a speed record on the kick drum of 420 beats per minute (bpm), which is about 7 beats per second.
...it is mind blowing! One of the million "Music Choice" channels on my cable tv is "Metal", but it is not metal as I knew and love...it is horrible. However, the "Rock" channel sounds more like what I grew up with as " metal"...then there is the "Alt channel" and the "Adult alt "channel...also not what they were in the 80s and 90s..times have changed,.hard to keep up. ...When I was a teenager, Led Zeppelin, Glen Campbell and Abba were all played on the same AM channel...in the family Ford Pinto
@@raymo6795 Relatable.
Check out Spencer from Archspire. He'll play faster than 420 bpm with one hand when he's gravity-blasting. That dude's from another planet.

Unleash the Archers - Awakening is a fantastic power metal example and really shows off the musicianship of all the members.
They're overrated.
Eternal Champion are clear.
They've reacted to Unleash the Archers before, they didn't do Awakening but they did react to Tonight We Ride.. UTA and Dragonforce can go into the same speed/power metal category easily..
Love UTA! I discovered them listening to their cover of "Northwest Passage" from a facebook posting and fell in love with the band in an instant
Fun fact about the asian guitarist, Herman Li, he often streams playing music or just hanging out with other band friends and musicians (the other guitarist is a regular guest on his streams afaik).
He used to stream on Twitch but the automated copyright system flagged and banned his account for breaking DMCA, problem is he was playing his own music!
Last I heard he moved to UA-cam to stream lol
Just watching that guitar duel always amazes me. He takes a bit to have a quick drink, slow and calm, no hurry, calmly leans down and sets the bottle on the stage floor, and *instantly* goes to his guitar and proceeds to go ham.
When you're that confident that you can time your start to the precise moment your friend stops his part, you have achieved true mastery of a song.
Welcome to the black magic of musicality known as "speed metal." Watching the rapidly morphing expression of incredulity on Lex's face as she was trying to process the insanity was golden. Seen it many times when people first hear Dragonforce. No studio tricks, no layering tracks, just pure, superhuman speed and dexterity all around. DragonForce is insane. Another great track to check out is "Soldiers of the Wasteland."
More accurately it's "extreme" power metal
It's power metal foo
DragonForce isn't speed metal, it's sped up Metal. Agent Steel is Speed Metal.
I would agree with Speed Metal. I put them in the same category as bands like Annihilator, Artillery, Blaze Bayley, Ygnwie Malmsteen and I would argue 3 Inches of Blood with at least half of their songs (Men of Fortune being a great example). It's cleaner, lacking the crunchy/dirty sound of Thrash, and doesn't rely very much on, if at all, the galloping, triplet feel for speed. Power Metal, in my opinion goes all in on a fantasy sound and feel. Great example of that would be: Dragonland, Tyr, and Rhapsody/Rhapsody of Fire. That's MY definition and I get other's may have other personal definitions. I'm just explaining where I'm coming from and where my lines are.
This is not speed metal. GTFO
Welcome to the world of Power Metal! I have been waiting for you guys to get into this genre for awhile. Power metal has it's roots in 80's metal primarily Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, but as you can tell it's much faster. Lots of bands in this genre, I really hope you dive in. Power metal revived my interest in music with this video actually, and then I started listening to all the bands in this genre. There is a lot here, strap in! Man, do some Sonata Arctica, Edguy, Avantasia, Blind Guardian...fun, fast, melodic music!
When I saw this song on my subscription feed I was like wowww…. Can’t wait to see Lex react to this❣️ Did not disappoint.
You two are awesome. Happy New Year!!!🎊
You have to check their cover of Jonny Cash's "Ring of Fire". Dragonforce is an acquired taste. Some don't like the speed they're playing. They are fantastic live and had the chance to meet them. Very humble guys.
Haha, the speed is the only thing that made them good, what would be left without that? Just some cheesy Pop-HardRock.
I saw them live back in 2007 and took my Dad to see them…. They kept this energy through the whole concert..My dad had see Led Zepplin, The Who and other icons live before but he said that this concert was probably the best one he’s ever been too.
I absolutely love this song and the precision is insane! Brad ought to like this one because at the end of Guitar Hero Three you play this one in the closing credits of the game. Herman Li is a guitar beast!
If you guys haven't done Awakening by Unleash the Archers, I highly suggest it
Came to suggest this and BabyMetal, Road of Resistance, live in Japan, since DragonForce co-wrote it
Yes, yes, yes!
overrated. why do you all choose awakening when they have so many better songs?
its like youre all the same generic people all asking for the same things over and over... and even worse, its the WRONG things.
how do you all have the same demented thought patterns and opinions?
@@adameves5970 Because I like irritating muppets like you who have tantrums to something that doesn't even affect them.
@@JaggedDagger IKR! My fav is "Abyss" but "Awakening" is a good starting point. Love our NORTHERN BROs!
Welcome to the genre "Power Metal". Dragonforce is a newer band, but they have been around a while. They are still active. I spoke with their drummer new year's eve on his twitch stream.
I saw them play live in 2017 at a venue the size of a Jimmy John’s. It is to this day one of the best concerts I've ever been to.
This is the short version. The full version has slightly extended intro and outro, way longer guitar solos in the middle, and most importantly imo, an epic bridge which is left out of this version.
They are incredibly good live, never miss a note, can vouch, have seen them live a couple of times!
I honestly love all your reactions. You just got a new subscriber. Happy New Year
Thank you both for the reaction video of a truly great song 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Herman Lee (one of the guitarists) is a frequent twitch streamer nowadays who does a lot of music content. Some of it is interesting stuff and he does funny interviews with other famous guitarists.
As others have mentioned, DragonForce is power metal. Power metal usually has soaring vocals and guitars, and there's usually an epicness to the music/story being told. There's also a lot of double-base or beats that seem to hop through the song and work over 4 or 8 beats. Thrash metal is most often a lot crunchier (often palming the strings on the guitars), the singing still has notes but the growls are still there (as opposed to false-chord growls like Arch Enemy). There will be a lot more blast beats and often the drums either keep a basic rhythm with a lot of quick fills (such as Lars in Metallica) or they sound more like a machine gun firing (See, for instance, Divine Heresy on their song Facebreaker from the album "Bringer of Plagues."
It’s power metal/speed metal
You have just witness history in the making. Dragon force definitely are a band to check out and the guitarists are on a next planet level. Great to see your true reactions to this song. Fun fact Brad should have heard this song already from a game. I won't sell it out. Great review and great reaction 👏👏👏👏
Mesmerized by the alternating solos… we were all watching your reaction because we knew it was coming. Y’all were captivated. 👍🏼 Not really my thing but I appreciate talent. Keep it diverse! Love you guys, checking out Rap God next!
Kings of powermetal. They are undeniably brilliant at what they do. I saw this line up twice live, and they were unbeliavably good, and huge fun to watch.
Happy new year to a great couple!!!!
Herman Li is an amazing guitarist. I love watching his gear tests on the DragonForce channel.
the funny thing is that nobody talks about the other guitarist, it's even unfair.
Sam is arguably better.
Sam wrote their hit songs. he deserves way more attention and credit. not that herman isnt great btw
That is just a good head banging power metal ! Never get sick of this video.
Lex was feeling those solo's. Love it!
Hats off to the drummer. full tilt the whole time. hell ya
Happy New Year, love you guys! Hope you have a great 2022!!
Power metal all the way! The way you tell a lot of the time is by the melodies guitar solos and a powerful singer. A lot of the songs will be as to sing along to as well. My favorite genre of metal! Keep up the good work I really.enjoy your videos.
I would classify them as "Speed Metal". Speed Metal was a record label created off shoot of Thrash, which Megadeth promoted themselves as in their early career. Another band that I can remember that fell under this genre was a band called Riot. While not as fast as Dragonforce, they did have faster tempos and the more operatic style vocals.
It's power metal
Woo hoo ..love the reaction!! Head bangers yeah!!
Heroes of Our Time is another awesome blistering power metal beauty from Dragonforce.
I saw them open up the main stage at Ozzfest 2007. It's every bit as good live.
please do Tina S covering this, you've watched her before on the Beethoven moonlight sonata video
Abso-freakin-lutley
I loved her reaction to the entire song! metal heads love this song. so it's fucking cool to see other people's reactions! weather you liked the song or not, you still bop to it🤘❤
Saw them live once back in the day. They put on a good show
Power Metal all the way, cannot wait to see them live in a couple of months they begin a USA tour.
So glad you got the video on this one.
Now that you've seen this try Junna drum cover of this song. Simply amazing! 🤘🏻
At the end when you hear the guitar go “Waaaa bow” was the sound of the string snapping
The guitarist in the white shirt in the video is Herman Li from Dragonforce. Roughly a year ago he did a charity event (on his twitch) for the lead who is battling a terrible disease, and he played this with TheDooo. It was awesome to see him still shred like this.
*FAST!* Yep, you guys hit that one pretty spot on for a title caption. Maybe I'm weird, but I found that note completely fantastic.
Hooray, finally. Know a couple of these guys pretty well, good people
I love you both with all of my heart.
Lexi is so confused but loves it all, she don’t know what rhythm to follow
This band can do it LIVE too!, I was sceptical till I saw em Live, thought it was studio tricks. Great Band! Peace!
Man this song brings back memories of playing Guitar Hero for days! lol
Perfect song to end the year on guys!
What’s amazing with this song isn’t the speed and technicality, though those are clearly impressive. What is do amazing is that they all hold the tempo so steady. I would think there would be an urge to either speed up or slow down with everything going on. I agree with another commenter; seek out the full version.
They are incredible live!!!
It's about time y'all got to this! I am surprised that Brad didn't recognize this from his guitar hero days. Hardest song to play. Anyway, this falls into the power metal niche. A lot like Iron Maiden but faster.
Herman Li and Sam are prime examples of understanding guitar theory and taking the instrument to the extreme. Herman has a UA-cam channel and it is something to watch how he picks up a riff so easily.
Coming to Portland, March 10, 2022. Sweeet!
Dragonforce plays in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. on April 13 and another amazing band Battle Beast from Finland is opening for them. If you have time check them out.
Remember beating this on g-hero 3 on expert when the game came out and I felt so accomplished lmao. The "unhuman achievement" on xbox. Ah what a time
I was wondering how long it would be before you guys reacted to this one!
Hi Brad and Lex been watching for a while you're finally came up on genre music which is my favorite Power metal DragonForce is awesome all their albums are great they got some great songs you should check out the new album is called extreme power metal they do a version of celine-dion-my-heart-will-go-on on that album keep on rocking guys
You have entered the realm of Power Metal🤘🏼.
May i suggest:
Rhapsody- unholy warcry
- Emerald Sword
Luca turilli- Black Dragon
- prophet of the last Eclipse
I think Lex got more out of this one than Brad did. I was surprised neither one of you mentioned the drummer. Both the guitarists demonstrate amazing reflexive speed and accuracy. Most guitarists can't play even the wrong notes that fast. The guitar duet in this song reminds me of the guitar duet at the end of Hotel California by the Eagles; except on steroids. Tina S does an interesting cover of the guitar parts from this song, where she plays both the guitar parts. Herman Li of Dragonforce posted a very positive reaction video about her playing. You guys are great by the way.
You're going to love this song barely an inconvenience. wow wow wow wow
It's funny watching this channel seeing Lex slowly define and describe sounds, she's basically teaching herself the history of music and genres.
Awesome video! Love this song! Would love to see you react to Heroes of Our Time by DragonForce as well 🔥
This song came out around 2005. Power metal. Bands like Rhapsody of fire, unleash the archers, blind guardian, beast in black, stratovarius, gloryhammer etc. are considered power metal. They can have elements of classic heavy metal as well. Imo classic heavy metal bands like Dio, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Manowar, Yngwie Malmsteen influenced the genre that became power metal.
Such a legendary band and song. And Herman and Sam are as good (and fast) as this seems. Having not finished the video, I can see Lex really liking this and Brad absolutely hating it..lol.
Also, Dragonforce have done some very 80's sounding songs. One of which was advertised as this video went off. If you want some really good melodic metal check out "Strangers" by them. I would also recommend "Hero's of our time" which was nominated for a grammy award for best metal performance.
I love DF, but strangers is a skipable track
@@Stevenirons Strangers turned someone that has never heard Dragonforce into a fan. Hard to argue with that.
@@mtaffer I'd argue that if that song turned them on to DF then they really don't like DragonForce because that song isn't a fair representation of the band
@@Stevenirons I love that song, I think the chorus is ridiculously catchy and i'm so glad they released it as a single. It was a no brainer to me because 80's metal lovers might like it and get turned onto the band. I love everything Dragonforce does including that song. I think they have filler songs for sure but that's not one of them.
I only know this song from guitar hero as I don’t typically listen to this sort of music but I remember reading a long time ago that this song is written through the eyes of a dragon, and I think that’s awesome 🥰
Dragonforce is insane in terms of speed, but they also have great ballads like Trail Of Broken Hearts, one of my favourites.

True story:
This song gained popularity on Guitar Hero as the most difficult song - obviously.
My wife of 12 years now is a 4th generation musician here in Detroit. The 1st time I went to her parents house when we were dating, I heard this song's guitar solo BLASTING from the upstairs.
Me: "Who's that upstairs?"
Wifey: "That's my 16 year old little bro. "
Me: *not realizing what level of musicians I was dealing with yet
"Oh cool. So the little guy likes guitar hero?"
Wifey: "That's him! Don't ever say guitar hero in this house or he'll kill you."
TL/DR: My GF's lil bro was shredding this song on his guitar upstairs and i thought he was playing guitar hero.
This sub genre is called power metal and or sometime categorized as extreme metal
I love how Lex cuts into the topic every time immediately, she real feel it)
You should try the JUNNO drum cover as well. Your minds will be blown how a little could could play this song almost perfectly.
You should check out anything by Lovebites, an all female band from Japan that plays same type of power metal, they even toured with Dragonforce before the pandemic.
This is the first time that I've heard DragonForce and WOW! I'm not into ANY kind of Heavy Metal but I do know what thrash metal eg Metalica sounds like. I'm a big fan of AOR/Melodic Rock. I would describe Dragon force as a thrash version of Melodic Rock but with higher notes and more of a verse chorus song construction, if that makes sense.
Hi guys.
The looks on your faces made me chuckle quite a bit. 😁
As much as I know a lot of this didn't make sense to you, I'm going to request a reaction to a cover of this song.
The artist is Tina Setkic, better known as Tina S.
She uploaded this cover in 2016, she was 17 years old.
She very suddenly disappeared from the public eye in 2017 after sharing her cover of Ludwig Van Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata (3rd Movement) on her UA-cam channel.
She has also covered Van Halen, Steve Vai, Megadeth, Metallica, Vinny Moore, and many more.
And her reason for covering such intense and complex songs?
"Because they're difficult to play." - Tina S.-
There are many guesses as to why she disappeared.
From, "She took a break to go to college" to even suggesting she died. 😬
Guitar player Herman Li, from DragonForce did a livestream where he reacted to this cover and was completely blown away stating that this may very well be the best cover of this song out there.
From loss for words, to swearing, he couldn't believe this young girl is the new record holder for the best cover of "Through the Fire and Flames".
I hope to see this reaction, I know Lex is going to enjoy it and I say that because I know guitar is her thing. 👍
ua-cam.com/video/XpASSx0ecTU/v-deo.html
Thank you for the video, reaction and comments. Stay safe and stay blessed.

you two for sure need to check out some Documentaries "Heavy - the Story of Metal, Metal - a Head Bangers Journey, Metal Evolution" It Will get you on track with your timelines and Subgenre's
I'd put this in the category of power metal. Herman Li and Sam Totman can really play guitar. Tina S. does an awesome guitar cover of the song that Herman Li even thought was great.
please please please listen to trail of broken hearts by these guys. one of my favorite childhood songs, fantastic power ballad.
My wife and I used to compete who gets a higher score playing this on an Xbox controller in GH3. I would get back from work on her day off to a "took me a day, but I beat your score!" right at the door. That went on for a while, good times))
Intense, love it
Your involvement as viewers of this video is determined by only one criterion - whether you notice during Herman's solo the fact that Sam drinks beer.
You followed the solo. You deserve a like. And I just love ur reactions, Brad & Lex, keep do in what u do in :)
Aquillies priester is that insane drummer, there's videos of him testing different drums and cymbals
We used to call it "speed metal". Perfect for getting pumped before going out.
DragonForce is a SPEED METAL band. Speed Metal is kinda like Thrash Metal (like Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax were back in the early 80's), but focuses way more on the speed component than the heavy aspect of it (but as a metal subgenre, is still heavy). For reference, Pantera was considered "Groove Metal" (which is much more describable as "headbanging metal").
They are from 1999 usually, first time I heard them I also was like WTF lol but after a few listens I really like it now 🔥🤘🔥
