Born in 1952 grew up with music from 40's,50's,60's and the 70's. Rock n Roll, British invasion, Hippies, Psychedelic, Disco, Rock.
Those were the days. I'm 70 now and music took a turn long ago still some good ones here and there but not on the magnitude of yesteryear's.

Disco and Pop killed good old rock, it started in the late 70s and was declared dead by the end of the 80s.
The only good music coming out was from the older artists who were still hanging on.

We, who were teens in the 60’s, are so fortunate. Optimism, anticipation, energy, justice, peace, and awakening surged in the music and in daily life. Sure, there were problems….serious problems (á la “Eve of Destruction”) but there was inherent confidence in the promise of constantly improving lives. An ethereal yet priceless gift would be memories of a summer filled with surf, transistor radios music, bikinis, beads, peace signs, bell bottoms, mini skirts, op-art, the Sunset Strip, real muscle cars, lime rickies, drive-in movies and drive-in burgers joints, and so, so much more.

Back then there were a lot of good sounds, but on shows like Top of the pops, and Ready Steady Go, the artists used to usually mime to their record. Also the microphone was a relatively new technology, as was the electric guitar, arguably, electronic, (fake) music. The older generation of the day used to complain that “ singers of today can’t sing with their own voice”, as singers of the past could, when they were growing up, pre WW2.

Don’t be overly sad. 70’s was when an angel agreed to marry me. We built a tiny house and had first 2 of 4 children. She has passed now but not from my heart. The 70’s gave us special memories no one can take away. We missed the war and the holocaust and some of us Vietnam so don’t have the horrors others do. 70’s were good to us, treasures deep inside us. Every time we listen to this music others around us may never know our secrets.

I only love the old music, those before 1980. 1950s and 60s are esp rich in very nice music.
Why they were so nice music, and now so suck ?
I am retired, divorced, with children moved out to form their families. So I go out to walk around to a few restaurants, cafes, and food court to pass my days, listening to old music thru my hifi bluetooth speaker or earphones with electronics modified by myself, esp those 60s music like Andy Williams, Ronnie Aldrich, Louise Armstrong. They warm my heart!
But I hv never heard their music any more elsewhere especially much less radio and tv being played at public places now a day in Singapore.

I am from Sydney Australia. I see the number of comments about Del Shannon and rightly so. He was far from a one hit wonder, say a ten hit wonder might be closer to the mark. I was lucky to see him live at Castle Hill RSL Club about six weeks before his terrible death. He was great on stage that night although i felt he looked a bit worn out. Couldn't believe it when a few weeks later he was no longer with us. I think he must have suffered from bipolar disorder to do what he did. So much talent.

Sincere condolences for loss of your beloved family members. Born in '63, many of my cousins, aunts & uncles were all within shouting distance. When five, I spent a lot of time at J's while cuz's were in school & my folks worked. I am forever indebted to Darlene for letting me play her 45's while primping at her vanity, daydreaming of being teenage like her. No one had to babysit me, I was entranced just watching their newfangled washing machine agitate with the lid up (no safety stop yet). Following that exciting preschool adventure (LoL) I'd spin records for hours daily, entranced by sounds of Dionne Warwick, Tom Jones, John Fred & his Playboy Band, Allan Sherman, Otis Redding, Herb Alpert, B.J. Thomas, Gary Puckett & the Union Gap, The Supremes, The O'Kaysions, Aretha Franklin & so many more! I discovered LP's once parents joined mail-order record club, developing a lifelong love of multiple genres, ultimately becoming a musician.

Rock and roll is a genre of popular music that evolved in the United States during the late 1940s and early 1950s. It originated from black American music such as gospel, jump blues, jazz, boogie-woogie, rhythm, and blues, as well as country music.
Rock 'n' roll is a popular music genre that combines elements of rhythm and blues (R&B), jazz, and country music with the addition of electric instruments. Originally associated with youth revolt and transgression, the genre is known for energetic performances, catchy melodies, and often insightful lyrics.

I plan to listen all the music but upon hearing “rhythm of the falling rain” I feel extreme sadness because I remember my dad😢 this is one of his favorite song and we jam with our guitars when he’s still alive 😔.

I like the 60's I graduated from high school in 1960. But the 70's in my opinion were the pinnacle of modern musical artistry. Almost all canned music in stores is 70's which is a tribute to that era.
