Years ago back on Funcouver Island, we set up a range on the jobsite. So every time a shovel would get broken or a pitchfork a saw blade it would be sharpened and it was game on...those targets got moved around from site to site, recycle old tools sure was fun to have a break and a little fun well working.... Cheers from Vietnam
Hey Ryan, you had mentioned shooting gongs. You can take old empty 5 gal propane tanks, cut off the bottoms and make hanging gongs with them. I know around my area, people are always given them away. Could add to your fun!
FWIW, the sporting clays place near me has a stand with a roof over it like a little pavilion that keeps you out of the rain/snow and there is one of those propane heaters in it for when everything is freezing cold. I was surprised how comfortable that small heater made everything with no walls and zero insulation. I'd take that old wood stove you have in the tarp tool shed and repurpose it into heat for a new, "luxury" shooting platform. It is basically just a small, covered deck with a simple roof, and the wood stove set up at the back, behind you when you are facing the range. When it is chucking down the rain or snow or -5 outside, you can be both dry and reasonably warm. It makes shooting in lousy weather much nicer.
I've been setting up my shooting range and the UA-cam algorithm showed me the way lol. My AR destroyed all the stands and mounts I had. Now I just use wire from political advertising signs. It breaks and I reset it. I built a square frame out of trees and the targets hang down in between the posts. I havent shot much 556 yet but I have shot 2-300 9mm. Its holding up well. I only use one wire on each target, the spall isn't that big of a deal. I like the single wire because the target swings a lot more freely and less predictably. It's been a long time since I've watched you. Looks like you're still Killin it! Keep it up!
I enjoy the monolog, I feel like Ryan is talking to me! He'll finish the cabin in due time. Thank you for sharing your little slice of paradise with us.
Enjoyed your thought process for the shooting range. I have similar property and situation with setting up a range through the trees. Now I have to get one of those timers to beat your score.
I hope you decide to make an outdoor kitchen soon….enjoy your building. Not really into shooting but I’m sure there are lots of people that do and I know you like to do that. Just some friendly feed back . Take care 🇨🇦
"why's it so much fun....." the smell of gunpoweder, the clink of the target, and the lovely cheapness of 22 make it very enjoyable! Now I need to get out to let some freedom seeds fly, thanks a lot!
31:16 when you said "That's how you know a real craftsmen did it." Got to admit, I was disappointed you did get the router out and tidy up those edges. 😉
I am guessing the Lord is pushing you to get prepared lol I did same as the push started in 08 when I lived at second home in Michigan my hubby loved all the guns I got us lol but my push became a shove then he told me get back home to texas house so I sold that Michigan place yet I kept getting that get prepared push, I didn’t know about utube till my daughter said watch that and see which ones he directs you to… now I am growing and raising my food source, canning and dehydrating. Love how your ready for bear so to speak, hope your learning gardening also brother it’s a booger of a learning curve lol
You said that your husband: "told me get back home to Texas." Are you his servant or his property? If I ever tried to order my wife to do anything she'd politely request that I first piss up a rope. It's sad to hear you are married to someone who doesn't respect you. Good luck.
It’s great the way you mix your avocations! Let’s build a shooting range! Oh, I know, let’s make the target stands out of cedar that we can carve with the chain saw! Priceless!
I shot my first deer with a Marlin 30-30 like yours in 1962. Some of my friends like to shoot their 30-30s, and to save money they reload, and cast lead bullets. The bullets are the most expensive part of reloading. They build small "sand boxes" under their targets, to reclaim the lead.
also saw you spray painting..2 things... line up the spraying hole with the dot on the inside rim..all spray cans have them... finally take the paint can nozzle off and put it on a wd40 can.. spray it... then replace it on the paint can... makes spraying a lot better... when you are done with paint spraying... take nozzle of paint can and again put on wd40 can.. spray it clean...you will never have a clogged paint nozzle again..
I’ve watched every single one of your videos and this is my favorite episode, even more than when my name got carved into the table! I too love shooting steel, I am one of the range officers and my local range where we have a ton of steel targets. You’d be surprised how much abuse the carriage bolt tops can take, same with the harbor freight chain!
Be interesting to see where the projectiles go after hitting the targets in all your different hangs and stands. Safety first for sure.. ✌️ Wheelchair John in Idaho. Actually camped out at Stewart's Point on Lake Mead, Nevada, in my van. Hitting a bunch of places. Hoover dam, Las Vegas, grand canyon, lake Havasu..lol. yee haw it's hot now too 😅😢
Most ammo just drops in front by a few feet … it always surprises me that ammo doesn’t go flying off real far away … if the target has give or flex ability the ammo drops off the target close by … much safer then hard solid stable targets …. If you use high caliber ammunition with high velocity they do bounce off and ricochet further distances .
I've done good steel targets hung up by chains and they break pretty quick! I'm going for the 2X4 stand directly behind the target with the angled spring hanger next. 9mm, 10mm, and 223/556 sprays a lot of debris so I don't want anything around the target.
You definitely want some give and angle in targets to minimize chances of ricochet!! Also something a little different, id have number callouts on each or certain targets
Your next channel - TAPEWORM RANGE!!!! If it requires a 12-inch target, just go to a 6-inch target at the same distance and that would doubles your distance. Old man here and it takes time to get it right.
That's a good looking setup for the steel targets!! The legs will get a lot of shrapnel if you shoot larger calibers. They should last a lot longer than targets hung on a chain.
welding different lengths of flat bar or angle iron on the back of those plates would muffle the ding , more or less accordingly Ringworm is the sickest place!
Ryan....I think you need to buy at least one box of exploding targets. Should be able to peel and stick them on the steel targets. That would be cool. 👍👍👍😎😎
The cheapest ammo I know about is from Cheaper than Dirt. I bought some 9mm and you could see fire coming out the barrel with every shot. I think they used black powder or something close to it. They also have some special 22 rounds like they explode on impact. Don’t know if they still carry them. That was forty years ago I bought them. On the cheap stuff you will just have to clean your gun a lot more. Later
Nice gun range Ryan …. I like that new hand gun … I have a KELTEC.22 mag that’s pretty bad ass … but the ammo is more expensive then a .22 …. I think I’m gonna order that one you have .
Have you considered archery? I grew up in Michigan on 100 acres mostly woods and went target shooting anytime I pleased. Great fun. I've recently started doing some recurve bow archery. I find it equally fun. Not cost fun after spending under $300. Samick Sage 30#
I loved my crossbow but now to old to pull the sucker back lol I liked the idea of when hungry or running for your life they can’t hear ya feeding your self or when your taking out something coming after you and yours.
You should make a cardboard template of a target and use it to paint something to aim at besides a plain plate..jus a suggestion..look forward every week to watch..my day doesnt start without watching the WORM...lol
My friend has targets set up at 3,5 and 8 hundred yards, he make them out of cross ties stack on top of each other, to shoot with his rifles 45/70, 30-06 ect the one at 800 yards has a hole as big as a 55 gallon drum shot out of it in the middle, he only she the one st 800 yards with his 45/70, he reloads his bullets himself.
Maybe you could use a cut piece of garden/rubber hose on your lag bolts to insulate the shock rather than the expensive Springs? It won’t last forever, but it would probably last a while and be easy to change particularly if you slice it up the side then duct tape it 🤷♂️
Another cheap option for targets, go to your local bowling alley and ask about their unusable bowling pins. We use them at our farm and they hold up great against a .22. Just tie them up with some 550 cord. But 9mm, .40 pistol plinking ammo will tear them up faster.
Could you stack all the left over logs / bits of un-needed wood on the hill to increase the height of the hill, in case high shots go over the targets. At least that would tidy up the property and put them to good use.
To think I tossed & turned all night sleepless & could have been entertained by some Yooper in da woods shooting stuff. Go up to the rail yard in Trout Lake & ask for a couple of old tie plates to shoot at. They work great too. Keanu Reeves should cycle out for a shooting challenge there at Ringworm! 😂
If the hardware on your target gets beat up you could drill a hole through the middle of the target plate and mount it that way instead. Then the plate will protect the hardware.
Do it with the plate up like Tito and Sara said but see if you can make branch arms coming off the body of the stand and then put a plate on each arm coming off then call it your forest monster.
It's called inflation Malik. It has been around as long as I have been alive. I remember flipping burgers for $1.35 an hour and buying gas for .19¢ a gallon. Ammo prices are not immune to inflationary pressure.
Soon you are going to have the northern Michigan militia looking for your location; BATF will be right behind them too. You’d better get a gun safe to secure your weapons.
Are you allowed to own a suppressor where you are? Adding a suppressor to your pistol will lower the Db enough to not need ear protection and can make shooting even more fun.
You think you are having fun now, get a suppressor for that 22. I can see you are getting hooked, just waiting for you to get a crossbow, then put in a sporting clays course. Let the addiction begin. 🤣🤣🤣
If a 30 30 is leaving a dent it's not good AR 500 steel. It's all about the heat treatments to harden the steel properly. The real brands probably hold up better. All the cheap steel targets I've purchased online only last for maybe 6 to 10 range trips with 223/556 rifle rounds. With 22 LR and 9mm you should be good for a long time!
Me and some buddies were out shooting some metal targets and mind you all of our ammo was metal jacketed and we had been there for about a half a day when we decided to do some speed shooting our 1911s from about 25ft and all went well and a buddy thought he got stung by a bee in his arm oh he was also special forces well I look at him and say Dude your bleeding , part of the metal jacket is stuck in the coat arm and there's a 1/2 inch hole in his are and yes he sowed it up and we continued . Moral of the story is always have a needle and thread, Sorry for the long sentence 😆 😆
wanted to tell you... you dont need a 50 cal....but since you like handguns... a great one is a 10mm glock.....you can plink...but also great for self defense and they are side arms for bear hunting....anything you see in michigan you can defend yourself with it. they are a blast to shoot...trust me. or another option is a Kel tech Pmr 30...22mag.. but the pistol holds 30 rounds... and its a 22mag.....
find a place to build a pond to collect water n get you some dynomite. By now you should know where the best flow is or that collects the most water. So you could mess with the explosives and do something practical that you need anyway a good source of water.

22 is my favorite caliber as well. I have 3 rifles and a pistol 😂. Awesome range.

You forgot to mention the joy you feel in the fantasy of killing.
@@DaveMartin-co8et nah, just paper and metal targets man.
Love shooting steel challenge, build yourself a light weight 10/22, it's a blast also.
You shoot like a professional nice rock solid stance well done plus another great video
Nice to see you having fun planning your shooting range, boys with there toys
Great idea for the target tripods.
31:16 when you said "That's how you know a real craftsmen did it." Got to admit, I was disappointed you did get the router out and tidy up those edges. 😉
Ryan you are reminding me fun is good!
Love the shooting range man
Hi Ryan shooting range looking good love the video as usually

If you want the blaze orange paint to cover better, paint with a base of white.
Ryan go for it I know you can do it !!!
What about a length of stockade fence along the top of the bank in between the range and the cabin to give a bit more stray shot protection?
I like your mountain man ingenuity!

You should have painted the targets yellow with various smiley faces on them!!!
You should have suggested multi-colored faces to be more inclusive. 😜Limiting the faces to a single color might get boring. 😝😂😝😂😝

Nice job, I'm envious, shoot it up ,ringworm plinkster
Your next channel - TAPEWORM RANGE!!!! If it requires a 12-inch target, just go to a 6-inch target at the same distance and that would doubles your distance. Old man here and it takes time to get it right.

Released early. I'll watch now and tomorrow during breakfast.
I wish I had your self-control ! 😜
I have none. Lol
welding different lengths of flat bar or angle iron on the back of those plates would muffle the ding , more or less accordingly
Ringworm is the sickest place!
Mornin..👋😎👍
You can also weld a little spalding sheild arround the bolt
7 hours too early. You are killing it 😂😊❤

next should a be a in-treee tragets shooting range for rifle shooting from on topp 15 ft deck and turn it to a walled tower would be crazy

granted drilling through that AR wont be fun
Set up some lights and make some glo in the dark targets for some night missions
Do it with the plate up like Tito and Sara said but see if you can make branch arms coming off the body of the stand and then put a plate on each arm coming off then call it your forest monster.
You should set up a camera off to the side of one of the targets and play it back in slow motion to. Watch the splatter of the lead.
That was fun. Now let's cut some wood.
Thanks for the video Ryan !

16:38 put a second counter thread nut on that way you lock everything down makeing it imposible to move
Ammo prices have skyrocketed. I remember buying 22LR for like a penny a round in bulk.
It's called inflation Malik. It has been around as long as I have been alive. I remember flipping burgers for $1.35 an hour and buying gas for .19¢ a gallon. Ammo prices are not immune to inflationary pressure.

Ever thought about playing jingle bells on your targets just a thought for a Christmas special 😂❤
Friday night video 🏝🌋🌊Aloha!
You should make some "Tiffanys" you know like, "the Men in Black" and some monsters! That would be great to detour trespassers at night.
Are you allowed to own a suppressor where you are? Adding a suppressor to your pistol will lower the Db enough to not need ear protection and can make shooting even more fun.
Check out the Norma ammo, it’s lubed like the m22 ammo, but it runs like a scaled cat in my Sig 322.
can you take down a tree by firing enough shots to the area that you would normally use the chain saw?
With the tripod targets why not put the steel plates to the side so you won't hit the log if you miss high?
Ryan, I could see you reloading your own ammo.
Shoutout time,
4 wheeler shoot n go! RANGE
Stickman target stand, not bad
Screen porch and puppy/puppies?
Usually you can smell the burnt when the drill driver goes !
Are you going to make a backstop.

AGUILA 22 lr is what i shoot never had an issue with it in my ruger 10-22 about .05 cents each
Awesome... : )
Just like that old song used to say bang you're gong get it on
At least 100 yards for hi powered rifle or magnum load. Tares up the plates if closer than that.
Rifle rated steel?
Hello I just want to say I really hope your wife and mother have a wonderful MOTHERS DAY Rosa olbera from Texas
wanted to tell you... you dont need a 50 cal....but since you like handguns... a great one is a 10mm glock.....you can plink...but also great for self defense and they are side arms for bear hunting....anything you see in michigan you can defend yourself with it. they are a blast to shoot...trust me. or another option is a Kel tech Pmr 30...22mag.. but the pistol holds 30 rounds... and its a 22mag.....
Woo Hoo!!!
find a place to build a pond to collect water n get you some dynomite. By now you should know where the best flow is or that collects the most water. So you could mess with the explosives and do something practical that you need anyway a good source of water.
I keep thinking dynamite is going to be his next project. 😂
For starters, if your going to be shooting steel you should be shooting frangible ammo for anything over .22.
New target, gulf balls . Ballons, U can adjust the size.
So nobody else has anything to do but watch this video at 1 o’clock in the morning huh?
There were certainly other things we could have done. Watching the latest from Ringworm was the best option at the time. 😆
Lol. Could even build a short parapet at the end
Ryan you need a Henry 4570 either in the brass or all-weather finish it's pretty stout rifle it's about the same size as your 3030 but packs a little bit more punch you would fall in love with it
The best .22 .22 mg ammo is federal … federal has a 50grn bullet for .22 mag that flys fast and straight … amazing… .22 has a 45 grain I believe… heavy is better … they fly straighter then lighter rounds .
Is this another Friday night accident?
I'm wondering the same. 😝
Well it did upload at midnight for me where I am 😂😂
Don't use centerfire firearms on .22 steel. It will eventually buckle. Look up .22 cal silhouette targets.
Those gongs are cut with laser.
Plasma would be my guess.
Chainsaw Shooting Range!
every spring and fall, I look at how much woodchip and stump you have laying around and wonder, .."how much of that has he impregnated with mushroom spawn?". Yeah brother. your own fungal forest? hm. saprophytic's.
Ryan don’t forget your cabin. Down range from your shooting range 👍
Shoot even faster if you added a bear
