But yeah true stories… ppl have ripped off my LinkedIn resume and also my essays (down to the minute structures) and claimed it as their own!
It can be tempting to copy someone’s essay you admire because there’s a great form or structure or word play/choice that you just love. But let me tell u a secret… it’s never gonna quite work bc it’s not YOU! It has to come from your bones, your deepest part of your heart. You can certainly pay homage to great works of art and pay tribute in your writing, but the more original your essay is, the bigger potential of your essay touching your reader’s heart!! Originality and specificity make the experience of reading your essay that much more personal, and ironically, universal (aka I can relate to you even though the details of your situation are drastically different than mine)
So don’t copy, don’t use AI (which is just a copying machine) and learn how to discover your true voice. Break the mold. Be creative! That’s how you stand out.
