Well, this is bittersweet news. Bitter: "Oh, shit, over a year?!?!" Sweet: "Good, It's only a little over a year untill awesomeness and not something lame like three."
Holy fucking shit!!! O.o Sorry about that, but this wasn't even my full reaction. That was absolutely awesome!!! Thank you for this great piece of work!! You gave me strenght to continue to learn modelling!
Well, Tomato Branch is a 3D tracker. I just followed a tutorial from Sebastian König on Vimeo or/and BlenderCookie, There's also one on BlenderGuru wich is probably better because it's done on the latest version.
This is really fab but wouldn't it be more fun to do the virtual sequences in SecondLife? You could track the shots and it would be real-time with avatar actors = more fun and company!
If I remember well, once everything was done I created a new scene (Full copy). I placed the reflective object (The ground, with a Fully reflective material) in its own layer. In the layers panel, I created a new renderlayer to render only the layer with the reflective objects. Now if you activate all layers, your render will only be the reflections. You can composite it on top of your render in your first scene using a new renderlayer node, choosing the right scene and right render layer.
@larmannjan Hi, for the dust effect, I made a tutorial (Blender 3D compositing tutorial : Dirty screen, stains effect on my channel) For the hologram, I have uploaded the Blend file, I guess it's better than a screenshot ;) the link is in the description (I think you were talking about the "Call a taxi" sign, unfortunately I have saved over it by other holograms you see on the video, But it's the same set up).
This is awesome. I'm more of a compositor guy than anything else and because most of this was a compositing job, I'm really impressed by the project. There are a few things I would improve on but not because you did anything "wrong" but because I'm very fussy and have my own preferences. On the whole, this is a great display, well done!
@Katana2040 You can see how I did on the "breakdown part 2" from 10:23. Also, If you are interested in flares, there this a really cool tutorial to create anamorphic lens flares on austinfam7 's youtube channel, worth whatching ;)
Are you able to show a screenshot of how you did the heat effect?(defrabulation) I'd really love to do the same for my Gyrocopter. It's in my blender artist's post. /forum/showthread.php?260272-My-finnished-Gyrocopter
@MaghoxFr Thanks ! And undoubtedly, as the Mango project keeps going and the community keep being so productive, Blender hasn't finish to amaze us with live footage work and possibilities. Can't wait for Mango.
@SeekTheStars I'm recording a breackdown and I think I will make a tutorial for some of the effects here, I'll upload it as soon as possible, when my wild english talking is mastered, it's like a melee fight for ears :O
If you want to see how it's done, you can see this in this video : /watch?v=q9HDHxaQyJ4 (Sad future : the compositing) to about 6:15 . Great model btw :) I hope this will help ;)
@killerriot22 Thanks :), this effect is done in the compositer, I made a tutorial, on my channel, if you want to see. It's called "Blender 3D compositing tutorial : Dirty screen, stains effect."
hey man i really loved your work am working on my graduation project now and i want to have that good results but i dont think i will am not using blender i use ...3ds max maya after effects and boujou with there plug-ins so should i get blender and buy tutorials and start again or what do you think..thanks and gr8 video sorry for my english
I'm glad that making this stuff in Blender is possible, and it is sitting right in front of me, on my computer. My skills are the only thing in the way of my imagination. Great work! I enjoyed it, and most especially with the making-of. Thanks again for the inspiration! :)
THis is one of the best videos I've seen of compositing live footage in blender. Just awesome and it really encourages me to start using blender for this and substitute AE as I really want to fully migrate my workflow to linux. Amazing work mate.
Fantastic job. Are these camera features going to be apart of the official Blender software? If it, it should be. I don't like downloadiing "builds" because I can't remember which file is the normal blender or the build blender. haha
I have a little question that may require a big answer. How did you get the dusty/wet lens effect done in the composit nodes? I have been trying it for days myself. Couldn't find a good solution for it. How did you do it?
OMFG !!! If U need help for the movie, u can ask me..Am nt so fluent in blender but can greatly help for texturing and modeling basic stuffs :D fuk man..people will be pissd when they will see what free software can do :D
Dear Mr. Walks, my question to you is this: How long did it take you to learn these skills? was it between 6-12 months, or did it take longer, like 2 years? (I downloaded Blender recently)
I'd love to see a blend with just the composite nodes, or screenshots of all the different node sections. Er technically a breakdown of all the pieces would be the best :) Seriously great work!
I made a video in which I show how I made this effect. ("Sad Future : The compositing" on my channel, flares are shown at 10 minutes and 20 secs), but it's not really a tutorial. There is a tutorial on a similar effect on austinfam7 's channel called "How to create a Anamorphic Lens Flare in Blender 2.61", This is maybe a better way to.
Excellent work, subscribed to your channel as I'm now very interesting in seeing more out of you :). The piece kind of looked like Blade Runner or something out of Heavy Metal. Good work.
Fantastic work, my friend. May I ask how you did the lens flare/glares? I've been trying to find a good solution in Blender, but yours are the best I've seen. Thanks again for sharing.
@TomWalks will you cover the dirty/wet lens effect in the tutorial? I'd love to know how you did it, because I am trying to make a movie entirely out of free software.
How good were you're tracks? 0.500? And did you use all your camera data for camera reconstruction? For example the sensor width and the camera's vocal length. :P
As crazy as it sounds, I still don't have a blenderartists account, but if you want to talk i'm ready to hear, is your future project on blenderartists ? ;)
Hi Tom, I have a question. Do you know a way to composite reflections? I searched the web and experimented, but nothing gave the right result. Thanks ;)
Would be highly appreciated : A tutorial on tomato's camera tracker, because it got me quite frustrated and in the end i moved to Syntheyes camera tracker, still i would be more happy just to stick with blender's tracker..
Your creepy parasite gave me the chills - awesome work. Love your space station too, looking for one like that with lots of bustling activity, ships etc
Really would like to be at this level soon D: this is just amazing.
***** damn son
Oh man, THIS is what Blender is capable of? Hell yea.
Well, this is bittersweet news.
Bitter: "Oh, shit, over a year?!?!"
Sweet: "Good, It's only a little over a year untill awesomeness and not something lame like three."
This is so awesome. Love the universe you've created. Would be awesome to see a short film taking place in it. How long have you been doing 3D?
DAMN! THIS IS AWESOME! GOOOOOOOOOD JOB TOM! JUST WOW!
@TomWalks Right on, man! Thanks! I'll check that out! Keep up the good work!
Holy fucking shit!!! O.o Sorry about that, but this wasn't even my full reaction. That was absolutely awesome!!! Thank you for this great piece of work!! You gave me strenght to continue to learn modelling!
Wow this is really good. It almost looks real ;).
so much knowledge, i wish i could do that, i can not deal with nodes... =/
Oh boy!!! this awesome!!!
Well, Tomato Branch is a 3D tracker. I just followed a tutorial from Sebastian König on Vimeo or/and BlenderCookie, There's also one on BlenderGuru wich is probably better because it's done on the latest version.

Vraiment trop exellent !!
Nice. Some of this had a real Blade Runner feel to it.
looks great, i like it!
Nice Job! This is great work!
Wow! How did you learn to do this? Can you recommend special tutorials? And did you recreate the 3d scene or can blender do this automatically?
very interesting video. Have you got the track, match, blend DVD yet? You'll be a master alpha beast once you master it.
Great work!
A quand un film mon ami ? A quand... tu es doué, tu possède un univers propre. Un mélange de blade runner bravo !

Brad

I've been wanting to try the the camera tracking feature for a while now; sadly I don't have a very good camera.

2:50 Şurada çalan müzik, Kurtlar Vadisi müziğine ne kadar benziyor.
By the way, your work with the blender is great, congratulations.

@mediestuen Thanks, I began playing with 3D last year, late July, so around 1 year and 3 or 4 month, intensively.

Thanks ;)
wow! You know I was really impressed with your space oddity film from way back, but wow, this is awesome! Glad to see someone stick with it.
Would be highly appreciated : A tutorial on tomato's camera tracker, because it got me quite frustrated and in the end i moved to Syntheyes camera tracker, still i would be more happy just to stick with blender's tracker..
Awesome! I've been playing around with Blender for years now, but didn't got into that much my skill isn't going anywhere. Any advice?
so awesome - I feel you're almost ready to make a short movie - just find a decent script (maybe scrabble into PK Dick shorts) and go!
When I did this it was about a little more than a year after I began playing with Blender.
Wow... Mind blown, man... mind blown.
Now I'm inspired to learn more about the compositor.
great, simply amazing :D
how did you get the rain/ wet lens effect?
have a transparent plane in front of the camera?
Thank you Tom, after years of neglecting my passion for visual effects, i am ready to begin again with blender.
I've just put my 3D objects over the video, by default it hides everything behind.
could you do a tutorial, step by step of how you did this? Thanks i'm really inspired by your videos! Thank You.
Do you have a blenderartists account? I'd like to get a chance to talk to you about a possible future project.
brilliant . just like a list films in the 1990's and better than todays B listed films
you have great skills ,well done, i didnt get bored watching ,
Your creepy parasite gave me the chills - awesome work. Love your space station too, looking for one like that with lots of bustling activity, ships etc
SO AAMAZINGGG bettter than blade runner :D
Amazing work, really blown away with the quality of images and effects, like watching a high budget film.
Great, absolutley great stuff! Do you collaborate with people? I've been interested in doing a sci fi web series.
Incredible Blender work. If you ever decide to do a green screen tutorial I'm there. Thanks for posting.
Awesome, man!
How nice! Blender 2.6 has the render result as node editor background??
Ace
So, did you use the default renderer in blender? I can't imagine cycles renderer, it takes too long.
*gasp* D6!!!!!!!!!
I really love your work ! It's outstanding !
Great videos ! Thank you for sharing it !!
@multimediahelp1 I'd say probably from 0.3 to 0.8, it depends. And yes, I used the camera data, It really helps getting a better tracking.
Is there a tutorial on how to do some thing similar and i have a crappy camera
nice video this is super dope can i use the clips for my new beat i will give u credit on my channel
No what? You're awesome! The is the best Blender VFX scene i've ever seen!
You are very talented. how many years do it take to do a "short" movie :-).
Im visual artist, and this is amazing, dude. excelent job!! i love it!!!
wow you realy deserve more views then 8000 you deserve atleast 1000000 :/
i recall that there was a tutorial un hoiw to make the drink ad at 0:20 in the background. where did it go? do you use twitter?
It is really amazing! Flare effect is particularly good
Yes, it was rendered with blender's internal renderer.
Can't find words to say what this is...AMAZING is still far from this!!!
This is AWESOME. Thanks for the effort of breaking it down and sharing!
i`m still dealing on how to integrate 3d objects in the scene and making it look like they were "real"
I guess you are looking for a place in Mango :) Send them this video!
@PgunMan Quand le temps sera venu, quand le temps sera venu. Merci mec :D
That was cool and the music was great with it! Amazing!
Excellent Work, makes my motion tracking look like garbage, lol.
this is amazing , simply you are a pro compositor sir ! Salute
wait, did blender automatically recreate the scene in 3d? 0_0
OMG! awesome. Where do you find the time...
love it, very nice!
It would be cool, but no, I did it all myself.
Stunning. I love the spotlight on the apartment block.
This video reminds me of Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Blender and their users at their best
I have no words... This is awesome! I'm shocked!
I hope your doing this for a living! wow!
Ncan you make a tutorial on the tv screen thing?
Looks like a better version of Kane and Lynch 2
Now I want to hug that robot and take it home.
@TomWalks Thanks man. and again great work.
