Anchorage, Alaska Earthquake Caught on Cam - Lake Hood Sea Plane Base

- The 4.8 magnitude earthquake was centered 9 miles north of Anchorage, at a depth of 26 miles (Alaska Earthquake Center). This quake is actually an aftershock of the 2018 earthquake, a magnitude 7.1. There have been more than 11,000 aftershocks since that November 30, 2018 event. Our Streamtime Live camera had quite the shake!
I was in the Loma Prieta 7.1 earthquake back in 1989. I was home alone and a kid. I’ll never forget the ground just rolling underneath my feet! Hello from California!
We had breakers in the swimming pool . Lucky for me it was late on a Friday afternoon but a buddy of mine was caught on the Bay bridge on his way into San Francisco. He made it in but couldn’t get back out.
That certainly was a trip. I'll never forget it!!
@Sarah Lynn..
me too..my son was 4, we watched the carport cement roll like Jello! He was calmer than I was.
We were in San Mateo, Ca. then.
@@michaelsaxton1606 WOW, talk about "timing"
@@joywest8411 In Merced 100+ miles away from the bay it felt like we were riding a wave. A friend was outside and saw the wave go down the street.
For those questioning why they did not see other movement. The typical frame rate, capture, of the cameras used like this do not see the quick motion of things shaking unless the movement is significant. This was a relatively mild shake. I most certainly felt it and so did my house.
Trees didn't move at all.
If it weren't for the shaking camera, I could've seen clearly the earthquake occurring.
It must have developed a "fault'.
Hahahahaha, LoL--Really?!! mebbe.
The camera moving is from the earthquake
A couple of nice little jolts from the P waves, followed by gentler rolling from the S waves. Perfect little demonstration of earthquake geomechanics
The old 'break and shake'.
I've been in earthquakes in Japan, Calif and Alaska. Japan has the worst. Although Calif and Alaska are right behind. Alaska seems to be getting quite a few recently.
There were two quakes about 20 or so minutes apart. One near Cordova (Too far away for me to feel, M4.2) and this one which was 50-ish miles away from me and it rattled my cabinet doors, building creaked and popped and my TV nearly fell over.
Go to the Dollar Store and start stocking up on Velcro.. 😒
We got earthquake just a minute ago in India.. 3 in a row

I didn’t even see any trees move. It looked like the person making this video just shook the camera.
Dude nobody has the camera, this was a live stream of a lake and the earthquake interrupted it
@@purewurqh130 ok. Thanks for the clarification.
I was a we lad on March 2th in Anchorage. Was a Good Friday when the quake hit. 9.3. You could not stand and the sound the earth made was deafening. 1000’s of aftershocks. Thank God the tidal wave was reduced traveling up Cook Inlet or our house on Chester Creek would have been lost. Few have lived thru such a powerful earthquake. Blessed to have been there.
27th.
I remember it ..I was a kid too. In Minnesota. I was asking my dad if we got those so afraid. I was so sad abt the kids and dogs at the wharf. Glad you made it.
@@mollylittlewolf9192 Hi Molly.. we did ok.. it had just started to snow. My older brother and I were walking back from the 4th avenue movie theater. Got home but Dad drove into town to get us. He ended up helping people out of homes badly damaged all the time not knowing we were home. My little brother was 8 days old! My parents were so strong and in control we kids never worried in the devastation. Learned when people are in a disaster we all pull together. Too bad we don’t do that in good times!
@@radarnj8043 absolutely. Our parents were super to us. My dad was Peace officer back then. He was my hero.
@@mollylittlewolf9192 no peace in the town without him!
You call that an earthquake? That's what 99% of all the videos on UA-cam look like!
Wrong, this was filmed in landscape.
I rode out a 6.7 (I think) on the top floor of my building in Chengdu. I saw concrete wave like water, don’t care to see it again.
Was stationed in Japan in base housing. Their condos would literally sway from side to side. Scary!!!!!!!!
Wow! That was wild! Hope everyone's ok.
I slept through it. I sleep through anything smaller than a 5.5
We're fine!
I just seem to build card houses at the wrong place at the wrong time!
I was out in the yard cleaning up from breakup season when that one hit. It was a good shaker, everyone just paused then went back to what they were doing.
I lived in Alaska 37 years, always enjoyed a good shaker...
I had a similar experience at ANC airport. Im from the Midwest, so it felt like I was in the twilight zone lol
Really, I think the camera mount just needs a little grease!
I know I heard it and felt it!
I fell out of the top bunk it rolled me right out of bed in the northridge quake
I am more curious about those ominous lights in the sky
Looks like reflections from sun off the snow/ice on the mountain side
Its reflections off of houses on the upper hillside.
I was inside the Silvertip Lodges gas shack at Lake Hood when a 4.8 quake occurred in June 1979. It's the only quake I've experienced. That gas shack bounced around pretty good, maybe because it had no foundation. It just sat on top of the gravel a few feet from the lake. Three Californians were also there and never even paused their conversation!
A 6.1 earthquake hit us just now here in Northeast India.
I hope everyone is safe
Awesome👀 Thank you for sharing
I was I the middle of praying when it happened, I stopped for a second, than thought no I'm doing the best thin and kept praying through it
That was God telling you to quit asking for free crap.
I was praying for God to bless you protect you and provide for you today💕
Alaska is in the Ring of Fire that circles the Pacific Ocean and is on the subduction zone where the tectonic plates meet.
I was in Biglake(about 12 miles from Point Mac)(the epicenter)when it happened. I was parked with the motor running and it felt like I got hit by another vehicle at one point. It shook pretty good
I'm so sorry u went thru that! Scary!
That wasn't an Earthquake, more like a tremor or aftershock.
I was in fairbanks. Slept through it... 😂
I'm in New Jersey, didn't feel a thing.
Didn't even disturb the water! You sure it wasn't somebody bumping the camera pole?
Lake Hood won’t thaw for about another month. That’s ice.
That is odd, I didn't hear and rumble no ice cracked no trees moved, just the camera.
Just shake your camera and then tell people that it's the view of an earthquake.
Do you actually think all people are that ridiculous? Us folks in Anchorage felt it.
Just another morning up here🤣
See the lights in the sky like ufos
I fly out of here daily it’s just the white caps on the mountains😂 I wish tho
All I know is that I sold my home in North Eagle River about 16 months before that 7.1 Nov'18 quake hit. as that was the epicenter of it.
I was working from home and happened to be on a phone call at the time this earthquake happened. I used some very colorful words during the call at this time. I just moved to Alaska 8 months ago so I am still getting used to the entire house moving 🙃.
God is shaking the Heavens and the Earth. Jesus Christ is about to return... 🙏👑🕊️
What are those objects in the sky? UFO’s?
That is LIFE ON THE ROCK!! :-)
Good Friday, 1964 Earthquake, I was there
Ray Powell I was there also 1964 Anchorage.
@@speakwiththunder My father was the general Mgr of JC Penny. we lost everything. Forced to move to Georgia with family.
@@Drrayoldman we lived on 3rd Street in Anchorage. I'm so sorry to hear that you lost everything my father was with the Air Force there he was a chief Master Sergeant and he was one of the people that was sent in to examine the JCPenney building
I don't know about you but I still get nervous when something is moving and I cannot put my finger on it
Me too! Where were you when it hit? I was downtown with my Dad.
Can you imagine plucking a guitar string and having it vibrate for 2+ years? That is sustain that Fender and Gibson have wet dreams over.
How is it that the earthquake shook the camera but not any trees or bushes?
Anyone else notice the light's or whatever it is in the sky
they are house lights on foggy hillside
I remember the initial November 30, 2018 quake quite well, one of the scariest days of my life. The aftershocks only add to the metal distress.
And yet here on the peninsula I didn't feel it
I'm up in Anchorage, too. It's amazing what you get used to. Anything under a 5.0 and I'll check to see if my cat jumped up on the bed. Otherwise I just ignore it.
I was in downtown Anchorage with my Dad when the 1964 Good Friday quake occurred. Quakes such as the one shown in the video don't bother me at all.
Sorry to hear that for Alaskans and State of Alaska . Deeply sorry.
That was an earthquake? I have felt the ground shake more when a freight train goes by.
So... There was a guy shaking the camera pole? Could here his shoes crunching on the ground....
Looks like the cameraman is shaking and not earthquake. Don’t see the poles or trees swaying!
I'm not sure what to think. The whole ground is shaking but the cars are still driving like nothing is happening? No-one stopped. What is up with that?
It is said it's harder to recognize earthquakes while you're rolling on rubber tires in an auto; the smaller quakes like this one anyway.
A car has these things called tires, shocks, springs, and struts. 🤣
What earthquake? All I saw was a shaky camera!
Northridge California. This was mild one.
We also had in Assam ,India earlier in morning today 3am IST so are we on a same plate ?
OH MY GOD!! That was awesome!!
Amazing! A lot of panic there!
A little detail would have been nice.
I was at home in the MatSu valley when it hit. Shook my house pretty good for a few seconds then we felt a fee rolls butno damage or anything like that.
After further investigation it was determined there was no earthquake. Chuck Norris had indigestion.
Haha!
Very good 👍 subscribed
Omg so scary for all
Someone time stamp the earthquake and get back to me, to much wind shaking the camera.
The trees didn't even shake???
After 1 year there I left 1 week before it happened. I slept thru one in that year.
I’m moving to Alaska this is something to look forward to 😅😅😑😑😑
I live in ak . Its really nothing.
Wow! Yikes. I sub to this channel but I wasn’t watching at the time. Take care, everyone up around Ft Hood Seaplanes and Ted Stevens too!
Cool. Was it very noticeable to people who actually were in the area?
Yes, @turbofanlover, it was! One of the locals alerted the chat that it was an earthquake, we just assumed the cam got caught in some weird high winds
Yes, we had some chatters in Anchorage, they reported that the earthquake came on pretty suddenly.
Ah. Thanks for the info, all. :)
If I hadn't come across this video I never would have known. 40 years up here so I am alert for such things. I am in Wasilla just across the inlet from Anchorage.
Odd trees aren't shaking
That will break up the ice! Rock & Roll
LMAO!
Ice is sitting on water and water moves and absorbs.
Yeah u get more in san Francisco but that is something.
What was the # on the richter scale?😳
The planet is trying to shake us off before we damage it any further.
2 years later quake in alaska
Wow!!! 😥
The horror, the horror.
Dutch was right ...
I must have been asleep
Lively.
I wasn't moving and never felt it. Outside
I experienced the 1964 Alaska quake (9.2). I can see why this one didn't shake a lot. 9.2 and it gets busy.
I am in india and I can feel it here
Me too brother.. from Assam
Did it manage to straighten the Significant horizontal slant the camera has when looking at Ted Stevens International Airport? Now Spring is on the way when is this 'slant' due to be corrected as its been like this since 6th March 2021 on installation.
I found most buildings are painted in dark color.
This aliens in the sky? The white lights?
That's why not one tree moved???
Well if I'm face to face with you and we both move three feet my right your left are we still face to face? Also to that point is the earth moving right now spinning in space, do you see that moving?
Are we in sync 🤣
Late last week I thought we were having an earthquake but it was just my neighbor sitting down.
I had a similar experience in New Jersey yesterday. Heavy shaking and glass rattling but it turns out it was just Chris Christie sitting down on his beach chair at the Jersey Shore.. 🤔
People still driving
Wasn't too bad here on the east side of town. Now that 7.1 was a different story.
You should have experienced the 1964 quake. That one is unforgettable!
@@vickimeyers2672 Oh,I bet. Friends have told me.
Any report on the strength?
4.8, it's in the video description.
Funny how the trees dont move lol
I was at ANC airport. Felt a low roll/rumble and heard the building creak. I got up to leave and then the big jolt hit. But then it died down and we boarded our flight 10 minutes later like nothing happened.
Its interesting that only the camera was shaking but the building, tree's and road traffic were completely unaffected by the so called earthquake.
Maybe next time there will be mass destruction a thousands of casualties for your entertainment.
Or maybe next time the video will just be honest and say vintage video of older Russian aircraft takeoffs, landings and some in-flight maneuvers, but thanks for your concern.
@@misterflibble6601 Suggest you check the Alaskan earthquake monitoring department of Emergency Management. Seems like they have no record of this at all. I use to work for them so don't try an BS someone who knows it only makes you look silly.
Wow
Yikes!!!
Funny that the trees didn't move through any of it. Nor was there any disturbance in the traffic on the highway or even any snow flurrying because of it. Funny. Hmmmmmm.
This gave me an idea for UA-cam views.....I'm just gonna shake the camera and title my videos, Earthquake Caught On Camera.
i think it´s fake, the only thing that shook was the camera. everything else is calm
Believe me it was NOT fake. A nice shake it was. I live in Anchorage.
Agreed, this was not fake! Definitely woke me up from my sleep! I also live in Anchorage
I don’t like earthquakes
Uh....nothing
Well that was a waste of time
Heyyyyy this was on the morning of my birthday! I woke up minutes before it happened.. broke my 60in TV and ruined the whole day, my own family was so scared they forgot it was my bday 👍
Who all think that it is real?? Coz I doubt!
Tony Knowles I need $50,000,000
I was in Anchorage two weeks ago, in the hotel, and I felt this too lol.
Hilarious
It was Bigfoot shaking the post
