Music is very humbling. My ego is destroyed constantly. Sometimes I almost regret 'wasting' so much time on it because I make the mistake of comparing myself to others. This style of video is really good therapy and a highly overlooked necessity for people trying to improve.
Thanks for sharing. Music is amazing! Make us so humble. Drop all prides & opinions is better. Guitar has no opinions! You can make it sweet tone & start conversation. Mistakes on music is new chance of possibilities.
Just want to relay this message from a beginner in his 40s. I started playing guitar in November and it has done wonders for my confidence. For whatever reason I never thought I could play an instrument or learn music. For decades I talked myself out of learning till I finally challenged that assertion and yeah.. being wrong never felt so good. The joy learning guitar has brought me is hard to convey. I don't feel any shame or discouragement from not being able to play what I want immediately, those are just goals to chase. I've played every single day for the last two and half months, whether it's productive or efficient, I do not care. It makes me happy. Learning simple melodies and rhythm has meant the world to me. The first song I learned to play was Nutshell by Alice in Chains and it legitimately made me emotional. To be able to play something so meaningful to me after having convinced myself I'd never be able to learn music has significantly changed my perspective on what I can do in this life. Music is the most underrated, taken-for-granted thing on this Earth. I would recommend learning music to everyone and anyone. Don't stop yourself and don't let anyone stop you. There's no fault in ignorance just in complacency or subservience to it. Thank you Mr. Fujita for the excellent videos and for sharing your personal experience. You're an amazing teacher and your passion for music and guitar is absolutely contagious. 🙏
Playing guitar can help you go through anything. I moved schools around the same time the pandemic hit. I didn't have any friends to talk to and I was mostly alone. I started playing guitar around the same time and your videos helped me so much with chord progressions and techniques. Instead of feeling sad, I would play guitar. It's helped me so much in isolation. Now, I am obsessed with neosoul and mathrock and have formed a band. I have many friends who I've connected with through music. Thank you Tomo.
Don’t forget to enjoy yourself. The process, requires patience and love. I’m 67 and practicing jazz guitar has made me a better person, because a happy person is a kind person. Thank you Tomo! ❤

Hey Zac, I'm Zack and I just wanna tell you I was in the same or similar boat as you. I started playing guitar in high-school and by the end of high-school I basically had recorded 2 albums/E.P.s and my future was looking bright. Well I decided to make bad decisions and honestly I feel like it was important that made such poor decisions or else I would have never learned. I ended up homeless a few times and had to crawl my way out of my own grave. In all my years of drug use I always thought that they enhanced my guitar playing, but it really didn't a lot of the time. If your thinking about your next hit while your playing a solo it might not be working the way you intended. But anyways I'm clean and sober (aside from 420 of course) and have been making my absolute favorite music of my life so far this past year and I'm so excited to release it and I did it completely without any hard drugs involved. It is certainly harder for some people to cope without substances but what helped me was coming to a realization that it was either drugs or me, one or the other but I couldn't choose both. Anyways I would start meditating, praying, and thinking to yourself and perhaps out loud to God, she will guide you and grant you the creativity you desire. Sometimes when I have very little inspiration it's because there's something wrong emotionally with me that I need to take care of. And ask yourself when do you truly love playing guitar the MOST? Like what is your favorite aspect about the guitar/music? We gotta focus on those aspects instead.
You were not playing before. You were riffing- and it sounded good but you were clueless. You probably play "better" now- even if it does not sound as good for now. Check out Zombie Guitar too- Brian is a great teacher. I learn from many instructors- love Tomo, Brian and GuitarTricks too. Learn some theory and stay clean man- good job so far!
@@zacksguitarhacks6390 Stay off all drugs my man. These days even 420 gets laced with garbage and you are right back as an addict. You know what is really cool to get addicted to- as in I am a full on addict...nutrition and even some exercise. I can't get enough. It's no different really- it's just obsessing on one thing or another. I have better side effects though and far better labs! Try it- you might like it. Just change your obsession. Keep rocking!
Yes sir! This applies to so much beyond music, thank you for putting this out. I really believe that negative "self talk" is so dangerous. The mind is a garden and if you plant bad seeds (negative thoughts or self talk) then you grow bad fruit. Good thoughts = good seeds and yield good fruit. For anyone reading this, I hope you can embrace your goodness and push all the negative thoughts away. You are all wonderful people and we are all very lucky to be here. And we are also lucky to have Tomo! Thank you Tomo!!!
I tune in for a guitar lesson from a true music profesional and go away wiith a not just guitar lesson, but a smile and harmony in my soul. All my blessings and thanks Sir Tomo.
For someone like you to offer to take questions openly from anyone is incredible. You are a legend and I am so thankful to exist at the same time as you my friend.
It most certainly happens to all of us, and there is no exception. Being able to regain that passion and fire for music takes much effort, but for me, personally, it's one of those things that I will never abandon. Thank you for this strong message Tomo!
Sometimes when I lose confidence or inspiration I will take a short break from guitar....nothing too long, just a week or so. When I come back, I seem to have forgotten my limits and find myself appreciating my playing more. This has always been the method that works for me. Thanks for your insight Professor Tomo! You are a great teacher and person and your wisdom is always appreciated.
I just discovered this channel by coincidence, Thank you Mr Tomo for sharing this video, we really need this energy not just as musicians but as humans.
I am not good at guitar and can't do most things, but when I begin to lose confidence or become uninspired, I go back and relearn things I already 'know'. Sometimes, this helps me realize how far I've come, because I remember how hard something was to learn the first time and it also inspires me to take that thing and try new variations that I can build on.
Thanks for sharing! You don't need to do everything very well. Try to learn one thing really deeply. That's so important. You are awesome! Great passion so you can learn. Please don't worry at first. Everything is fine. We need FOUNDATION.
Prof Tomo, Thanks! I am so grateful that I found you. This video is special, especially your comment that “Your guitar just sits there - it does nothing - it is you that brings music to it”. Thanks again and Happy Thanksgiving!
My pleasure! So happy to hear that. Guitar is very mutual that guitar itself is nothing but a person can put that special feeling... then guitar is alive!
Your such a Gem. People like you make this world a better place. I enjoy all of your content and people will always be drawn to beautiful souls like yourself!
I once read a little book from Phillip Toshio Suddo called Zen Guitar, it had nothing to do with technique, theory scales but a persons state of mind. It had such great symbolic tales which you learn much from, things from daily life. The Zen state of mind is a holistic approach not only music. Thanks for speaking from your heart, very inspiring.
Don't worry! Don't compare! Don't expect too fast! Be kind to yourself! I really just wanna put a sticker like that on my strat so it'll remind me of what it means, Thank you again tomo for your wisdom!
Truly one of most masterful magicians I've had the good fortune to cross paths with. I now am humbled into submission again and inspired like nothing else to do good work!
Cassidy is right. It's nice for us to hear about you on a more personal basis. Your stories help explain your mottos. Don't Worry, be kind to yourself. Good advice for everyone but clearly from your own experience as well.
Yes you have to prepare and as long as you don't have too many disruptions to that preparation thing's will go well lack of preparation =lack of confidence
Excellent wisdom. I think your occasional laugh and chuckle speaks for itself- you don't take things so seriously, that it depresses you into inactivity. You choose the right profession as a teacher. Been through years of burnt out teachers that just want to go home and forget about connecting with a student. Thanks Tomo!
Becoming ever more gratefull for having YT introducing you into my (guitar-) life one auspicious day earlier this year. Thanks for giving so much of yourself. Your dedication is inspiring.

I couldn't ask for a better first to watch this morning. Thank you for all of these music and life lessons. Every video of yours I watch I feel better and play guitar better. You are such an important part of the guitar community!
Hi Tomo! Thank you thank you thank you for being transparent, open and honest. I gain much encouragement from listening to your guitar teaching videos and your talks on life lessons. Please continue to share your wisdom and shining light of positivity. Forever greatful
i still remember my very first days starting to take learning and playing seriously. the guitar felt so foreign to me and theory was a whole different language. when I am feeling particularly uninspired/loss of confidence I can think back to that initial learning period and weight it against where I am at now and really notice how much I have learned/ how far I have, and it helps a lot!
I hope you can get through it, you taught me a lot and also many other people! we all have times of doubt and lack of confidence in ourselves; It happens a lot to me as an aspiring musician trying to make it but I keep stoic and learn about everything I can. Thank you for all your wisdom Tomo!
Tomo, I strongly agree with you, I used to be very worried about not being able to play better and keep improving my musicality, but then after struggling for a while, I learned that my expection is too high, and I just waste so much time worrying rather than enjoying the music and the happiness of playing music. To live in the moment and slow down, concentrate on the present, is much more efficient to feel the music, to experience the emotion music generated and gradually building a firm and strong foundation is so important! Thanks for sharing and your positivity!
Thanks for sharing. We all burned out by high expectation. Once you know how to control this part. Life will be happier! And foundation part is so important in order to keep improving in years. You're welcome!
I'm a big fan of you and I don't care about your own perfectionism in your own head. You are already a special legend. Millions of beginners (I guess including professionals) like me start your guitar playing. You are guitar. Guitar is you. Forever.
Hi Tomo, you are a great human teacher. I try to play guitar and I listen carefully each video, guitar need a lot of work, music is so good for my life. Thank you so much Tomo. Great person thanks for this video. Jg France
Patience and practice - the practice of cultivating patience - makes a better person, a better life, and better art. It’s not easy to talk about these things. We feel self-conscious, if we’re thoughtful, about being preachy or feel we don’t have a right to impose our ideas on other people, or maybe that we will not be taken seriously or heard at all. These simple ideas go such a long way, however, at answering what sometimes seem to be very difficult problems. They help us to make peace with ourselves, to have better relationships, and to be more thoughtful and creative in the things we do. We need to take patience and practice (and striving to do better, as the goal of practice by means of patience) as seriously as life, and as lightly as life. They are not burdens, I mean, but rather the tools by which we make ourselves and our lives better. Thanks for taking the time to talk about this. Too often, music talk is all about the details but loses the pathways into all that detail. They assume people have already found their way or that people don’t easily get lost. It’s important to talk about these bigger-picture things that give us some grounding in how to be a good person - a good music person just being an instance of a person who finds ways to succeed in life. Sometimes we get good at one thing but fail to apply the patience and practice that got us there to other parts of life, which is still a mistake, but a correctable one. These lessons are very general, and necessary.
Thanks for sharing. Yes indeed, patience is so important! We can learn patience through practice guitar. We can learn so much other than guitar from guitar playing! Learn a circle of life! You're welcome!
Thank you for this video. Today was challenging with things out of my control. Your attitude and advice really helped me put things in perspective. I realize how much pressure I put on myself and that reflects everything around me. I appreciate your insight.
Thank you for posting this Mr. Fujita. I needed to hear a lot of the things you said, specifically "just play". We are indeed not perfect and it takes time to become the great people and guitar players that we want to be. ❤
Music never judges us , only brings us positive vibes, only human being put judgement on each other and bring too much ego beyond music and making think way too complicating!!!
Thank you so much for your words Mr. Tomo. For me guitar is just a hobby, but my real passion is photography, and lately I have been feeling very unconfident in my skills in photography. Your words resonate with my heart. Your advice not only applies to guitar or art, but to life.
You're very welcome. I love photography & cooking! I have so many photos! Guitar is my passion. We all have ups & downs. It comes all of sudden. So happy to hear that. Thank you!
Thank you Tomo! Great video and you have a nice way to think! When I'm practicing guitar and getting upset, I put my guitar away and listen to Jazz standards and sing the melody. Its another way to go foward and stay positive !!! Keep Rockin'!
You're very welcome! That's so happy to hear that. I used to feel so bad about my English skill. But I just do it! Better to speak than not say anything. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this! Your positive attitude is why I have chosen Guitar Wisdom over the many other excellent systems and learning opportunities. Please continue your talks they have been very encouraging to me! #guitarwisdom #TomoTruth
Amazing video...really amazing.it feels so good when people talk about personal life.We want a real human emotion and story no more social media fake happy reality
I like your honesty if we are to be honest anyone can lose confidence but if you're a musican your somehow expected to be cool funny charming charismatic and never have a bad day no one can live up to that the best way to deal with this is remember what you originally took up your instrument enjoyment and fun
So happy to hear that. Social media put too much perfect picture... and that could be dangerous message to young musicians. Looks like amazing touring with beautiful tour bus (renting & super expensive!) but people don't know other parts (downside!) Thanks for sharing!
Tomo-san...thanks for sharing your amazing wisdom and positivity once more. One key point, (@ 2:08) "how to use music to enhance your life" is so true and something to live by. Life is full of ups and downs and we all lose confidence from time to time. Your suggestions, 'be kind to yourself, don't expect too much' etc. are all very important. I would also add the idea of seeking support and inspiration from others. You alone can make changes, but you can't make changes alone. So many great thoughts and suggestions in this video. Again, thanks for sharing Tomo. 🙏👍

You’re an excellent teacher. You’re really involved in answering questions asked and I often see you responding to comments. I’m glad I came upon your channel Mr. Fujita
Hi, Tomo. We live in an imperfect world where much does not depend on ourselves. From this, every person has a lot of problems. By making ourselves more perfect and professional in any field, we form an appropriate environment and people around us for communication. However, even after that, every person remains alone with a huge number of questions, the answers to which he has been looking for all his life. The main thing at the same time is in agreement with ourselves and those who are ready to come to terms with our shortcomings, because life is always a compromise with ourselves, close people and, of course, constant hard work to achieve personal progress in the business we are engaged in.
Your human and a fantastic teacher. I am an older beginner, Trust me at first I thought, can I really do this?? Now I'm a year and a half in and I friggin Love it. I wish there were instructors here in my town like you. Keep up the AWESOME WORK! I still have to drop this I found you through Win IS Music .... your student LOL!!
I strongly regret putting the guitar down for close to 10 years. I started when I was about 9 and learned chords from a friend. Then we moved and other things happened before I decided to pick it up again in my 20's. All that lost time. I've been playing for my own enjoyment since. Sometimes I play something I couldn't play before or I find something new and it's really energizing. Like I reached a new plateau. Other times I think I'm in a serious rut or watch videos with countless players who are all technically way beyond anything I'll ever achieve, and wonder why I even bother anymore.
Thank you for sharing! To me, no regrets! I go for all positive way no matter what! We all have ups & downs. Short or long... Guitar is so much fun and so much rewarding and can learn about life. Simply amazing! I became so patient and so calm through guitar playing. Thank you so much!
@@TomoFujitaMusic Thank you! How did guitar playing foster patience and calmness for you instead of frustration at not being able to do what you wanted to do at that time?
You're very welcome! Definitely you need a little commitment and dedication for practicing guitar. Then a little later you will notice that you will become being patient and don't expect too fast. So good! Guitar can help other part of your life. No frustration anymore because you changed your thought process and format! music is not competitive which is what makes it great. lion does not try to be a bear, bird does not try to be giraffe. if you cannot play fast you can choose a few really good notes, still good art

For someone like you to offer to take questions openly from anyone is incredible. You are a legend and I am so thankful to exist at the same time as you my friend.
Thanks so much for your kind words. I love reading all these comments.
It most certainly happens to all of us, and there is no exception. Being able to regain that passion and fire for music takes much effort, but for me, personally, it's one of those things that I will never abandon. Thank you for this strong message Tomo!
Well said! Thanks so much!
Thank you so much!
Prof Tomo,
Thanks!
I am so grateful that I found you.
This video is special, especially your comment that
“Your guitar just sits there - it does nothing - it is you that brings music to it”.
Thanks again and Happy Thanksgiving!
My pleasure! So happy to hear that. Guitar is very mutual that guitar itself is nothing but a person can put that special feeling... then guitar is alive!
Your such a Gem. People like you make this world a better place. I enjoy all of your content and people will always be drawn to beautiful souls like yourself!

some people say the blues aint nothin but a good man feelin bad...crossroads quote.....good topic thanks
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing. You're very welcome!

Cassidy is right. It's nice for us to hear about you on a more personal basis. Your stories help explain your mottos. Don't Worry, be kind to yourself. Good advice for everyone but clearly from your own experience as well.
Cassidy is a great person! Thank you so much!
By the end of the video im almost crying... What a bliss be able to call you Teacher!!!
Thank you so much!
Yes you have to prepare and as long as you don't have too many disruptions to that preparation thing's will go well lack of preparation =lack of confidence

Expecting not too much is kind a most inportant thing.
Yes! I just expect a little above middle.
Thank you so much! Thank you for sharing! You're very welcome!
I watch your channel just because I love listening to you talk, even if I already know what you're teaching. Thank you.
Thank you so much!
Thank you Tomo !! Really loved your videos every week. Your words and ways of seeing life/music helped me!

Becoming ever more gratefull for having YT introducing you into my (guitar-) life one auspicious day earlier this year. Thanks for giving so much of yourself. Your dedication is inspiring.

What makes your videos/channel special is the simplicity and genuine touch that you give to it. Is good you want to improve it but do not change the vibes and become like the others pls. Nice weekend dear Sensei, thanks for your knowledge
Thank you so much! I love the simplicity. I always want to improve but not expecting to be number ONE!
I couldn't ask for a better first to watch this morning. Thank you for all of these music and life lessons. Every video of yours I watch I feel better and play guitar better. You are such an important part of the guitar community!
So happy to hear that. You're very welcome! Thank you!
Thank you Tomo san.
I like like talking time too.
Sometime,we forget important thing,at starting moment and foundation.
You're welcome! Yes!
Hi Tomo!
Thank you thank you thank you for being transparent, open and honest. I gain much encouragement from listening to your guitar teaching videos and your talks on life lessons.
Please continue to share your wisdom and shining light of positivity. Forever greatful
You're welcome! So happy to hear that. Thank you so much!
i still remember my very first days starting to take learning and playing seriously. the guitar felt so foreign to me and theory was a whole different language. when I am feeling particularly uninspired/loss of confidence I can think back to that initial learning period and weight it against where I am at now and really notice how much I have learned/ how far I have, and it helps a lot!
Thanks for sharing. Guitar playing is lifetime work, journey so please enjoy every moments!
The point of music is not to get to the end of the song, and playing guitar is not a sport, everyone.
- you seem like a good, authentic human being
Thanks for sharing! Guitar is so beautiful! Thank you!
I hope you can get through it, you taught me a lot and also many other people! we all have times of doubt and lack of confidence in ourselves; It happens a lot to me as an aspiring musician trying to make it but I keep stoic and learn about everything I can. Thank you for all your wisdom Tomo!
Thank you so much! Yes we all have and we can keep going forward with positive feeling. You're very welcome!
@@TomoFujitaMusic I appreciate it! :)
One of your best videos/lessons, Tomo....and that's saying something! Thank you so much for you guitar and life wisdom
Thank you so much! You're very welcome!
You are great teacher! You are just right ! Thank you for sharing about lack of confidence as we all struggle thus

I agree with everything you said mr fujita. Youre like the book of five rings of guitar playing. Everything is connected ❤
Thank you so much! Guitar is so beautiful! Gives us possibilities and happiness.
I LOVE YOU TOMO!!! Please stay calm and strong!!! People love you, we need more people like you! 気分を良くしてください!

I’ve dreamt of doing a real lesson with this man for many years. If your ever so lucky don’t take it for granted.
Thank you so much!!
You are one heck of a lovely person. Thank you for doing what you do here!
You're very welcome
I'm a big fan of you and I don't care about your own perfectionism in your own head. You are already a special legend. Millions of beginners (I guess including professionals) like me start your guitar playing. You are guitar. Guitar is you. Forever.
Thank you so much! Guitar is so amazing! I just want to share this joy (journey part) to everyone. I love that quote.
Hi Tomo, you are a great human teacher. I try to play guitar and I listen carefully each video, guitar need a lot of work, music is so good for my life. Thank you so much Tomo. Great person thanks for this video. Jg France
Thank you so much! Guitar is so amazing! Guitar really gave me a meaning of life. I am so thankful. You're welcome!
I feel the same ..lately i haven't picked my guitar its been like 6 months, lost my inspiration... I hope i get it back!
Thanks for sharing. We all have this. Don't worry!
You're very welcome! Life is tough enough!
It's fun listening to you my man

Thank you for posting this Mr. Fujita. I needed to hear a lot of the things you said, specifically "just play". We are indeed not perfect and it takes time to become the great people and guitar players that we want to be. ❤
My pleasure! Glad to hear that. Information and social media makes us expect more! No needed! Thank you!
Thank you thank you !
You're very welcome!
Music never judges us , only brings us positive vibes, only human being put judgement on each other and bring too much ego beyond music and making think way too complicating!!!
Thanks for sharing. That's why guitar makes us so humble! Guitar got no opinions on us!
I respect you a lot Mr. Fujita Sempai, I want to see a little tomo playing his harmonica though
Thank you!
Thank you!
Thank you for your thoughts, wisdom, and encouragement!
You're very welcome
Thank you Tomo! Great video and you have a nice way to think! When I'm practicing guitar and getting upset, I put my guitar away and listen to Jazz standards and sing the melody. Its another way to go foward and stay positive !!! Keep Rockin'!
You're very welcome! I had same reaction on jazz! Good job!
Thanks for this, Tomo.

Amazing video...really amazing.it feels so good when people talk about personal life.We want a real human emotion and story no more social media fake happy reality
Thank you so much!
Big fan of the authenticity. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
You're very welcome Victor!! Yes. Communication with others. (Talking & Listening) is so good. I wish more subscribers are sharing their experiences at the forum (Guitar Wisdom) Some guys are helping other subscribers. Beautiful!

So happy to hear that. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing! Yes. We all have some problems and we are humans! Not perfect! Thank you so much!

I wish there were instructors here in my town like you. Keep up the AWESOME WORK! I still have to drop this I found you through Win IS Music .... your student LOL!!
So happy to hear that. Thank you so much! I love guitar so much!
