we use to call it red brick here in australia as that is what it was a red clay brick used in a lot of houses in the old days and the pigeon fanciers use to crush it up in a corn crusher'... my dad and myselfe use to feed it to tne race birds on friday afternoon before taking the birds to the club

Sorry to hear buddy! That could happen to anyone. That's an accident caused by magnetic forces that got the birds to go too far and then couldn't home properly back.
