I have experienced being in a room full of dilute H2S before and I was not able to breathe - instant coughing fit and nausea when I tried to breathe in. I don't know how the victim was able to continue to stand there and direct the crane operator after he first got a good whiff of H2S.
Unfortunately, the advice not to administer water because “water + H2S = Acid” is quite misleading as the acidity of such a solution is weaker than that of soda water!
John P. That's not correct. Soda water (meaning carbonated water, not water with baking soda) is acidic due to the carbonic acid. If you doubt this I recommend that you buy a bottle of soda water and a pH tester.
Very nice draw of attention for providing execuitve information for safe working in hazardous gas zones. Safety precautions as a collective safety measures is fantastic. We all must make sure that we should restrict the movement of employees if the area is hazardous having silent killer gas. Also must make a plan for SIMOPS
I impressed! This safety education is well produced and effective. BTW, H2S is flammable, explosive in the right concentration, reactive with water and neurotoxic
I'm enjoying the goofy-ass animations of what was actually a really serious incident. Did a mysterious old man really appear out of thin air and provide advice too?
I saw a few mistakes. Ignoring the whole "DO NOT ENTER" barricades. But, then, he even ignored his poison gas alarm. That right there, is a "get the hell out!" thing since he didn't have proper PPE with him.
This is an interesting movie that attracts as well as educates. Hydrogen Sulphide is a huge threat considering the current state of affairs and every effort should be made to protect work-forces from the menace. I laud the effort and wish you all the best. Dipal (ASK-EHS Engg. & Consultants)
It seems there was no "Permit to Work" system in place or it was poorly excecuted. One of the purposes of a PtW system is to prevent jobs intervering with each other. Jobs can be postponed till it is safe to do them.
You got it there. Permit systems make it to where Unit Operations know where work is going on and what types. If an opening/blinding permit were issued with regard to others, then the third guy would've been spared. They may have a different system, but an all ears on deck system US Refineries and Chem plants have is to prevent incidents like this when lines are broken.
I was the HSE Manager in Habshan when this incident happened and I produced this video with the help of many professionals. When the victim was taken to the clinic the doctor spent long time to clear the acid from his throat due to the water ingestion. The message is generated from that incident for future reference
read this with Sheldon Smith's voice (uscsb narrator) in your head : On september 8th, 2014, two workers of Gasco refinery were performing a maintenance on a blind section of hydrogen sulfide piping, wearing proper safety equipment, required for working in toxic gas atmosphere. They wanted to replace a blind cap, which was heavily corroded. But unknown to the workers, the valve leading to this section of piping remained open. Meanwhile, other worker approached the area. Two workers started with disassembling of the blind cap and highly toxic hydrogen sulfide gas started to seep through the gasket. Although their personal poison gas alarms got immediately triggered by the toxic gas, the workers considered it as a normal situation and believed, that it is only a residual amount of gas and continued in the work. Suddenly, the poisonous gas alarm of the third worker also triggered, but before he could take any action, the hydrogen sulfide gas completely engulfed the third worker and because he was not wearing any gas mask, he got quickly overwhelmed and collapsed. ..... It is not real scription, I just wrote it from my fantasy 😅😅 to add a little bit of spice to the animation. .
Dear Video Owner, Thank you for creating such nice video on H2S. Can I have permission from you to use this video for safety training purposes? Thank you.
Milk does not prevent hydrogen sulfide poisoning. Milk also produces sulfuric acid when combined with hydrogen sulfide. Milk consists mostly of water. If a coworker is poisoned, you must take them to a hospital as soon as possible. However, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Stay out of areas where hydrogen sulfide is present (unless you have the appropriate safety gear), and if your hydrogen sulfide detector goes off, you should get out of the area.
@@TheDankEngineer ty for reply , and ty for translation, I am petroleum engineer , we exposed to low concentration of H2S , they give us milk as anti poison , that is why am looking for answer about the relation between drinking milk and h2s
It has a smell up to 50 ppm Higher concentrations will disable your ability to smell the gas. In my factory we have concentrations from 1500 up to 16000 ppm H2S. So I can choose to die within a few minutes or within on breath😅 It's funny because I have no chance to survive a leak. Because it takes atleast 2 minute to use your respirator. H2S is such a nasty stuff. In one line with phosgene. If you don't believe me google it.
The one near the end is from a collection of royalty-free music - "Black Vortex". It and a bunch of others are at incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/music.html I suspect other music in this video is from the same site but don't know which ones they are offhand.
Agree with Dipal Ejardar Hydrogen Sulfide is a threat that can be eliminated by using proper training and educate workers about hazards and controls on H2S.
This is a Good and Useful Video... Dear Gasco Habshan Let me Share it
What the hell did I just watch? A safety video or a spiritual awakening video???? Jesus help us.
How sad that in real life, a Christ-like dude in white robes doesn't show up to save you at the last minute.
It’s an example of what to do dumb ass
Great massage to all needy very informative 👍 I'm still watching it in end of 19.

anonymous, that's correct but it's not because it turns to acid so Steve Hitchen is still correct.

I'm sure that soda at 10 ppm can corrode plumbing like hydrogen sulphide can, right?
It is still unwanted inside the asaphagous it's not like the victim can just swallow it.
A well produced safety message.
