Wow that machine is awesome, I’ve been lifting forever and never saw one. This is one thing that makes Jay my favorite, he never really cared about powerlifting or showing off high weight lifts. He cared more about the results of training rather than how he looked doing it, and also puts a huge emphasis on injury prevention and body longevity. Looking at him and Ronnie now the difference is obvious
I stopped freesquatting after my vasus lateralis tore. I now use the pendulum squat for squatting, Takes away the need for balance , makes it much safer. As a 53 year old Bodybuilder, I can easily load that baby up with 7 plates and get 10 to 12 relps. I call it the senior squat machine lol
Wouldn’t you want to do more stability/ flexibility work with knee problems, like squatting with light weight, to help heel your knees (after resting them to heal tendinitis?)
I used to squat quite heavy for 3-4 years but couldn't see much growth in my quads. But there has been a drastic improvement to my quads since I've incorporated pendulum squats in my program. You can't go heavy on them, but they burn your quads like crazy even with light weights.
Mann, my gym has this machine. I never knew the name,or even how to use it hahaa I typically use the traditional pendleton squat machine. This machine is right next to it. im going to use it on my next leg day. I just did leg day this morning 😢
Somehow most squating movements hurt my knees, except I actually like bulgarian split squats doesn’t hurt my knees somehow, and everyone else hates that one
I would say this is more of a v squat variant than a pendulum. I think a back shoulder pad is a better design than top pads and full bsck pad. Not sure this is good for deep knee flexion though.
I quite like the Zercher squat as you can stay very upright Then there's front squats as well I no longer back squat as the above two are safer and feel more compatible with my body Oh and sissy squats too I like
I think they feel kind of unnatural. I think for maximum leg growth along with heavy squats, drop the weight to like 60% of your 1 rep max (a weight like 225), and do 4 sets of 10-12. This will blow up your legs
Hate to be that guy, but you need to. Here is why: 1) sports- if you’re playing a sport, they all are controlled with legs 2) aesthetics- you don’t need Tom Platz legs, but you at least need something. Guys with decent upper bodies and literally nothing on legs look so ridiculous 3) overall muscle growth. Your legs are such big muscles, when you work them (with the proper movements- squats, lunges) your body responds with so much free testosterone and gh, prompting muscle growth even in upper body. After a good day of squatting you will even feel your biceps pumped 4) fat loss- legs (once again the heavy compound movements) burn so much fat. Rather do legs than cardio. 5) sex- legs are main driver for this movement. ***even if you literally do either just squats or lunges, then calves: like 25 min. That’s a good leg day
Yeah. Any kind of machine squat or leg press will build leg muscles if you do them with enough intensity and volume with progressive overload. I would still do some kind of barbell squat though.
If squats are the best thigh exercise why doesn't everyone have Tom platz leg development that's because it's not about the exercises your doing it's about the genetics your born with in each body part you don't know what your talking about
Tom platz enters the conversation
"Nothing better than the squats "😁
Platz also only did squats once or twice a month folks!
Keep that in mind.
@@jamesh5142 yeah it's because he did an absurd amount of volume is why

Jay has done it all. JC is one of the hardest working still to this day.
I like the hack squat variation where the weight is put on your hips and not your shoulders and thus lower back.
We had that in Nashville at Redcon1… I miss it 😢

This guy and Ronnie motivate me to workout harder in the gym
About time someone invented a squat machine like this! Can't wait to find a gym that has it and give it a go!
That pendulum squat is made by Rogers I believe. Best leg machine there is in my opinion.
Because of tendonitis in my knees I’ve had to stop the squats and stick with legs presses.
Wouldn’t you want to do more stability/ flexibility work with knee problems, like squatting with light weight, to help heel your knees (after resting them to heal tendinitis?)
Can you not hack squat? Usually that movement is alot better than a barbell squat when people have knee problems.
Do what works best for you! Keep it up 👍
Spanish squats with slow eccentrics and a hold at the bottom helped my patellar tendonitis and also gives a nasty quad pump

The next day: this airhead bodybuilder is focusing on making the squat easier.

That pendulum squat machine is VERY different to the pendulum squat machine in my gum 😮
I believe in the machines start off with regulars barbell squats with weights I’ll take me to 12 then for heavy duty I use the machines for safety
Punctuation helps a lot.
Tom Platz: hold my belt
Hello Jay. Can the pendulum squat be switched out with reverse hack squat
Are hack squats good? I've done them instead of barbell squats for the past month as I'd like to grow my quads more
Definitely, done the right way, they're very beneficial.
Hack squats are a great movement

what about the belt squat? no loading on spine
What about if you work out at home and only have dumbbells?

this is not even a real pendulum squat, lol

always the 12 repetitions😂

Jay, I understand it’s not a squat replacement, but should we load up heavy on it or go for clean reps with a moderate weight?
He says to focus on 12 reps in the clip, so moderate weight I suppose.
The answer for this, and almost all movements, is both.
Alternate, go heavy one week, next week high reps with less weight..youre welcome
