Love the 105 for street. I am so jealous we are in lockdown again, been 2 weeks, and it is probably going to be another 2 - 4 ... I may have forgotten what a street is by then ...
@@ogonzilla Sorry to hear that. Your Back country video was amazing. The freedom. What is the word on the street re C19 in the greater New York area? I actually use this combo a lot for street photography, you definitely have to get in there a bit, but it's a great combo for candid street portraits and stuff like that. The background separation is phenomenal. Also being able to pick out a shot 20 feet ahead of you becomes a honed skill with this thing. You don't get everything, but you really increase your keeper rate after getting used to the focal length.
zoom lenses are wayyyy more versatile for street photography. Not even a doubt. 100mm is within 24-120 and 70-200. F4 tells a better story than F1.4...
@@alexandre..9343 I don't mess with zooms too much for street. It's just another element of thinking that I have to deal with, especially with candid stuff. I'm not trying to "tell a story" I'm in it for subject isolation. For me the individual is the story.
on my tiny olympus camera, i was shooting street shots with the 75/1.8 sometimes. it's even crazier, the angle of view is like a 150mm on a big sensor camera would be. but the pictures looked a bit like these in the video. and it was very cool experience. especially with the whole setup being so small and people being so far away, nobody even knew i was taking photos :)
Hey Jersey Guy! My favorite lens "back in the day" when I was shooting with my Nikon FM was the 105mm lens, and I loved it for portraits. BTW, I still have that camera and lens...never could part with them.
I’m about to rent this lens on my Z6II for a wedding in may for portraits. Hopefully I’d find a little bit time for some street foto because, dude, your poctures looks stunning and the colours are spot on!
OMGosh…, you are the best! You speak slowly and the footages are so nice n clear👍 But I can’t afford to buy that nikon camera. Right now I think you are the only one using Nikon camera. Everybody on youtube uses Sony. Thks 4 your videos👍😘
The thing while doing street photography with a longer lens is you have to keep an eye on the far sight, that way you can anticipate/wait for moments... You cant just walk aimlessly and suddenly got something to photograph, only to realize that you've already too close to the subject/object and the frame is too tight. I recently have a vintage Minolta 135mm on Fuji XT1... It was a bit of a learning curve since I usually use a 35mm for my walkaround the street, and I found myself walking back a lot when using that 135mm xD
Thanks to your vids I upgraded to the Z6ii. Still have my D610 for now. I will be using my Z6ii with my Sigma 50mm 1.4 lens 😁 in Denver this weekend,🙌. Enjoy your content ! Thanks once again !

Hey Omar, you can get that film curve SOOC by creating a custom picture profile in Nikon Picture Control Utility 2 on your desktop. You can start with the standard profile and add a custom tone curve. It's a really powerful tool!
The 1.2 105 is hands down my favourite lens, for a plethora of reasons. As you mentioned: It has character. And that's probably the most important reason. I downright love it.
I enjoy your videos very much because you’re relatable to everyone and you’re not trying to push any other agenda but PHOTOGRAPHY looking forward to the next one be safe 🇵🇷👊🏼✌🏼🖖🏼
The missed shots with the FTZ adapter is a contact issue. Clean the contacts with a pencil eraser very carefully. As the lens bends also from the weight, it can also bend and the contact gets temporarily disconnected.
Interesting topic Omar. My take: The 24-70 is my pick for street. The Nikon FTZ seems to be a still to mature product. Especially for me, a DSLR user Contemplating a shift But breaking the norm does create newer perspectives Lovely pictures.
I've been looking at the Z series. I was thinking of getting the Z5 to get into full frame. The lenses seem expensive to me, thank you for showing us the alternative and how adapted lenses might work just fine.
@@Kit2Canada i will definitely have a look to rent it first, the price is just too high to go in blind. i do have a 50-250 kit lens on another camera to play around on though to test that focal length first, i dont think i'd be using it that much. the 80mm seems a good length at the moment.
That music is just groovy! Great vid! I think on my next trip to ATL, It'd be cool to shoot street with my Z6II and Sigma 135mm. Plus it's big enough to use as weapon if need be.
But...how is the AF performance of the 105mm f/1.4 on the Z6II? Is it as fast and self-assured as a native Z-Series lens? I've heard that it is...but just curious to hear your thoughts.
Someone probably already said it in the comments, but the DSLR mount is F mount, while Z mount is for mirrorless. FX lenses are full frame lenses, where as DX lenses are crop sensor lenses.
I came from Nikon then just recently moved to Fujifilm, now I am torn LOL. Looking forward when you're able to test Nikon ZFC soon. *fingers-crossed* Btw love both Fuji & Nikon cameras & lenses✌️😁
105mm rules. Every Nikon shooter for several decades had the classic 105mm f/2.5 in their kit (see McCurry's Afghan girl). When the f/1.4 was announced, I bought a still new in the box 105mm f/2.0 DC, giving up one stop but saving a ton of money and weight. It's an option for those that might was to experiment with this focal length.
I have the new macro and it's hard for me to use the 85mm now... the 105mm has taken its place... but I really want the 1.4 because I still use my D850 and it'll be great for both systems...
I'm waiting for a Z 105/135 f/1.2 S (baby 200 f/2) instead to complete my f/1.2 lens trinity (Z 50 f/1.2 S & EF 85 f/1.2 L II adapted). Both Nikon & Sigma 105 f/1.4 are nice, but the Z mount opens new possibilities that allows Nikonians to keep up with the Jones in the upcoming years.
I am looking to get a Mirrorless camera, I'm more inclined to a Fujifilm X system than an Nikon, but I've always loved the Nikon 105mm lens... is there any similar alternative for the Fuji X System?
The 105 f/1.4 is actually an E lens, not a G. The E lenses control the aperture electronically, you'll notice there is no lever on the back of the lens to change the aperture like on your 50 f/1.8G. You got some really beautiful images. I have the 105 2.8G F mount macro and if the new Z works like the old F it will not give you 2.8 at closer focus distances. If you do a headshot, you're at 3.5 minimum. But it's really a macro lens, shooting with it really close, like macro close, even f/11 will have a beautifully soft background. Anyway, I guess I'm trying to say the 105 f/1.4 is a portrait lens, the 105 2.8 macro is not. I think you would love shooting street with a 70-200 f/2.8 especially the new Canon RF and Nikon Z zooms because they have a nice minimum focus distance and they are nice and sharp at 2.8 while not being sterile. I enjoyed your videos as always.
Just love those Nikon colours.. just a shame that the Z6 with and without the ftz frustrated the living hell out of me and after shooting 14 years with Nikon I moved to the dark side and purchased the R6. Now that’s a camera that doesn’t miss a beat with or without an adaptor. Fingers crossed that Nikon can catch up with their v3 bodies.
Z6II with up to date firmware is pretty much there once you master the AF system. You have to work with it and use it in the field to get the hang of it, but when you do it works great now - the Z9 will be on par with, or better than, anything on the market, and that tech will trickle down to other Nikon's. The days of Nikon having the worst AF in the mirrorless game are about to end. I feel bad for all the UA-camrs that will have nothing bad left to say about Nikon. Nikon glass remains the best, so does Nikon ergonomics, so does Nikon files - this is where Nikon really outshines Canon - the quality of the RAW files are clearly the best in the industry - I think you'll be back to Nikon soon enough :). Now that I have said all that, the R6 is a great camera and I love what Canon is doing on the innovation front. It is great to see Canon, Sony and Nikon forcing each other to get better.
Looks like it is easy for you to attach the lens to the adapter. Mine ist a different story: It sits so firm I often fear, I have to break something to get the lens on or off... Does anybody have the same "problem" and/ or a solution, or is it just the lack of my physical strength??? Between lens/ body: no problem, that does it easy.... Thanx for your help! Stephan

Great video! I've been a fan of your channel since I got my X-T20 almost two years ago. I noticed your talking head shots look different lately. Is it a different camera/lighting set up, or the way you color grade?
The "no response" issue with the adapter is only going to get worse, trust me. This issue goes all the way back to early TC-14 teleconverters on certain lenses that had the same problem that Nikon refused to acknowledge. It's a voltage mismatch between the adapter and the lens due to a poor quality chip. Nikon wont go beyond cleaning the contacts...which wont help. You will need to get the lens re-chipped. The modification consists of replacing the DC/DC converter circuit board. Good luck with this issue, you'll need it.
105mm on X6ii make it look ridiculous stupid. The more i am dealing with camera the more i am leaning toward small tiny prime lenses. Tire to lug around large heavy zoom/prime lenses.
I don't like FTZ adapter its like another small lens, Canon made a better adapter for R mount. To be honest 105 doesn't look good on camera with ftz plz use Nikon D700 with that lol.

How are you finding the Nikon compared to your Sony's? Just out of curiosity! I'm really tempted by the Z fc or the Z5 as my way into the system. But I'm not sure yet!
Try street photos with the 600mm f4
Make sure your FTZ has the latest firmware.
Is this a dx lens ?
I have a Z6. Mine has never done weird things with the FTZ.
Love the videos...funny and insightful... have you made changes to the jpeg setup in camera or as is?
No. Only edited how i described
Nikon 85 1.4 G vs Nikon 105 1.4 E which is better than buying wedding shoot in villages
I have a 105E it’s beautiful…
I left FF Nikon for APS-C Fuji a number of years ago, but you've really got me considering the Z cameras lately. Love your videos!
No reason you can't enjoy both. 😉
How much is it ?
Photography world: No one and I mean NO one produce better colors than fuji.
Nikon:.... Hold my sake.
~2:58… I found myself getting all into the video and I said out loud… “oh yeah… I do like cameras” 🤭
This was before coffee and it was early, around ~5:00 AM, so I am not sure it was just the animal part of me that responded😅🙈
Hi Omar, did you completely move away from Sony ?
Not yet.
Fuji system does the same with half of the size and weight
4:27 that shot definetly should have been a landscape oriented shot
Apparently I'm not perfect. Dang. Reality checks suck!
@@ogonzilla If you had your fuji with you, you could easier turn your wrist and take that shot :))
Great video! I've been a fan of your channel since I got my X-T20 almost two years ago.
I noticed your talking head shots look different lately. Is it a different camera/lighting set up, or the way you color grade?
Always experimenting. See what works.
3:55 👍👍👍👍👍
The "no response" issue with the adapter is only going to get worse, trust me. This issue goes all the way back to early TC-14 teleconverters on certain lenses that had the same problem that Nikon refused to acknowledge. It's a voltage mismatch between the adapter and the lens due to a poor quality chip. Nikon wont go beyond cleaning the contacts...which wont help. You will need to get the lens re-chipped. The modification consists of replacing the DC/DC converter circuit board. Good luck with this issue, you'll need it.
I’ll keep that in mind thanks!!
105mm on X6ii make it look ridiculous stupid. The more i am dealing with camera the more i am leaning toward small tiny prime lenses. Tire to lug around large heavy zoom/prime lenses.
Nice telescope ya got there
I don't like FTZ adapter its like another small lens, Canon made a better adapter for R mount. To be honest 105 doesn't look good on camera with ftz plz use Nikon D700 with that lol.
