i miss Harlan and Susan, our last contact Susan sent me a signed copy from Harlan's collection of Shatterday with a beautiful note sometime after hurricane Katrina. I moved to Europe and fell off the map. lovely lady, and Harlan was/is an archetype for me. Harlan Ray Bradbury, Elmore Leonard, Edward Albee and a few others; even though im classed and regarded as a poet- they suckled ,me and all but made me the artist i would grow into.

Rest in peace Harlan. I’ve never met you and now I will never meet you. But I’ve now grown to love one of your books “I have no mouth and I must scream” which was my introduction to your work. I really love AMS description of Hate. And now having read/listened to the radio drama and watching the game, I have now listened to the book more than 8 times and I have a lot of respect for you and truly wish that you’re doing well wherever you are. Rest in peace.

Harlan ..I never saw you in person...however I want to thank you....it was you who got me interested in my lifelong habit of reading way back when I was a kid in school in the early 70's. It was because of your books that I questioned the world around me. You are the best writer on the face of the Earth!

Good to hear the name of the Great Lenny Bruce.
He died for our Sins against Freedom of Speech.
Sadly he is rolling in his grave now.

Regarding the prices for Harlan's books. Man's gotta eat and keep the lights on. I don't blame him one bit. I would probably do the same if I reached his level of fame. No, strike that. I would do the same. Good writing is difficult. I've tried and I don't have the talent or the patience for it. Or as HE once put it, "stop writing crap!".

Stephen King's -- and many other bestselling writers -- hardcovers cost less than Ellison's paperbacks. And Ellison's not very famous outside of science fiction fandom. That's why he hasn't had any books published by a major New York publishing house in many years.

Stephen King has more money than God. Harlan ha a smaller cult following, and the reason he hasn't been published by a major house is because he's impossible to deal with if you're a fake corporate douche.I like Stephen King but I think Harlan's writing is infinitely more interesting and engaging so I'm willing to pay more for it. It's not about popularity, it's about quality. If people think the quality justifies the price, they will pay. And they do. Writing isn't a popularity contest. Twilight is wildly popular. Is Harlan therefore worth less than semi-literate kiddie book writers?

This is a great segment. Harlan Ellison is the most eloquent writer of all time. I hope that he continues his career with gusto. Period.

Great to see you again, Harlan! It's been too long since your last video. Your adoring public is starved for your wisdom, opinions and whatever else is on your mind. Take care!

Imagine having written as much as he has. All of the stories, drafts and revisions, articles and more.. For 50+ years.. All on typewriter with two fingers. LOL

He still looks like he works out. Maybe it's from lugging that typewriter around, to get to the typeface

I have just read on Comic Book Resources that Harlan Ellison is in hospital recovering from a stroke that has left him paralysed down the right side. I am heart broken. I wish he and his family all the best.

MR HARLAN ELLISON please answer me on this! WHY HASNT ANYONE EVER MADE A "I HAVE NO MOUTH AND I MUST SCREAM" MOVIE?

    • @josawesome1
      @josawesome1 8 років тому +1

He actually explained this in his "I Have No Mouth, And I Must Scream" collection that the problem is that nobody could figure out how to film it yet.

Tempted as I am to purchase Harlan Ellison's Endlessly Watching, paying $49.99 for a trade paperback -- $39.99 after the $10 discount (so why not just quit crapping around and set the price at $39.99) is a deal breaker.

Harlan I'm glad you are looking with molto brio after your catarrh. One concern though is that the Art Deco never allows you to write an entry; it is shutdown can your UA-cam buddy get the word out and gets this fixed?
    sincerely
