Wild Red Wolves in North Carolina

  • Wild red wolves in eastern North Carolina. Alligator River National wildlife refuge is home to some of the last red wolves in the world. The last estimate is between 35-40 wolves. On this particular morning I was lucky enough to witness and photograph 4 individuals. All of them happen to be colored. Also I had 3 encounters with the illusive bobcat! Only got a couple of images and a brief moment captured of video. I hope you enjoy and let me know what you think!

    This made me tear up a little. I volunteer at a breeding center for these guys in Missouri. They have had a very hard time coming back from extinction. So few people know about them and it seems like most people who do want them removed from the wild altogether. Its so nice to see them wild.

      People are idiots. 100 million new people in US since 1993 and what3-600 wolves in a country of 4 million square miles? It’s sad. Wish there was enough land and regulation for enough untouched wildlife. Won’t happen at this rate, we may end up like China with a billion people and zoos

    I’m here because last night on our farm we saw two very large wolves. One was grey and the other black. We are in Davie county in NC. I wasn’t able to get a picture because I was trying to get my dogs inside. But they were very large…almost looked like a small cow. Also last year we shot a picture of a red wolf walking down behind our house in the middle of day.

Great film, I've must of watched it at least 10 times and will keep watching it, thank you for sharing

    I've been there twice in the last month. Always looking for bobcats and wolves, I have seen an otter from a distance, a bear from twenty feet (four years ago), bears in the fields, eagles, turkeys, outstanding alligator shots, and I am hoping to get the rest. It was really cool to see your enthusiasm and your exultation upon reaching your goals. Thanks for sharing, I feel just like you do about that magical place!

    Thank you so much for this video. the red wolves and that bobcat were amazing. I would love to see the wild red wolves! The bob cat looked so big and healthy! I have a mother bobcat living near me in Florida that I see now and then. She had 2 kittens this year. (I saw your video posted on RWC FB page)

    I literally just saw one on carova beach NC last week and came back south on the beach and saw 5 wild horses. I didn't know what I saw. Thought it was a huge coyote. Nope, one red wolf. It was twice the size of my German shepherd hound mix who was riding inside my truck with me

    I got my redwolf from a guy that found a litter of pups and the mom was shot! That was 15 yrs ago but I bred a male to a female malamute and he is not 2.5 yrs old now and people in my college town all think he’s a husky! But he’s high maintainability! Unless you have a secure enclosure with chain link in the ground on bottom of the pen that also has a chain link top! And you have time (3-6) hrs a day to be with them they can and will chew thru the chain link! I also have hog wire panels outside the. Chain link! They are very easy to train and socialize but ya can’t trust them to not escape! They can dig under any fence that’s not secured in concrete ! They are Houdini’s

    Very cool! I've been to the OBX twice now but still haven't made it out to Alligator yet. I would love to see a red wolf. Next time I've gotta go and try. I'm in the mountains of western NC. My wife and I have seen 3 bobcats over the past year; two on the Blue Ridge Parkway and one just outside of Stone Mountain State Park. They were much smaller than your bobcat. I've subscribed... looking forward to seeing more of your videos.

    They are here in the gulf of florida they found refuge and safe haven here untouched, I had one right in the yard to next to my house they deserve to live freely without man or gov interference and NC is their home too! The Natives had a connection to the wolves and a mutual respect for these animals and the land living side by side, unlike the gov that came along and sold a lie to have them destroyed as these intelligent wolves posed a threat and challenge to their communist agenda playing out

    I’m a wild life guy but I’m sorry it doesn’t make sense .. I read they released some and one got hit by a car quick .. what’s that tell you there isn’t enough room for them especially in the east .. roads criss cross most of the USA outside of Alaska

    • @JM-nt5ex
      @JM-nt5ex 3 роки тому +2

      I think we should retire much of our roads, invest in crossings on those that are left, as well as alternative transportation to reduce fragmentation. It's a bigger problem than people think, what's the point in having woods if they're so fragmented wildlife can't thrive. We need to start helping people move west as well, 80% of the country is on the east coast and we have a big ass country.
