- A quick update about our birds in the 2020 AU Racing Pigeons Convention Race. We have 2 of our 3 racing pigeons still in the running on this 300 mile final race!! Life with racing pigeons / homing pigeons unfiltered. Enjoy!

Good morning, Mr Robison I live in asheville nc. I found a dead bird on my pool last night and has a green tag on right leg! Just wonder if this is the missing bird maybe? The info said AU 2020 ARPU 0604
Oh sad! Thanks for reaching out to me. The bird you found is not mine. Sounds like it was a young pigeon that may have gotten lost and was looking for water. If you want to locate the owner you can go to pigeon.org and navigate to “report lost bird” (or something like that). Thanks again!!

Oh wow! Does it have a band in its leg? If it does and you are able to get all the info off the band then we should be able to locate the owner. In the meantime, give it some water and bird seed

Thanks for the comment! One did and one did not. The one that didn’t make it had only been flown out to 120 miles. 😞 I will admit that I was disappointed in the handler. 120 miles to 300 miles is just too big of a jump!

Most of my birds are out of Joe Nemelka’s Aarden hen. Got one Ganus and one Macaloney bird as well.

How do you determine the gender of your young birds?
Sometimes I can tell by certain physical attributes but I mostly just watch them as they mature. Behavior is really the only sure way (unless the parents are blue and red in which case you can immediately know the gender of their offspring bc color is a sex linked trait).

Good luck with your birds, they look good. However, I would prefer you feed them in a trough! How would you like to be fed on a dirty plate! 😭😂🤣
I’ve gone back and forth; right now I do prefer the middle of the floor. It doesn’t get dropped on much and cleans right up. Is it 100% sanitary? No. But they are healthy and it has made them tame which is worth it to me. And for that matter, it’s good enough for Mike Ganus (at least that’s how he feeds them in some of his vids). Thanks for the feedback! I may move back to a feeder now that they are trapping well and comfortable with my hands touching them. Best wishes!

My advice is try to find someone local who raises pigeons and get a pair from them. I wish I could help but I do not send pigeons overseas. Best wishes and keep in touch!
