    Hayward Field in Eugene always produces really fast times which is usually hard for the athletes to repeat on other tracks, so this isn't the best gauge of their performance. Rai Benjamin became the 3rd fastest over the 400mH (then joint-2nd fastest) because of this same track. Btw these are just two examples and for track fans we know that there are many more of such similar cases.

    So he ran 43.1 in split, what's the difference? Time only counts when holding the thing, thus there are 15-20meters (or whatever) less to run?

    • @user-ph9nv1hj3g
      @user-ph9nv1hj3g 4 роки тому

      No, if you timed the runners when they received the baton, you would see that the times would be slower because they actually are running longer than 400m. The time starts as the baton is crossing the start/finish line. So, the times are faster because of the running start.

    • @sambenmoser1240
      @sambenmoser1240 4 роки тому

      @@user-ph9nv1hj3g they run 400m but start before the pass in these 400m or they run 400 M after the pass?

    • @user-ph9nv1hj3g
      @user-ph9nv1hj3g 4 роки тому +1

      Yes, that is because of the passing zones. As a runner, your split time won't start until the baton passes the start/finish line. So, everyone after the first leg will have a faster split than their open 400m time. Norman's open 400m pb is 43.45, but his fastest 4x4 split is 43.06. this is because of the running start through the zone.

    • @lasenyo7705
      @lasenyo7705 5 років тому +1

      You are taught to tuck your head in you are faster that way and it helps you to conserve more energy. A mistake I made when I was a freshman was I would move my head. And it just slows you down and makes you more tired. A lot of people move their head at the end of the 400m dash though because of the lactic acid

    For someone who's been around track for so long, Dwight Stones says some dumbshit stuff. It has been proven time and time again that wet weather or a wet track does NOT matter if it's also temperate and still. At least it's not Chris Collinsworth.
