10:19 there is still an issue with the dark background is that it affects your perception of the brightness of your picture leading underexpose your image. I wished we could set the background to a neutral gray like in other photo editing software.

Luminar has come a long way. 👍What I like most about the past updates was the much enhanced speed and stability, I found workarounds for almost all other issues. This seems like a really great update, I hope those speed and stability goodies are not sacrificed!
Thank you Anthony for your great video, and , yes…

This is a new version of Luminar Neo (v1.19) dropping for general release on 25th April (sorry I didn't say in the original recording!). It's a free update if you already own Neo. If you don't have it yet Skylum are currently running a "Spring sale" with up to 83% savings here: bit.ly/Luminar-NEO and code ATNEO10 will save you another 10%! (why the speech marks around "Spring Sale", because it's Autumn for those of us living in the Southern Hemisphere)

Thanks. Nice updates to the masking. Have there been any improvements to the other extensions (apart from HDR) which are generally far slower than competition options and some (noise reduction) perform poorly in comparisons as well?

@@hepgeoff Me too. I have purchased a couple of Skylum imaging products since 2018 but being a retired photographer, to spend monthly for some thing I simply don't have as much use for as the price involved, I am hoping that this update is offered to those of us that purchased NEO before it was actually available a couple years ago. I will view AT's review but Jim Nix did not say if it is free to early NEO purchasers but I hope that AT clarified this. Early AM here but will look at the review in a few minutes and hopefully fall asleep thrilled. TIA AT Well I did finally see all of the video and unless both my eyesight and my hearing has gone south, there is no mention of what purchase option is affected by the update. Would hope that maybe Skylum can comment to help folks know unless we simply have to wait until the 24/5 tp see what happens when we either boot up NEO or check for updates.
Why did not all the water become selected in the waterfall image? Also why were not all the items with dark shadows not become selected. However, I find that when selected the building does not work so well to my eye. I also would be interested to see what a single image HDR would produce of the same image file. Any part of the result could also be adjusted with masking and remove are adjust some areas of the image adjustment.

Thanks for the review Anthony, this is a most impressive update for sure! I'm sure glad I subscribed to Neo. I could never understand luminosity masking in Photoshop--it just seems like black magic voodoo. But in Neo, it's easily understandable! • @AnthonyTurnham
      @AnthonyTurnham  8 місяців тому

It's very different. They tackle HDR in a very different way. LR creates a 32bit raw dng that holds all the potential information but we still need to work the file to recover it, whereasNeo creates a 16bit tiff that already has the data processed automatically. My preference is the result from Neo, but Lightroom's version can still be very useful.

Looks good. It will be interesting to find out how much of that, if any, filters down to those of us on a one-time payment basis rather than a subscription... So far Neo is not even suggesting that 1.19 exists. Luminosity masks in particular were one of the things promised when Neo first came out and used to exist in Luminar 3 and 4 so I would like to see them just to complete the original feature promise. (The batch HDR would also be really useful today since I just came back from a shoot where I have about 8-10 HDR sets to process...)

Hi Alan, yes it'll be interesting to see. My hunch is that you'll see the new tools, the layout change, the ability to turn off the dynamic background and anything else apart from the HDR merge change as that's linked to either buying the HDR extension or being on the subscription that comes with it.

I have requested that feature directly to one of the chief developers, but we shall see.
Personally for my architecture I pre edit my raw with lightroom classic. And will often finish in Neo

Thank you for the video Anthony. I think this latest version, especially as it incorporates luminosity masking, might be a game changer for Neo (in spite of the superficial logo change). Putting aside the DAM, in your view, what then does LR have that Neo still needs to catch up with.

Tbh not too much other than the DAM. But for me that's still giving me a need to use LR in my workflow, particularly professionally. But Neo now has a lot more editing flexibility than LR.

Dedicated tutorial on Luminosity Masks would be brilliant please. This is taking Luminar to a much higher and different level. Detailed advice would be more than welcome.

😮 …. Yes yes luminosity deep dive please !
Back in the day, Skylum had something in Luminar 4 which they referred to as luminosity mask, but it was quite limited. You kind of hit the button and you got what you got.

Yes you're right. Well remembered. This is definitely an improvement over that.

BIG NEWS! Skylum has just launched a summer sale where you can save a massive 81% off Luminar Neo here bit.ly/NeoSale But the cool thing is in addition to that they've given me a coupon code to share with you so you get to save ANOTHER 20% (use code AFF-T5C1C0 ) I really hope that helps you out! It should work for both the perpetual licence and the subscription too. Enjoy😄 Best wishes, Anthony

Hi! Thanks for this video! Good to see Neo is improving. Never understood why missing the homogen background (black, gray, white) form Neo. Now I'm happy to use simple black. Still missing the picture info or exif date from Edit menu. Only in Cathalog menu the picture info is available. Why? Other strange thing, in previuos version the Develop RAW menu Profile option contained the camera profiles too (nature, vivid, ... ) in latest revision it is gone. Why? Sometimes I used camera profiles instead of Luminar default ... If you have influance to the Luminar Technicians could you please ask them? :) thx!

Great update. I wish they would add an easy watermark feature like Lightroom.
