  • Them Skates have achieved an incredible amount over the past four years and gathered a huge following of loyal customers thanks to some brilliant marketing, innovative releases, regular product improvements, a large team consisting of some of the most interesting and respected skaters in the world and a steady stream of high calibre video content.
    In this video I'm going to discuss five moments where Them Skates changed or improved the landscape of the aggressive inline industry, including:
    1. Becoming the first boot company in history to sell out of pre-orders on an initial run of skates.
    2. Them Skates are the first brand to be completely transparent about their royalties system and, with $25-$30 going to the pro from each sale, offer the highest royalties in the industry.
    3. They have managed to expose rollerblading to a non rollerblading audience more than any company in decades.
    4. Their various charity contributions have made a significant difference - both within and outside of the sport.
    5. They are the only existing boot brand to have their own high street store.

    You have to give credit to the Danny Beer pro model. It was sold in Nordstrom and Ssense and featured on fashion blogs. It was the first time I can remember seeing any rollerblade looked at as high fashion or stylish by people outside the rollerblading community. The Braindead stuff def helped with the growth in street style, but the Beer pro model was truly beautiful and creative design that got respect from tons of outlets. I will also say Jon is an awesome dude. When I ordered skates, he talked to me via email and on the phone and talked me through sizing, the right liner, wheels, etc. Super nice guy, and his personality and love for the sport has helped bring in a ton of new skaters, and supporters who frankly are proud to rally behind the sport and anything he does.

    Them is the single greatest thing to happen to our industry since Angie Walton brought together skateboarding, BMX and inlines. To do shows as equals in the early 90’s as you rightly said they market to the hole world not just to us.
    Keep up the good content. 🙏🏼

    Timely video for me because I went to the THEM shop in Santa Ana yesterday. It was my first time ever in a skate shop because I live in Massachusetts and there were never any around when I was growing up skating. I'm visiting Santa Ana for work and I went on my lunch break so I didn't get to spend a lot of time there but it was still a great experience. I actually didn't even know they had a shop. I was looking for skateparks on google and it came up so of course I had to go. Greg Preston was manning the shop so I got to meet him and he's a chill dude. I didn't even realize it was him even when he told me his name. After I left I was like "oh wait, that was Greg Preston". He did tell me that there's a skate shop in Boston so I'm forever grateful to him for telling me that. I don't think I ever would have searched for one only because I'm so used to there not being one. I'll definitely go again when I'm here and I'll make sure that I have plenty of time to spend there. Awesome video by the way.

      They’re a very likeable skate in terms of look, fit and performance. Nothing too outrageous in terms of design, nice and flexible for grinds etc and they’ve got a decent soul plate. I would argue the soul plate would be a little bigger, but that’s about it.

    They're like the sexiest skates,
    the incredible fast rise of the aggressive skate culture really scared the rest of the mobilesports like skateboard and bmx so it no wonder why the smear campaign happened they were scared of losing money to rollerskates and...they did for a short period. One day inline will be in the xgames again

    • @Siegefya
      @Siegefya Рік тому

      Xgames is hardly relevant anymore. Nowhere near as big as it was 20 years ago. I could care less if rollerblading gets back in. Arlo was right, I used to disdain certain things he did but I get it now. Skateboarding has other contests that are done and controlled by skateboarders, Street league for instance, Tampa AM and Tampa pro, hell even the battle at the berrics, far more important than the Xgames, matter of fact... skateboarding doesn't really care that it's in the Olympics now, I'm talking CORE skateboarding, it's the corporate entities that eat off skateboarding that care about the Olympics. That's what rollerblading needs more of, full control over rollerblading in all aspects including our contests, winter clash is amazing...it's SUPERIOR over the Xgames. We don't need corporate involvement, we did that in the 90's and the corpos fvcked us over, they need to come to us and we decide what they can be involved with or not... Not them deciding for us over a check.
