  • ⭐️ About this Episode:
    Learn from our mistakes! If your going into Yellowstone with NO RESERVATIONS and have a large RV, then get into the park early and go to Mammoth Campground on the North side of the National Park! We was told that Mammoth is typically the last campground to be FULL. But there are plenty of pull through sites there.
    We also catch 2 Mice 🐭 🐭 on the glue traps!! But there might be more because I seen something late at night move in the RV 😬!!
    Our Yellowstone adventures are about to begin so stay tuned for more videos!! Thanks for watching!

    Please read so I don’t have to explain this constantly!! About the MICE 🐭! When Laine was at the store I asked her to get LIVE traps but there were none! All they had was old fashion traps, which will not work in a shaky RV, I would constantly be resetting them. Poison bait also is a bad idea with us having small kids.. and glue traps was our only option before going into Yellowstone. Hopefully that helps explain our situation and reason for the glue traps.

      I like to buy these kits ( not sure if all states have them). They are black squares n u put the Poison inside. It locks poisoning in place then u snap it shut. Once it snaps it cannot be reopened. Unless u tried those n didn't like... Or maybe it still lil lffie cause of the poison..also Google it there's a certain kind of beans that are actually poisonous to mice and I actually think it's raw lima beans or raw kidney beans but they're poisonous to mice.. all natural way. Lol.

      Poison traps are bad because if the animal takes it and leaves and dies and another creature eats it, or eats it even before it dies, that animal is poisoned also. This is happening with owls and other birds of prey because they eat the poisoned rodent and it also dies. Sounds like the sticky traps are best. But you need to find out where they are getting in...🐀

      We use the same kind of trap that you used. And I commend you on everything in the video. It's a very good trap to use. But I always accidentally touch the glue on the trap. Lol. And then there's another situation. Lol. You did a awesome job on taking care of the mice situation. That's exactly the kind other RV'ERS use. I praise you.

  • @CareyRoberts5775
    @CareyRoberts5775 5 років тому +12

    Hey, for future mice (bc of course there will be more) you can actually get them off the glue trap so they don't starve to death/chew off limbs. Because that's really an awful way to go. You can pour a small amount of vegetable oil on the trap and it'll let them wiggle their way out of the glue.
    I know you don't want mice in the RV but glue traps are not very humane. 🙁

    • @LoftisPartyofSix
      @LoftisPartyofSix  5 років тому +1

      I agree.. at that time when Laine was at the store they had old fashioned traps, poison or glue traps so we went with glue obviously. But we did look for and would have gotten the live traps. At that point we just wanted them out as fast as possible. Thanks for watching!!

    We stayed at Fishing Bridge in 2017 which is closed until sometime in 2021 while they redo the campground. It was FHU and $$$.Even that campground was tight. Grand Teton has a lot more camping at Colter Bay. FHU $$$ sites are on top of each other however the Colter Bay Campground had very roomy sites with lots of trees. Love that campground.

    That's why I got rid of our 38' motorhome plus the jeep. We bought a new Ford F-150 1/2 ton pickup and a 24' travel trailer. We can get into any park, and lot easier to backup into a spot. We just park the trailer and drive our pickup truck around. Yellowstone campgrounds were designed years ago when people mostly tent camped or had small travel trailers. What I really like is the 2.7L twin turbo ecoboost engine 400 lbs of torque all the way up to highest mountain passes.

    I love watching you guys and your family is beautiful! The life you are living is just amazing and looks so free! I actually learned about boondocking from your channel and can't wait until my family and I are able to live that dream! That really sucks about having mice in the rv and no one wants that but seeing them stuck to that glue trap was so sad and broke my heart. Maybe you guys can find and stock up on some bait and trap ones that don't kill them and then you can set them free once you catch them. I have used them before and it definitely does the trick on catching them in there and this way you can set them free outside far away from your rv and they won't be injured or suffer like they do with glue traps. It's not only mice that suffer with glue traps. Birds and other small animals can get stuck on them as well if the trap gets out and they all suffer that same horrible fate. I still love watching you guys. Just some food for thought.

    With Fishing Bridge under construction it’s really hurt the large RV campers. Due to COVID construction slowdowns it’s now closed thru 2021 unfortunately. Not having reservations and an RV or travel trailer anymore is just not going to work. They book out a year in advance now except for some tent sites. I hear hotels book out two years, but I can not confirm.

    I stayed at Fishing Bridge, which is closed this year for renovations, with a 35 foot travel trailer. I made reservations in December (I think) for July. A couple of weeks later I decided to add one more day and called the park but all sites were full. I found out that people will call the first day that you can make a reservation and get a site and hold it even if they aren't sure they can come. If you check the parks website daily, many sites open up later on as people cancel them. I did that and eventually added a day.

    Was at Mammoth CG in late June for 5 days w/36' 5th wheel (1st night near your site, then moved up to top loop - great views and lots of room). Site at Norris wouldn't accommodate my truck. US89 going into Mammoth is a real 'nail biter', so very narrow for big rigs, I left out Grand Loop to US16 (with quite the climb up Mt Washburn and (Fishing Bridge was a mess with construction). Too many people/crowds and buffalo on the road -- don't go to Yellowstone in the summer unless you want long waits (parking & traffic backups for buffalo). Just love your family and your openness.

    Oh I am a sucker for animals so I found that hard that you put live mice in a bin, I totally understand about the live traps. My word you were high up on that road, well done Michael for navigating that and I was with Laine as the drops are pretty scary. Glad you managed to find a pitch xx

    Been there done that on the reservation thing. We have slept in many of Walmart parking lots because of that. Lol Great attitudes, also my husband got 36ft rv because it’s hard to get in some spots with a bigger one, however I know that wasn’t an option for your family. It’s just two of us. Safe travels

    Use 100 percent peppermint oil on real cotton balls placed in a open small GLASS container. Put them in the compartments and under sinks or where ever they may come in..The other we use with the peppermint is Fresh Cab. It also works well. Safe for you and the environment. Smells good also. We use this year round. We do place extra when storing for the winter. Has worked great for the last 4 years. Most bugs and rodents hate the smell. Hope this will help.

    We went to Yellowstone this past June and we all had a blast! Some areas seem like you are on another planet! So cool to see God’s creations. We wanted to go to Grand Tetons but ran out of time before having to head home, maybe next year as I hear it’s beautiful there too.
    Too bad about the mice, hopefully you rid them all soon. They are such a pain to deal with and can cause so much damage. Great video!

    Love love the video! Yellowstone is nice, but wait till you see Glacier, but do reserve a camp site now, will want to take the jeep going on the " going to the sun highway" pretty steep and curvey road. :-) the elevation is much steeper and rugged terrain . You all will be amazing at that area! God bless you and your family on your adventures in Montana :-)

    The best way to get rid of mice ,rats and other pests, is MINT. Keeping Mint plants or in ur case peppermint oil will do the trick, and its a grest smell for us humans where as mice , rats and scorpions hate it!!!

    Also next time if y'all stay off the NP at one of the campgrounds you wouldn't have to drive your rig even into the park ! Just take the Jeep. There are so many areas you won't even get to pull into with a RV.

    You should have put the mice down just out of morality, I mean what do you prefer a quick bat swing to the head or a 3 day agony stuck in glue, anyways put steel wool on the entering points (sewer hose hole ) they wont bite through that and is dirt cheap. Teach your kids that every living thing deserves respect.

    When going to Yellowstone always make reservations at least six months ahead of time.
    Next time check Gros Ventre Campground just north of Jackson Wyoming they have always had an opening every time we have been there.

      We live north of the park. White sulphur springs Montana. And we also have a larger motor home. And yes it is tough to find spots in Yellowstone. Mammoth, Madison junction, And the Gros Ventre are about the only places for larger rigs. The Gros Ventre is beautiful in the fall and you see lots of Moose.
