I can't imagine you going back to Europe and living a "normal" life. You are very unique. Africa makes you happy. You should live there when all is said and done

"I admire the people who are poor and keep their dignity" That statements REALLY speaks and resonates with average South Africans. Many of us are genuinely compassionate. We know the hardships of surviving in this country. But when the poor abandon their dignity, they lose both our respect and our wish to help. For example, we have a homeless car guard who retrieves trollies for a supermarket parking area. He is not employed by them. Not ONCE has he ever asked for money. Not ONCE has he even lingered waiting for a tip. IF ASKED, he willingly assists with unloading our trollies Then he retrieves the trolley and immediately walks off. I, and nearly every other shopper, really appreciate this zero emotional blackmail help. We frequently follow him or call him to give him what we can afford. It is often many times way beyond the "paar rands vir my kinders/brood etc' begged for by the majority of vagrants.
Incase you're wondering what the drunk lady said, she's asking for Namaqua, which is not only a place, but also the name of a very popular brand of wine in South Africa.
I think she was saying "Namaqua Daisy". Must be one of those cheapest, nasty boxed wines.😝😂 Wouldn't touch any Namaqua poison for any amount of money! MANY years ago, both my sister in-law and my late Mom, experienced horrific hallucinations etc. after consuming just a little at 2 different venues when they'd ordered wine by the glass.

Kino! I cant believe Im the first comment ^^ Good luck on you adventure in South Africa and I wish you a safe journey. Im so worried for your safety on our roads, there are crazy drivers here especially taxies.
The TAXIES!!! Especially when they just STOP 🛑 wherever it suits the driver to do so, either to pick up another passenger, or drop one off. They care less about whomever is driving directly behind them!!! Also when they "shoot" (run) the robots, so it's always safer to wait a while when a robot turns green, before pulling off. YVES won't really have that problem on a bike though. 🤭😂 Nor will he be riding at night, when those f*ckers with blinding blue headlights are on the roads. Sorry to say this, but one particular 'race' here in Durban is especially guilty of that. Those headlights ought to be illegal, for road safety purposes.

Hello Yves, I live in the area that you are going through now. Do not stop anywhere where funny people are. Do not give any money! Please, if you give some money there will by 10 more asking and they get aggressive and everyone carry a knife. Bottled wine here is more cheap than bottled water and people are thirsty. They will cut youre tyre. That is what they like to do. But on the plus side I think you took the right route. The west coast road is very beautiful. Also you can look in the shop for Peacefull Sleep. I like the spray, keeps all the biting flies away.
