A rare composition written by Mahakavi Bharathiyar on the concept of Maya (Illusion). Releasing this special song for Bharathiyar Remembrance Day ( September 11)! This poem portrays a battle between a clear mind and ignorance/illusion, personified as Maya.
Maya is portrayed as that concept which deludes a person into pursuing endless materialistic goals. This song brings out Bharathi’s fierce desire to call out and fight the Maya that surrounds us.

Uṇmai aṟindavar unnai kaṇippaaro, maayaiye
Manattiṇmai ul̤l̤aarai ni seyvadum oṇḍruṇḍo, maayaiye
He who knows the truth, would he judge you? O Maya (illusion)!
One who is strong of mind, what harm can you do to them? O Maya!
2. எத்தனை கோடி படைகொண்டு வந்தாலும் மாயையே - நீ
சித்தத் தெளிவெனும் தீயின்முன் நிற்பாயோ மாயையே
Ettanai koḍi paḍaikoṇḍu vandaalum, maayaiye
Ni sitta tel̤ivenum theeyinmun niṟpaayo, maayaiye
Even if you bring countless armies, O Maya!
Can you stand up to a clear mind, blazing like fire, O Maya!
3. என்னைக் கெடுப்பதற்கு எண்ணமுற் றாய்கெட்ட மாயையே - நான்
உன்னைக் கெடுப்பது உறுதிஎன் றேஉணர் மாயையே
Ennai keḍuppadaṟku eṇṇamuṟṟaay keṭṭa, maayaiye
Naan unnai keḍuppadu uṟudi endṟe uṇar, maayaiye
You are resolved to destroy me, O evil Maya!
But know that I shall certainly crush you, O Maya!
4. சாகத் துணியில் சமுத்திரம் எம்மட்டு மாயையே - இந்தத்
தேகம்பொய் என்றுணர் தீரரை என்செய்வாய் மாயையே
Saaga tuṇiyil samudiram emmaṭṭu, maayaiye
Inda degam poy eṇḍruṇar dheerarai enseyvaay, maayaiye
When one is ready for death even, will he fear the mighty ocean? O Maya!
One who has realized this body as false, what can you do to him? O Maya!
5. நீதரும் இன்பத்தை நேரென்று கொள்வனோ மாயையே - சிங்கம்
நாய்தரக் கொள்ளுமோ நல்லர சாட்சியை மாயையே
Ni tharum inbattai nereṇḍru kol̤vaano, maayaiye
Siṅgam naay thara kol̤l̤umo nall arasaaṭchiyai, maayaiye
The pleasures you give, would I take them as true? O Maya!
Will a lion take his kingdom from a dog, O Maya!
6. என்னிச்சை கொண்டுனை எற்றி விடவல்லேன் மாயையே - இனி

Today 9/11 (:-() in the US and 11/9 in India happens to be Bharathiyar Ninaivu Naal (his death anniversary). He was a journalist, poet, writer, teacher, patriot and activist all rolled into one. He was born 11 December 1882 and died 11 September 1921. Died young at 38.
What he achieved in his short life span was monumental. Synonymous with his turban and moustache. Mundaasu kavignan, Thamizhin Pare Aallumai. Fitting to pronounce his name BharaTHEE …he had more fire in his belly than what u would see in one lakh furnances :-)
Very note worthy performance by Madhu and her team. Madhu’s extra effort to get the pronunciations right was very much evident. Malar adding more action and spice to the proceedings. A fitting tribute to the great man on his death anniversary today.
My favorite Bharathiyaar song from the thamizh movies would be from the movie kai kodutha deivam (1964), sung by TMS, LR Easwari and JV Rahuvulu and enacted by the God of acting, the one and only Nadigar thilagam Sivaji Ganesan.

The audio volume during Madhu’s speech could have been a bit louder.
Bharathiyaar would have blessed Madhu more had she said “Indha Paattu” instead of “Indha song” several times during her speech :-)

Very nice!! This song of Bharathiar was likely written by him in a mood of disgust and defiance at the material illusions that trap the soul and the harms it brings there forth to it. As I was listening to it, it also sounded that he may have been alluding secretly to the Imperial rule as Mayaye. Either way, the mood of the poet and its grandeur has been brought out very well by the vocals and visuals. The choice of the raga (Sumanasa ranjani???), the backdrop for the visuals, the dance choreography and the choice of the instruments all added mystery and grandeur which aptly reflects the poet's impressions. Congratulations. Please try to include the entire poem without skipping any of his verses to do justice to such an intriguing poem.
