What if the scammers download a keylogger onto the person's computer and has the person log into their bank account? If those people don't have two factor authentication, then what's stopping the scammers from actually accessing the bank accounts themselves later on? VPN's are a thing, so they can make it appear like they are in the same city the victims are in. Sure, the victim can later talk to the bank about their money being gone, but by that time the scammers could have already laundered it away by using various services like Paxful. When the scammers obtain access to the computers they have essentially free reign on the person's machine, they can do pretty much whatever to it. @@christianponce4836 Most definitely not. It would ruin his credibility to start off with a lie. However, it wouldn't be a problem if he has a job somewhere to present himself as someone from that company. For instance, let's say that Jim has a weekend job collecting mail at Google, he could say Hi, I'm Jim, from Google. But I don't think it matters much because it's just much easier to convince someone of a lie than to convince them they're being lied to. Using the same tactics is only serving to prime the victim to be convinced by charisma instead of factual information. That's not helping but damaging. I know that society as a whole leans towards trusting convincing voices rather than facts because it's just easier to rely on feeling than it is to rely on thinking critically, but that's something we need to change, not something we need to encourage by perpetuating it. I think that Jim is one of the better examples of how to approach a victim in an encouraging and understanding manner while also providing useful information that helps arm people against the next scam. In the end, if people let Jim explain, they don't have to trust him at all because Jim explained what happened and how they can check it and that they should contact their own bank about it.

Come on, the scammers spend hours and days with their victims, manipulate them to think they're on their side or are bosses/FBI or something like that and only much later, when they won't pay, do the threats start. The victims are so fished in they don't know what to do, and are terrified.
It's easy to trick people. It's hard to convince them that they've been tricked. The scammers don't present themselves as randoms, they take positions of authority (some government agency, a technician from a telecomms company, etc.). Because of this, they gain a level of trust from the victim, with nothing to challenge it. Later on, Jim calls them, without any kind of ostensible authority, and proceeds to tell them to disobey this other person who they presume has some kind of authority over them. That's why they're suspicious.
Because from victim's perspective: They got a call about a fake item being purchased from their account/some virus in their computer and THEY reach out to the call center(scammer). Then scammer get enough time(30-60 minutes) to sell a well choreographed story. Whereas Jim is calling them out of no where, without any context or story. For them this looks more suspicious, and rightly so. I think Jim took some failures to learn to choose the words carefully to win trust in minimum time.
It's continually mindblowing how accepting these people are to have strangers take thousands of dollars from them, yet when Jim calls them and tells them not to send money cause it's a scam, **then** they're skeptical. Like really? The part where you're being told to not spend any money is what you find weird?
The people who get caught in these kind of scams ....let's just say they're not the sharpest when it comes to technology or anything technical in nature. That's why they get duped. Why do you think they're only white people who get scammed? Not Indians themselves? Because they're aware of these stuff. White people aren't
well in this case, I believe the scammers were using threats instead of simple trickery to get the money. The man who was in the process of being scammed said it quite a bit that if he didn't proceed with what they were asking, they would ruin him financially. the reason they call the scammers in the first place is that they expect support. they get a strange email talking about money and so they expect these people to be some sort of support so yeah I don't blame them, especially as I'm sure 99% of those who are scammed are old and barely know anything about the internet.

With these victims generally being elderly, then they're probably unaware of the dangers and what types of things can be done to their computers.

The majority of it is old people, who get intimidated with threats to do the transfers. Or where they pretend to be working for the bank. Please keep up your great work, from New Zealand.

The boldness of making it as well, lol. Back in the day, people thought that Nkem Owoh

Or becoming a bank robber after watching money heist
Or like becoming a shark from watching sharknado :O
@@vksasdgaming9472 Didnt you know that Walters agenda was not to secure financial future of his family? In the end he said that he did it only because he liked to do meth.
Random Indian dude: "Send me 12 thousand dollars while I watch you on your webcam and threaten you if you don't do it"
Old people: "Seems legit, have my entire savings"
Jim: "Please don't send your entire savings to random people who call you"
Old people: "Hmmmm this is suspicious who is this?"
That is strange but true
True I'm stunned
Well because Jim doesn't threaten them unlike the scammers so they dare to ask questions
@@SumitYadav-ik2df yeah the government worked real hard to stop this madness in India
well in this case, I believe the scammers were using threats instead of simple trickery to get the money.

I love when he saves an elderly person from being scammed. He’s a hero
But how many of them can he save ? Jim and some Other scambaiters showed on their channel how many people these guys scam everyday and how much money they make. It’s mind boggling that there are so many dumb people ( sorry to say ). Because these scams doesn’t even make any sense, most people start laughing when they hear their pitch .
@@balwindergill1 The problem with this is it targets dumb people, or rather the word I'd like to use "uneducated" which means they're purposely targetting the most vulnerable part of the population so every victim saved counts, the victims aren't just numbers, they're people with their savings on the line so yes it does matter a lot, I know you aren't saying that they mean nothing but it does mean a lot to the victim I'd imagine. When Jim calls the victims he is not convincing enough, you need to work on that Jim
You should tell the victims your a investigator and not straight up say you’re being scammed, cause the victims straight up think somethings fishy why are you calling them.
Very true. No offense, you’re already doing so much for the victims of scammers but from a victim’s perspective, if I was in a state of panic over potentially losing a lot of money and someone called me and suddenly described exactly what was going on, I’d be wary too.
Like the person above said, you can probably start with something like you investigate scammers for a living or something ( I dunno ). And I think someone said it before on a previous video of yours, but letting people know the scammers criminals would help, some people don’t really make that connection due to the many ways the word “scam” is used.
When helping people, it’s important to reassure them and not increase their confusion, it only makes them act rashly. That said, keep up the great work!! You’re saving so many people already.
This is an important comment Browning needs to look at.
Honesty is more important. If he's called on it, it would make the situation far worse.

It's sad how victims tend to be suspicious of someone trying to stop them from being scammed and not at all of the scammers themselves.
for some reason people tend to trust the first source they hear, and mistrust anything contradicting it
I hate to say this but it’s because they’re not very bright. Boomers and the elderly are so gullible. I’m not saying getting scammed is their fault. But I don’t get why anyone would ever think gift cards are a legitimate way of initiating a transaction. Even if you’re old and technology confuses you, I still don’t see how anyone could fall for this, unless they had serious dementia/Alzheimer’s. It’s very sad.
I’ll never understand how someone thinks buying a gift card to tell to someone will earn them their own money back. Like… in what world is this ever how a transaction is done.
As far as I know the scammers go like:
- Alright I’m gonna transfer back your money to your account… oops, I typed the wrong number. Please buy a gift card so that I don’t lose money
Or something along the lines of: in order to verify that it is you, you need to send us a gift card. Once we receive it, we will pay you back for your gift card and the amount we supposedly need to pay you.
Keep in mind, they’re usually older people who don’t fully understand the ever-changing world. For all they know, buying gift cards might be the cool new way to pay people money.
My mom's ex just recently fell for the Amazon scam and they got $1500 off him in 3 $500 gift cards. Seemed like he realized too late too, because when we were trying to figure out what happened he was really hesitant to say certain important details that made it stupidly obvious he was being scammed.
People do stupid shit when they panic. A lot of old people panic when they receive a call that the police is about to head their way, for example.
