Tim and Matt have said on their Veep podcast that the entire cast was invested in this romance and would get so excited at the table reads whenever Kent and Sue had these scenes together. I have never felt so validated.
Flattering and bickering is not neccessarily flirting and at some point that were borderline dismissive and hateful towards each other. Not everything can be explained away by ''flirting'' as there are many forms of human interaction...
I wish more shows would do this type of thing, where subplots/relationships/character interactions are happening largely offscreen, while still being clearly acknowledged in the show. It really does a lot to add depth to a character/cast, without sacrificing the show's pacing. Also makes the characters seem more like real people
I agree. The subplots don’t necessarily need to evolve into a fully formed storyline but they just exist to humanize the characters. I think that’s one of the reasons Veep moves so fast. There’s a lot of interactions happening at once.
@@JITCompilation ''Some people'' did NOT ''miss'' anything, they just interpreted their relationship in a different way. Unless it's shown or strongly implied, ALL of them are valid. Not all relationships, even tension-filled, become romantic/sexual, plus Sue was shown with ONE guy in bed/near her throughout seasons she was in. So again, nobody ''missed'' anything because them being together or not wasn't implied but was left up to audience.
+glitch4465 Sue has a boyfriend. Since we never got wind of her breaking up with him, I always assumed this Kent thing was mostly as we see it on-screen, a messed-up 'almost' relationship.
“I will not HAVE a scene”...while he makes a scene. lol. I love Kent. But it sucks that Sufe Bradshaw’s illness prevented her from being in the later seasons. At least we still got one last Sue scene in the finale.
I just got into Veep and am on the fourth season. I really shipped the hell out of Kent and Sue thus far. They have this strange, electric chemistry. I could totally see them hooking up. Shame that we don't see that happen!!
Well, aren't you a special cupcake??? Writers can't drop something they didn't develop in the first place... Often light workplace flirtation doesn't go anywhere, plus she was already with a guy.
@@curranfrank2854 It's not clear that it ended because it was never clear whether it started at all or went beyond professional light flirtation (I personally think it didn't).
If there was a Dan and Amy version of this, it would be twice the length. But this was a nice subplot. Too bad they dropped it, and Sue eventually disappeared.
No man in history has ever laughed that hard at a woman’s joke if he wasn’t in love with her. he was smitten, but she was not interested. Just got into veep in 2024, it’s a good show.😊

Kent's "I will not have a scene!" as he storms out after her always kills me
He's used to a better class of tone.
I literally couldn't breath when that happened!! I almost choked from laughing!
"I respect your brevity... it's almost... threatening". Kent is just the best.
it's amazing how 4 minutes of the vaugest form of flirting have made me want them together more than any other couple currently on television
Then you certainly have not seen Gary Cole in The Good Wife with Christine Baranski. THAT you need to see.
I mean, Selina and Tom surpassed this in later seasons, but yes, Kent and Sue are still a very close second for me.
We will continue our pleasant chat at a later date.

They did that really well with The Haunting of Bly Manor and the cook and the housekeeper.
Many satirical comedy series do that.
I agree. I also think some people in these comments missed the implication that Kent and Sue got together and then broke up.
