My 03 lincoln towncar did the same thing. We jumped the car, still nothing. I had gotten underneath the car and changed the starter. We turned the ignition and heard a loud "click". We jumped the car again and this time it started. As soon as we shut it off, had to jump it again. The alternator had to be replaced as well. Car had been sitting for awhile.
I am sure you firgured it out by now , but your battery may not be strong enough to start the car but lights up the dashboard. Battery terminal could be loose , damaged or covered in battery acid. The alternator could be bad. the solenoido on the starter, sometimes if the car isn't in park all the way. That can keep the car from starting.
Did you check the battery connection at the starter? My '07 Town Car was doing the same thing yours is and it turned out to be the battery end of the starter had completely corroded off.
The red light on top of dash is it a steady glow or rapid flash (indicates imobilatizon) or a continual 2 second blink or 3 sec steady then off while the key is in the #4 position means Normal function .
I have the same issue its ur cpu which is located drivers door...replace it and get it reprogramed....try this in the meanwhile....turn key all the way like ur going to turn on and leave it....make sure its quiet...u will after about a minute or two the battery light and chime will come on and u should HEAR the feul pump engage u should b able to turn on ur car and let it warm up...but u have to allow it with the ignition on for a while 2, 3 min...hope this helps...
Check starter power and ground and maybe get an amp clamp see if the starter wire is actually getting power. Maybe get a scan tool from auto zone or something and see if it has diagnostic codes.
I’m sure you figured it out by now but same thing happened to me when I had a subwoofer installed. It fried the primary battery cable that goes to like 6 places throughout the car
You have to turn the key to on position when you hear your fuel pump open is when you can start it I bought my Lincoln town car because the person had the same problem not knowing he js didn’t know how to start a Lincoln .
If the interior lights and dash lights turn off or go really dim when you turn the key it’s most likely a battery issue I just bought a Lincoln town car and that’s exactly what happened I charged the battery overnight and it started right up the next morning

I'm having the same problem, car been at the Ford dealer 2 months allready, they can't figure it out, last thing they told me was that a Lincoln Specialist is coming over to look at it,... FRUSTRATING. Ford and Lincoln same damn thing. UPDATE after 7 months at the dealer they couldn't figure it out, so I took it to an electrical shop, started unplugging connectors everywhere, chased some wiring and WALLAHHH found the problem. That guy found some of my problem and I did the rest cause it gets expensive fast. I bet there's a lot of Lincoln's at the wrecking yards for the problem that I had, cause people give up.

@@travisgraves2698 Hi Travis, it seems some Lincoln's had the same issues. In my experience it was several things that turn out wrong. My starter was bad including the wiring from the starter. Also underneath my steering wheel the wiring to the ignition there was an issue.
@travisgraves2698 it might be ur pcm is bad...the computer. I ha e an 03 and I had to buy a new pcm and the have it installed and reprogrammed...when u drive do ur gas and maybe mileage flicker?..or when starting the feul pump doesn't engage..if so it's the pcm like mine

Shift it into Neutral, then start it, your car is thinking that the parking parking prawl is not engaged, my 05 Crown Victoria did this. Once I put it in Neutral she fired right up.
Mine is doing the exact same thing except all my dash lights do not turn on only my digital cluster I’ve already changed the ignition switch and still nuthin think it may be a drain somewhere or dead short what people have been telling me

Trying to overcome the problem of the security light staying on. My Lincoln wont start so i made two new keys. The locksmith installed a transponder and possibly other parts in the ignition switch. The Lincoln mechanic also installed two more electrical components on the steering column. Sent the computer to a place in Florida and the computer checked out ok. Now removing the instrument panel and im looking for a circuit to bypass the security system. If anyone knows how to bypass the security system, please let me know. Thank you.

I stopped to check air pressure in tires and that was the last time she ran,,, psi was off, the indicators dash were air suspension service engine soon The digital mph would not illuminate reverse lights quit and back up warning chime stopped working when I reset the message board from Change oil now To oil life 100% That would then oh man I can’t keep up with the funky behaviors this cars options have I’m in over my head ? For sale ? All this and a water pump replacement did not keep the motor from starting.
Had the same happen with my 2002 one. It usually happens when the battery is low in charge. Usually trying to jump it off will allow it to turn over to start.
My engine won’t turn over and won’t start to turn over just give a shit down so like it is trying to set an alarm but it won’t the starter sounds like it’s trying to start but it won’t start the car basically
This could be if you issues one. Your battery connections are corroded. Also, the anti-theft could be turned on and since you let the car die it doesn't recognize the key chip in your key.
Craig Edwards Yes I did found out the problem. I took it to a local Ford Dealership and they said it was a wire underneath the dash board by the OBD ll where there was a wire chewed up. As well as a bad starter.
Daniel Melendez I found out why my car wouldn't start when I put my car in park my mechanic found out why he said when I put my car in park my shifter cable was not all the way up to park that why it would not start I went to the ford house a brought a shifter cable and that fix my problem back in business
Yes, it was my two major things the starter went out and stopped working completely. The second thing was a loose wire underneath my dashboard that was causing a electrical issue.

It’s an anti theft measure. Push the unlock button on your key fob then try to start it.

You probably have a bad starter.. but try it in Neutral.

Move your shifter up and down
Press down on the brakes like 5-6 times, make sure parking brake is not on...can be the starter
Run a wire to the starter mine did that I had a blowed fuse to the starter
Mines does this because of the transmission replacement, try putting it in drive and then back to park and then turn on
It’s the transponder chip in your key, try using one of your spares

Hi, yes they figured out the issue. It was the starter and the starter cables that were loose. A new starter had to be replaced.

It's the relay under the hood the pcm relay I think it's called it's right next to the horn relay

on my 2003 it was the neutral switch that mounts on the transmission I bought one for 89.00 bucks at the autoparts and starts right up

Literally had the same problem and my personal mechanic showed me that you have to make sure it’s all the way in park.
My 03 did that as well and all it was, was a dead battery just jump it and it should start up all right.
