I've enjoyed visiting with you in your "new" creative space. Here's to many many hours of deep flow and creative fun there. I'm super curious to hear from your neighbour. She sounds like she could become a fun new cameo character for your channel.
I enjoy the videos! I’m never going to reproduce anyone’s page, and I don’t fret if I don’t have the same materials, I just swap something in. I do like to hear your creative process though so the chat and colour suit me well! I’ve found I’m more willing to just play with the stuff I already have, I don’t own any alcohol markers for example, and I just watch to see how you do things. It’s really interesting!
That’s perfect Catherine….we don’t always need the same supplies - the videos are just a jumping off point, and often just spark ideas for how to adapt what you already have 👍 thanks for watching!
I went from having an entire room for my studio, to losing literally everything in a natural disaster, to being in a very small space. By far my most useful items are shelves large enough vertically to hold books and pencil cases, and some nice sturdy drawers of various depths. Books and such are heavy.. so I'd suggest good solid pieces. I'm currently using a lot of plastic due to cost restrictions and I have had issues with them deforming over time due to weight. I also invest in containers to hold and organize my stuff, it's so pleasing to me to be able to grab something and have it right there at my fingertips where I can see every color. Tins for watercolors, everything in pans. Single page single looped zipper pencil cases for everything that will fit in one. An organizer for my alcohol markers, mine is a wooden cube but I have seen cases. My Tombows are in their own branded case and they do make lovely ones, both the portable and desktop version are 100% worth the money. I have a desk, with a desktop easel.. it's similar to a drafting table which is my preferred style as it can be used at various angles including flat. I do all my coloring on a lapdesk though. Little zippered bags, pencil/pen cups.. etc. Very much aimed on small footprint, yet everything at hand as much as possible.
That must have been heartbreaking 💔 I started my major decluttering after parts of Australia experienced devastating bushfires and vowed not to to invest too much emotion into material possessions again, but I think it’s a very human trait to collect things that have importance to us. Having said that, today I have moved my art things back into the room I plan to become my “studio” and I’ve collected more than I feel comfortable with again 🙃 time to reassess!
I painted at night for decades. The most cost effective yet excellent lighting is a full spectrum incandescent bulb (here we have a brand called "reveal" but there are now generic full spectrum bulbs as well). Depending on your desk situation you can use a clip lamp, a desk lamp or my favorite... a stand/floor lamp with directional hoods.. check second hand stores they often have stand lamps dirt cheap. You need two. The key is to turn off any overhead light and have light directed at your surface from both sides equally, this removes shadows.
I am sitting in front of a window with natural light but I agree, light from each side will help a lot 👍 I will go shopping once I have a good idea of all the things I need rather than just “want” 😉
Hi Jackie! Beautifull page already! My copy of this book costs me a lot, so i don’t dare to use watercoloring on it. That said i did not use watercolor on any page. I don’t know why but i always use products what’s give me comfort and i don’t want to push myself yet…..but although i color on a different way with other materials i do like your vid’s and i appreciate you a lot. When i do a hobby what ever what, i like to listen to youtubers and i pick up ideas wich i am going to try out and learn, i like to listen to what you and others have to say. I am really curious how this page come out! It will be awesone!
Welcome! Thanks for joining us, I hope you enjoy the content (I try to put things in the playlists to make it easier to find things). Thanks for watching, Jackie
