  • www.paypal.me/... - If you liked this video you can support me for making more awesome videos! Thanks!
    In This video I will show you how to make electric match or e-match at home. These are used in pyrotechnics for precise, safe and controlled ignition, but they are hard to come by in many places.
    They are safer way to ignite your desired composition, so I am showing you how to make them.
    I made 10 of these in 25 minutes or so, and they are not complicated to make.
    Nitrocellulose lacquer can be made by dissolving ping pong balls or smokeless gun powder in acetone. Because of solvent present - don’t keep the e-matches in lacquer for too long, because tapes glue will dissolve in it and mess up the e-match!
    Keep safe, comment, like and subscribe!

    This was a great video for some eaxy to make igniters! We use a similar system for rocket motor igniters in high power rocketry. The big composite Ammonium Perchlorate motors can me quite difficult to i initiate so most of the time we usually wrap a chunk of propellant on the end of the igniter and use a wooden dowel to push it up inside the motor. We usually leave the stick in with it when the motor lights its incinerated. Thanks for your videos the are most interesting, I like your voice too.

    thanks for the content, I have one question, I want to put this e-match inside the blastic bottle of petrol, however, I have a little concern about the petrol, may make the match lose or solve in the petrol, is there any way to protect the match inside not air environment?

    • @TheMrbunGee
      @TheMrbunGee  2 роки тому

      You could try wrapping in polyethylene plastic, or smearing with silicone. You gonna have to do some tests, cause I don't know how well they will hold up against petrol. Also this exact match will not light petrol when submerged in it. Has to be in air near petrol.

    The little stain you see on a match stem near the sulfur tip is paraffin wax and it is fuel to keep the match lit after striking, I'm wondering if this would also work to dip-seal them.

    • @TheMrbunGee
      @TheMrbunGee  4 роки тому

      It would help to keep moisture out, but the coating is very thin, and the wax is soft, it can be destroyed with no effort. Thicker coating of wax could be used, but there is a risk, that melted wax would dampen the chemicals, failing the ignition, so nitrocelulose is the coating of choice.

  • @simonsuarez7561
    @simonsuarez7561 Рік тому

    Is it mandatory to dip the match into the nitrocelulose?

  • @chairman7808
    @chairman7808 3 роки тому +1

    The solvent didn't light because you had the igniter "in" the solvent. It is the solvent VAPOUR that burns because the solvent needs oxygen to burn. The igniter in the solvent had no oxygen source so the liquid solvent snuffed the match by depriving it of oxygen. This is the same reason that a completely full gas can will only burn (only small amount of fuel can react with oxygen at the spout) while an almost empty gas can will explode (large amount of vapour and oxygen mixed).

    • @TheMrbunGee
      @TheMrbunGee  4 роки тому

      It depends completely on exact dimensions of the build, 12V lead-acid battery is the safe choice, if other power sources are used then thinner resistance wire should be used.
      This particular e-match was ignited using 16A rated relay, but the current was probably limited by thin copper wires leading to nichrome.

    The only problem I see is that the tape is also burning, and that creates nasty fumes (as it’s made of PVC). Maybe it’d better to replace it with other kind of tape (paper, aluminium, Kapton)?

    • @TheMrbunGee
      @TheMrbunGee  4 роки тому +1

      The tape is there because you need to electrically insulate the both ends of resistance wire. So aluminum tape is off the table, but you can use whatever means of insulating the connections from one to another. Even no tape, if you can find the way.
      Electrical tape gave me the best reliability of the e-match, also the time to make this is minimized, these were the main attributions for e-match I was making at the time.
      That said - where are you going to use them, if you are worried about the fumes?

    • @GRBtutorials
      @GRBtutorials 4 роки тому +1

      TheMrbunGee Yeah, forgot about that (though there might be aluminum tape with insulation). Actually, I just remembered the reason why I found the tape strange: once I tried with electrical tape, and it burnt before the match ignited, but I was also using copper wire rather than nichrome (which I don’t have) and I wound it in another way.

    • @TheMrbunGee
      @TheMrbunGee  7 років тому +1

      For this I used 12V acid accumulator, but you can use smaller one! Smaller batteries might not work if your nichrome wire is too thick, and you can always connect two batteries in series, to double the voltage.
      For longer distances you should also increase voltage or lead wires thickness! So it really depends on distance to fuse from battery, lead wire and nichrome wire thickness!

    • @TheMrbunGee
      @TheMrbunGee  4 роки тому

      It is not crucial, but serves few good purposes:
      * Increased protection from moisture, That increases storage time, also allows to burn under water (for whatever reason one would need that)
      * Nitro-lacquer is flammable and makes contact with both - resistance wire and match head, this greatly increases reliability.
      * Lacquer holds the wire in place, so one does not have to be so careful, working with the fuse.
      * The layer makes the quick-match more resistant to accidental ignition from accidental friction.
      I think it is worth the extra small step, or these perks could be achieved by any other means.

    One thing I have my doubts about.
    Ignition occures due to a relative High current, heating up and igniting the matches, right?
    Your way of connecting the wire to the NiCh wire is to poor.
    I'd suggest some way of krimping them together. The way the wires are connected will couse some kind of (low) resistance which might limit the hight of the current. That is no big deal when you got a chargable Battery closeby, but when you want to ignite something from a distance, using a long wire, the wire might add to the total resistance along with the poor connection on the match, that it is less reliable. Unless you use a thick cable, which itself is usualy expensive.
    Using a big battery closeby the item you like to ignite might be a problem if the ignition is planned to do some bigger damage also. :-)
    Speaking of matches... You sweet 'n soft voice does'nt match your hands. ;-)

    • @TheMrbunGee
      @TheMrbunGee  3 роки тому

      Better connection will increase reliability, but I never had a single problem with these, made like they were. I guess the easiest way would be wind wires together and squeeze with pliers. Also resistance wire is too thick in this video, more secure connection could be made with thinner wire.
      Wireless firing also removes the resistance issue, One can buy 10 channel wireless relay module for ~ 10-20$, It will save time money. recommend!
      And for bigger stuff I just dig a small hole about 5m from event location, put the firing brick in it and cover with ply wood. Never had issue with up to 5m cable, same as in the video.
      You mean You did not notice it is synthetic voice? :D
      Thanks for feedback, have a nice day! :)

      Sometimes You need more reliability and/or more heat for ignition. I do not find this complicated at all, it is exactly a battery and resistive wire, only around match head and with optional water resistance. Works well together, but not all parts are necessary.

    How do you make the remote control detonator that attached to the battery ?

    • @TheMrbunGee
      @TheMrbunGee  Рік тому

      It is made from car central lock module, there are multiple relays which connect battery with igniter in this case.
