1st August 1995, I'm heading to Fort William (From West Lothian) on my brand new bike. I stop at Crianlarich for a bite to eat. Loads and loads of Indians pass by. A few months later I see this program on tv about an Indian rally in Scotland. I've always wanted to see it again. Now I have, brilliant.

Indians have a distinctive exhaust sound, kind of a "dry" machine gun chatter.

The first Indian was released in 1901 and If you're ever run an antique machine from the really early period, you know that the engine speed was easiest regulated with the ignition timing, because changing the carburetor setting was with separate gas and air knobs and levers, you had to manually adjust the carb for best mixture at the speed you chose to have the engine running at. First Indians had the speed regulating ignition lever on the right handlebar and a tiller for the throttle on the central tube close to the carburettor. One of the most successful invention that Oscar Hedstrom made, and one that made the Indian at one time the world's largest vehicle factory, was that he improved the carburettor so that it mixed air and gas more automaticly, and the engine speed could quickly and more easily be regulated with the throttle. Subsequently regulating the throttle was moved up to the handlebar for more conveniance. Still Indian Factory had as standard the ignition adjustment on the right handlebar from the very first until the very last bike.

One thing about bikers around the world. They accept anyone and everyone to ride with them. Don't matter the color of their skin or what sexual preference they desire. We are all one. If everyone rode a motorcycle together, the world would be a better place. A husband and wife had a rocky marriage. Went to a counselor for help with no avail. He rode a bike and she did not. Finally got her to ride her first time and now they are inseparable. You know the old question. Have you ever seen a motorcycle at the psychiatrist office?

Ice always love very the look of the old chief and scout. The scout just looks like it can go anywhere and the chief...those fenders. It's one of the most iconic american designs that has ever existed. I think of the wings on a 57 chevy and how iconic they are. While I'll never probably own an original Indian Chief I just picked up an 800 Drifter. I know it's not an Indian old or new...but that look is just unbeatable IMO. Great doc.
