Some more tips from one of the devs at FAF (thanks again, Rowey!)
    - If you lose power like a T3 p-gen, it can be better to build lower tier power to revitalize your economy faster than trying to build the high tier one again. In this case, it would be better to reclaim the T3 p-gen and put it into two T2's to get the critical systems back up.
    - You only want to build enough power to be sufficient because otherwise it is a waste of mass invested.
    - For 1v1, it's correct that you don't want to over flow on mass. However, in team games, overflowed mass will be distributed across the team first before it is wasted so it does get used by other team members first.
    - Engineers won't reclaim if you are overflowing on mass.
    - Yes, units that have been killed give 75% of their base cost and the wrecks can be damaged to reduce that.
    - Trees do not have mass in them, and that's why they don't show up on the overlay. They do have energy reclaim.

Great videos. Im a big StarCraft 2 fan and had got my kids into it, along with my brother and father. This came up on Steam for.£1.79, and I just had to try it. All 5 of us hooked for the last week. Even my wife getting involved. Fantastic gem of a game. Seems to run in any hardware as well.

About hardware - when base game launch it wasnt so optimistic for everyone.

yeah the game's like 17 years old now (still looks amazing though even by modern standards), so any moderately recent hardware will crush it. However it's heavily single-threaded so if you end up with a huge unit count it can still slow down even modern CPUs.

I watched the Gyle videos and thought: hey! This could be a lot of fun. Learning curve is definitely steep, but with videos like these I'm hoping to hone my skills in no time!

I play this game more or less since day 1 and TA before that. Not playing permanently ... doing some other games here and there. But I do always come back ... because it is just great :-)!

Friends were looking for someone else to join their games since one of their mains was... not great (i.e. making t1s with t3 factories). I've always loved rts games but only ever played ds or flash rts games. I started playing around the same time as another guy and I'm not great and I've only gone against ai but I'm really enjoying the game so far. I'm generally pretty awful at games but even stuff it's great getting into a new one that I'm enjoying as I don't really get into many games due to finance stuff. I've always loved older games, one of my favourites being Dungeon Keeper, fps wise I loved Cube 2: Saurbraten growing up. Either way, I've only been playing a week or so and done about ten matches but Imma keep on because it's been so fun.
Thanks for the video! I've been getting the hang of stuff and while I already knew most of the stuff you covered, I only ever do minimal output since I've mostly rushed satt while allies did aircon and frontline while I contribute some higher tier stuff to the frontline. I'm gonna keep on with the tutorials to get better at doing army management and such; I'm actually running a 1v1 ai game while watching XD.

Great video! I learned about it from my older brother who used to play. I also played a bit when I was younger but then I had kind of forgotten about it for a while. I've recently had the itch to play again so I picked it back up.

You can purchase the game on steam for about $10, I believe.
But it usually goes on sale often. With Black Friday on the horizon, safe to assume that it will be back on sale. I got the bundle of all 3 SupCom games for just under $3 on Steam. Worth it!

My son introduced me to this last week as I was/am a C&C fan. I was completely confused by right-click and left-click options. Plus, I would like a tutorial on how to build defence and offence units, and how to make them patrol, fight, attack, return to base etc. Your videos were a good start, but there's a lot more to go.

You’re in luck! I have two more beginners guide videos, #4 being “How to Command an Army.”
I’d recommend starting with the next one in the series though, #3:

You will get used to clicks being opposite because most all RTS have it like that. Command and Conquer games are the only RTS games I know that you use primary click to both select units or move/attack. Have you ever played the "Mental Omega" unofficial expansion for red alert 2? it is awesome but very hard to get installed properly.

Gyle's casts revealed the light to my of the prowess of SupCom. I had SupCom in my steam library for several years and felt overwhelmed. After watching some of his casts and see FAF, I had to get into it. It also helped that one of my best friends love SupCom FA and was happy to hear about the FAF project.

The difference between patrol and attack move reclaim is: attack move stops if you're overflowing mass. Patrol just become a regular "move around and assist everything" patrol.
Oh, and if some assistable happens near a patroling engineer, it'll assist it (eg: repairing units, building, upgrading), so it can distract from reclaiming.

In response to your last question how did I find out about this game. I started playing beyond all reason 3 months ago and decided to check out a few other games in the genre. Im finding Supcom to be extremely confusing since im missing all the QoL features from beyond all reason but the art style of supcom is so dam cool I feel I need to give it a shot.

Commander is comma (‘) by default. So no need to assign him to a number.

I've got a bit of an obscure question, @4:06 when you have the engineer go on to his next project, how did you get the assist engi to begin follow order so abruptly after the primary engi is issued orders?
I ask this because my assist engis are always so delayed in following their primary build engi that it really hinders my apm, usually trying to get around that by selecting the assist engis ordering them move orders to within range of new project, and then reissuing the assist command.

Hmm, I... am not too sure!
I didn't do anything special, I just right clicked on the engineer with one selected. I know what you're talking about though, it's happened to me. Maybe someone reading this who knows could give us both an answer?
      Cheers

If the assisting engineer is capable of starting the new project, they will immediately go into action, and even start it if they happen to get there first. If the assistant is a lower tech than the project, they will not move until the project is started.

They are NOT functionally the same by any stretch of imagination. Attack move stops units moving when they're attacking. Moving or patrolling makes them fire while moving (i.e. T3 artillery won't fire at all on just move)
