Amazing to see this now you have the ACTUAL copy in your hands Ricky. I really enjoyed your DIY version last year so excited to see this being played 👍
Tremendous Sunday night and what to watch - then this pops up. Ricky Royal the man who got me into board gaming and made me buy my first game, which was hoplomachus by CTG and the man responsible for my empty wallet! Can’t wait for my KS to arrive but in the meantime I’m gonna sit down and watch this with a glass of cheap plonk - cheers Ricky 🥂
I’ve been really looking forward to this video &, as always, it doesn’t disappoint! I wouldn’t have heard of CTG if it wasn’t for you & Hoplo has become my favourite game. I went all in on the Victorum KS & am so excited for the big box of Hoplo goodness to arrive!
Interesting game. I am having a blast playhing Too Many Bones. Hoplomachus Victorium has been on my wish list for a long time. I am the kind of player who likes digging deep into games, so I own just a few of them, including TMB, Mage Knight and Spirit Island with all expansions. I wonder if Hoplomachus is worthy of becoming a member of this small family. :) By the way, nice video as always.
This highly anticipated video does not disappoint. I love all the bling you've added to your videos over the years! Nice draw bag, when is your daughter going to take international orders. ;)
Dunt. Dunt. Dunt, Dunt. Dunt. Dunt. Daaaah! ... The time is right. The time is here. The time is now! Ricky Royal puts up his first piece for the new Hoplomachus Victorum game. ... Wait! I've got to press the video back to start. I missed the beginning. : O
Great start, that's the first time we get to see Nox, she looks pretty cool! You need change that archer though, he only rolls blanks :D One thing to remember, tacticians CAN and do move on the turn they are deployed (Tactical keyword). It wouldn't have changed anything though but it definitely will in future battles.
@Box of Delights Thanks for the play through Ricky! Always enjoy them. A question though; at 19:34 you mention that the Tactician is dazed and can’t move, however he has the Tactical skill which allows the unit to move during the turn it is deployed. I am interpreting this incorrectly? If he can in fact move, can he also engage in combat if the movement places him within range? The skill doesn’t mention engagement though.
Hi Bob! Yes, a tactician CAN indeed MOVE the turn it is deployed. They cannot attack though, even if it puts them in range, so it is just a movement thing. I hopefully cover this in Part 2? best wishes, Ricky.
@@BoxofDelights Thanks Ricky! I should have watched the rest of the series to see if you commented on this. I’m off to have a look now. Happy New Year!!
15:50 - My understanding is that the only "elite" units are heroes, primuses and scions. So when picking your lineup, shouldn't your hero have been the only viable unit? Maybe the rules+definitions were different pre-release?
Excellent first match. Was there no tribune? I thought they had to be last to die in bloodshed events and were the first out the gate. Maybe this gets addressed later.
Two questions: 1) what about the replayability of this game? Is it like Mage Knight that i can play over and over and it never gets repeated? Or is it a legacy like gloomhaven that you play it once? 2) Where can i buy it?
If it's one or the other, I would say that the improvement of premium health over standard health is a much bigger leap than alloy dice over standard. The dice in the core box are quite nice, but I can't play without premium health. ;-) Granted, I'm a bit biased.
It s so hard to get games from this company. It s always sold out and the games are really expensive. I know that production value is above average but that means I cant access them in general. Thanks for showing it to us. By the way, what s the point of the red die. Couldnt that be replaced by one unavoidable hit on the unit s sheet?
Check out their sale; but yes, there is a place in the market for expensive games, and CTG likes to fill it. But there are plenty of alternatives to find, with 1000s of new games each year. The red die is still a die, so any effects that target dice would target the red die too.
@@BoxofDelights yes, I ll try to get them on sale or at least choose only one of their games. Im divided between Hoplomachus and TMB. Both are a lot of fun and have very cool mechanics.
@@BoxofDelights Based on your videos on Victorum and trust in your take overall, I'm opting for Remastered. I wanted to jump into Hoplo long, long ago but never did. Remastered looks to be just the streamlined experience from CTG I wanted--less faff, still solo and co-op friendly.😃
Having played through the first act I can say that any sense of repetition is hugely overshadowed by the variety of sport and bloodshed events. Progression is a very real factor in this as you Hero will effectively upgrade through Prowess cards (gained from completing opportunities), your troops will dynamically change through defeat in bloodshed and acquiring new recruits when winning Sport events, the Rivals get progressively harder as more Local units and Banes are added to the bag making the game harder as you go on. It’s not grind, it’s true progress and it’s immensely satisfying.
It's finally here! Ricky is THE voice I want to hear on the new Hoplo. Can't wait to see the whole series as it comes out!
Heck yeah - seconding that! Its not properly out until Ricky touched it and produced a video!
Yep. Probably been more excited for Ricky to play it than I am to play it myself 🤣
I have such memories of learning Mage Knight through your videos (and voice). Looking forward to learning this one as well. 👍🏼. Thank you.
my pleasure! thank you for watching and staying with the channel!
Oh damn - Ricky Royal with my most anticipated game ever.. so much looking forward to this…
Really enjoyed this play through mate so good thank you 😊

Thanks Ricky, I've been looking forward to your playthrough
Thanks a lot for another excellent video! To me your playthroughs are the best - you are an extraodinary „teacher on the fly“.
thank you ! glad you enjoyed it. Part 2 on its way....
I appreciate your playthroughs so much :)
Excellent play through. Thanks for sharing.
Been waiting for your Victorum videos to start dropping. Really excited for this series!
Thanks for the great playthrough! 12:59
When I heard the music, I knew it was "about to get real!"
Looking forward for the next video!
Hoplo isn’t Hoplo without Ricky Royal - that’s a scientific FACT!!

We've been waiting for this. Great game, and great series Ricky Royal.
Can t wait for all the 30 parts until your first scion !!
Also really excited for my Hero bundle to drop. Anyone know eta? Thanks for this video Ricky. Can't wait
Great intro! More Victorum content to get me hyped to receive my copy, wahoo!

The Tactician should have moved the turn it was deployed. Lovely video as always!
yes, absolutely. I make mention of it in the next part I think... R.R.
Great to see this series has started. Where is your bracelet made from drilled through Hoplo dice?! 😉
haha.. maybe this is something to do with my old spare dice....
@@BoxofDelights would be cool 😎
I had a heart attack when I saw the top right corner of the victorium box.
Oufff
i think it was Taotie trying to get out.
15:50 - My understanding is that the only "elite" units are heroes, primuses and scions. So when picking your lineup, shouldn't your hero have been the only viable unit? Maybe the rules+definitions were different pre-release?
Oh, I just figured it out. Non-elite ATTACKER units. So you can use non-elite units that are other types. My mistake!
you got it.
I always love your videos, Ricky...although they DO cost me real $$!! :)
Oh man, can your daughter make me a draw string bag like that ?!? It looks awesome
Excellent first match. Was there no tribune? I thought they had to be last to die in bloodshed events and were the first out the gate. Maybe this gets addressed later.
Not during a Bloodshed event. A Tribune is used during a Sport event. You will see a sport event later...
Should your hero have taken a wound from retaliate for the killing blow to the vesuvian? Or does retaliate not trigger on a killing blow?
it does not trigger if the foe is defeated
@@BoxofDelights interesting. I guess it depends on the game when an enemy retaliates upon death.
Two questions:
1) what about the replayability of this game? Is it like Mage Knight that i can play over and over and it never gets repeated? Or is it a legacy like gloomhaven that you play it once?
2) Where can i buy it?
it is indeed highly replayable
You can buy from chip theory games website
@@BoxofDelights thanks!
How great are the alloy dice? Worth the upgrade or am I better off getting the health chips?
If it's one or the other, I would say that the improvement of premium health over standard health is a much bigger leap than alloy dice over standard. The dice in the core box are quite nice, but I can't play without premium health. ;-) Granted, I'm a bit biased.

I haven't got the game. Can you build up your hero's health again?
yes, there are lots of ways to heal up; and you can heal back up to full health by resting between events as well.
Does everything of what you are showing here comes in the box? 😮
except the alloy dice and the lovely dice bag my daughter made me, and my pen.....
Any thoughty on the alloy dice? Are they worth it?
@ricky In your mind does this replace original Hoplo?
it doesn't; but Remastered might....
@@browe I guess you'll want a 'remastered' video ?! :)
@@BoxofDelights indeed! 😉
Krakenlance is deontay Wilder???
inspired :D
Ursula, in honor of Gladius?
it would have been good if it was; it just popped in my head, and I thought because of greek mythology... perhaps it was subconscious !
There’s not enough bones in this game 😄
:D
Let the repetitive grind begin :( This game needs more variety of match types, more dynamic battle elements and some sense of progression
Having played through the first act I can say that any sense of repetition is hugely overshadowed by the variety of sport and bloodshed events. Definitely not a grind... Hopefully I'll address this for you in the series, if you watch it.
