Correct. If the truck is an early year model 2011 or earlier with the orange gauge cluster the reset is done via ODO mode. If the truck is a model year late 2011 or later with the white gauge cluster then you'll reset from the Trip A mode.
Bought my 2015 toyota tacoma brand new. And the first time this light came on i freaked out. What the crap maintenance required light it's a new truck. Called Toyota they explained its the oil change light. Sigh of relief. Great video. Thank for all your help.
Well that was a informative and hot idea. I have had my MR light come on so I rushed down to the local Studebaker dealer. An they were closed!?! I called Toyota and they explained how they would shut it off, all I had to do was buy some oil and let them put it in. Somehow they didn't think my 2 gallons of salad oil I brought was funny and kept mumbling about how I was a few bricks short of a full stack, even after I told them it was my brother who was the brick mason. So I just taped a part of a business card over the light and haven't been bothered since. p.s. thanks for shipping my Tacomaholics order.
Here I thought it was some kinda fancy thing that got plugged into the computer! Toyota told me 5k for tire rotation and 10k for oil. What kind of oil are you running?
5k for tires rotation is perfect, but I wouldn't go 10k in between oil changes if Toyota is using regular conventional oil in your truck. I use the Mobil 1 Extended Performance which is rated for 15k miles. Here's a link: amzn.to/2J46TLc I'm going to change my oil next at about 8k miles just to check to see how it's holding up.
The Mobil 1 Extended Performance Full Synth. amzn.to/2Ntq44u Supposed to be good for 15k miles, but I'll check it at 8k or so since it's the first time I've used it.
Not to be a Picky Ricky but according to the manual for my 2013, you need to set it to Trip A first. Then turn it off, then hold the reset button while you turn it to the on position without starting the engine. The screen will have dashes that are flashing, I think 5 dashes, and you watch them flash and one by one they will drop off till all the dashes disappear. Then it has been reset. Picky picky picky. Sorry.😋
unfortunately I'm not allowed to do oil changes on my Tacoma. In order for me to keep my 280k mile/20 year full drive train warranty I have to take to the dealership or oil changer that has detailed receipt.
Yes it is. Got it from the Toyota dealer in Pinehurst NC. Got the same warranty on my wife's Highlander. It comes with many of their new and used vehicles. You get 20 year 200k mile (in addition to the miles already on the vehicle) power drive train warranty that matches the original Toyota 3 year warranty. The catch is you have to get all the recommended services, including oil changes at a "professional" shop with detail receipts of work performed. You can't go more than 700 miles over the service intervals to keep the warranty. So yes it is kind of a pain to have to take it to the dealer for basic stuff. But everything is covered including engine all the way to the wheel hubs for a long time.
Since you used Kilometers that means that you're in Canada (like me, hello) and Canadian model Tacoma's don't have a maintenance minder warning unless it's an American spec truck has been imported.
Mobil One is good for at least 16000 km (I routinely go 15,000 miles and it's still good). Your wasting oil, stripping out the drain plug, and wearing out the engine with dry starts. In addition the oil filter works better when it gets a little dirty. I'd at least go 10000 km assuming your using a good filter.
I love that I can have four people reasonably comfortable in my four door, the six foot box is great too though I wish they could've come with a manual in that configuration. The slush box is nice but I miss rowing through gears.

Just a reminder: some years the reset is done in ODO mode and some in trip A mode. My 2015 is in trip A mode.
My 2011 had to be done in Odo mode. Good tip.
Awesome tip! I was here trying to reset mine in trip B Mode. Saved me some time, thanks again!
Correct. If the truck is an early year model 2011 or earlier with the orange gauge cluster the reset is done via ODO mode. If the truck is a model year late 2011 or later with the white gauge cluster then you'll reset from the Trip A mode.
sweet! was getting frustrated at first, tried your method and worked fist time. thanks!
Thanks for the tip 5 years later! My 2014 required the same thing 👌🏻
FYI The 2013 requires you to be on trip A, but yes thank you this video was very helpful!
My 2014 is the same way. I totally forgot to mention that in the vid.
You are awesome!!! I was getting frustrated good thing I read the comments haha
Good video I love how you try to educate as was as Entertain!!
Thanks Adam! That's my goal. 😀

Lol same here. It would be nice to have a separate "change oil" indicator but oh well.
Well that was a informative and hot idea.

Mission accomplished.
Here I thought it was some kinda fancy thing that got plugged into the computer!

Tacomaholic using the Toyota synthetic. I’m over 155k!
Synthetic is the way to go.
What oil are you using?
The Mobil 1 Extended Performance Full Synth. amzn.to/2Ntq44u Supposed to be good for 15k miles, but I'll check it at 8k or so since it's the first time I've used it.
Tacomaholic when you say you will check it at 8K, what are you checking for?
Lmao that intro😆😎
Q: Will the light come on again when it’s time for your oil change or not now that you’ve messed with it?
No it won't come back on for another 5k miles.
Thank you !
Awesome. Thank you.
Good video help me
Only clicked because I honestly thought you were asking what is the maintenance required light...😂
Lol that would be scary if I didn't know that.
I will be doing this on Sunday when I change my oil...
Adding a Fumoto Valve at the same time??
I would if I knew what that was..lol
Oh check it out: amzn.to/2udxzng I talk about it beginning at 6:48 of the video here: ua-cam.com/video/RnAjO_t8cpA/v-deo.html

Actually that sounds right because I always keep my OD in Trip A since that's what I use to see how many miles in between tanks.
For future reference, a 2006 needs to be set to the ODO instead of Trip A.
Please note this is only applicable for American spec trucks. Trucks sold from new in the Canadian market will not have a maintenance minder.
Hmm interesting. Is that the same for other cars in Canada as well?
Why is the oil icon still on???
Because the engine wasn't started. Tons of lights pop up on the dash when you just have the truck "on" without the engine being on.

That's an impressive warranty!

ha i change my oil every 3000km and i use mobile one full synthetic
i never knew check engine light comes on if you go over km for oil change cool

I guess if they didn't have the light come on a ton of lazy people would forget to change their oil. 😀

I change my Tacoma's engine oil every 30,000 miles
Seriously?
Tacomaholic lol no. I change it every 5k miles. No more than 6k though
Lol you scared me there for a second!
School bus four doors
