  • This is an educational overview on the POWER COMPACT series amplifier models.
    These small chassis Power Series amplifiers take all the latest technology that Rockford Fosgate has developed and combined it with the power capability you've come to expect out of a Power Series amplifier, and we packed it into a small chassis heatsink who's performance is truly amazing. This video will take a closer look at these amplifiers, where they came from and what makes them up.
    The inspiration for the new compact power amps started from the Punch "PBR" series of compact amplifiers. When they were introduced, we quickly realized the sub-compact sized amplifier was becoming the solution to a lot of new applications. Custom motorcycle shops and offroad enthusiasts were introducing us to a whole new world of Rockford Fanatics. Using their imagination and skills to build some truly radically new machines. Seeing this, we asked the questions: Can we do more? Can we improve on the design and create something even better? With that challenge at hand, we set out to combine the best that Rockford has in amplifier technology and put it all together in a scaled down amplifier chassis.

    I just had the 400w installed, today, and it is extremely hot. What are people doing to solve this issue? I was thinking of getting a flat 1/4" piece of aluminum and mounting it to that so it increases the heat sink size. Maybe 2" longer and wider than the measurements of the amp so it also sits off the vehicle and gets air under it as well.

    • @rockfordfosgate
      @rockfordfosgate  Рік тому +2

      Unless the amplifier is getting too hot and shutting down, the heatsink is doing exactly what it’s designed for.

    • @apegollum
      @apegollum 2 місяці тому

      add a fan or two to it to help dissipate the heat faster. Reduce the impedence load you are putting it under. If running 1ohm, move up to 2. If running full range but only running mids/highs, consider active filtering. Those are a few ways that might reduce heat but it will likely be negligible.

    I just got the T750x1bd and I am blown away at the size and the “clean” look of this amp. It’s like a pinnacle of audio engineering.
    I have a few questions though:
    Is the “Punch EQ” knob on the amp, the same thing as the PLC2 controller? Is there an “optimal” tuning/set-point for these knobs?
    Is 8 AWG really sufficient for the power/gnd? The PVC said this amp was tested to 1,054 watts at 1ohm, and it seems like I would need a 4awg wire for that ampacity at 14.4V?
    Is the “Input Level” knob the same thing as Gain? (Thank you for the clipping lights, very cool!)

    • @rockfordfosgate
      @rockfordfosgate  4 роки тому +1

      The Punch EQ controls Bass: 0 to +18 dB @ 45 Hz and the PLC2 is a "level" control linked to the input level of the amplifier. Yes, the Input Level knob is the Gain. The Punch EQ and PLC2 should start off at minimum, then adjust to taste. The amplifier utilizes a Class BD topology with an > 85% efficiency. Since the max current at 1ohm is 86 A, this is within spec to around 15 feet. Since this is a bass amp, you'll likely be using a 1/0 cable from the charging system back to the amp rack, where you will be distributing power to all your amplifiers.

      @@charliejonesjr5518 Thanks for being a dedicated Rockford Fosgate fanatic! The amplifiers you listed are really great performers, especially the Power 1100a2 models. The unregulated power supply configuration of our circuit topology made Punch amplifiers famous with the 45, 75, and 150, and we continued to use that platform in the DSM models. Did you know, we still utilize that same platform in all current Rockford Fosgate amps? They still outperform their power ratings as the ones from the 1990's.

      Great question! The P3D4-12 sub2woofer is rated to handle 600W RMS. The T750X1bd is rated to produce 750 Watts x 1 @ 2-Ohm with Dynamic Power at 900W, so that's going to over power the subwoofer. The R2-500X1 will produce 500 Watts x 1 @ 2Ω with Dynamic Power at 590W, so that's a better matching amplifier.

      What model compact amplifier did you purchase? If you're looking for a shallow mounted subwoofer, the Power T1 Slim is what you're looking for. With the Punch P3S, people are accustomed to comparing it to the standard mount P3 subwoofer, while expecting more SPL and deeper bass, which is not the case. The Power T1 Slim is an outstanding subwoofer that provides equivalent performance to the standard sized T1 subwoofer.

    How would you compare and contrast your T1000X5AD with a competitively price, similarly powered amp - like the JL RD900/5?

    • @rockfordfosgate
      @rockfordfosgate  5 років тому +1

      The RD900/5 is $579.99 which is more in-line with the Punch P1000X5 which is $499.99. The main difference is the JL model utilizes all Class-D whereas the RF is Class-A/B on the front/rear and only Class-D on the sub channel. Many fanatics prefer the sound of Class-A/B on their midrange/tweeters due to the natural sound characteristics of the analog circuitry. Class-D isn't as big of a deal since it's harder to hear with sub frequencies. A secondary advantage of the Rockford Fosgate amplifier is the higher output power on the front/rear channels. If you wanted to compare against the compact Power T1000X5ad, the biggest difference is the CLEAN setup where it has both INPUT and OUTPUT clip LEDs, for a more precise setup configuration. I added links to both the Punch & Power amps below:
      RD900/5

    Just got the 4-channel 400 watt version and have a question about the setup using the CD. The first part is simple, just disconnect the speaker output on the amp, pop in the CD to the head unit, and raise the HU volume until the input clip LED flashes red, then dial back the volume a notch until the red LED goes out. The next part is confusing though, because it says you increase the input levels on the amp until the "appropriate color" comes on in the output clip LED, but doesn't say what color that is and the LED first goes to blue and then red.
    The instructions don't indicate if you stop the input when it turns blue, or dial it back until the blue light goes away, or increase it further until it turns red, or what. If someone knows, please let me know. FWIW, I tried it first by stopping when it turned blue but the volume was so loud even at low levels (my HU goes to 40 and it was loud at 10, whereas with my old R-F PBR300X4 it wasn't that loud at 40) that I dialed it back a quarter turn before it turns blue and it seems better.

    • @rockfordfosgate
      @rockfordfosgate  4 роки тому

      The 2nd part is done using the same method as the input clip. Please note that adjusting the clip indicators requires you to disconnect all speakers from the amplifier. With the source unit at the cleanest, highest output (that you just set during the 1st part), you increase the amplifier gain until the LED turns RED, then back it off until it only illuminates BLUE. You're done! All you need is to reduce the source unit volume and attach the speaker wires to the amplifier.
