Whatever people may say about him, Sardar Khushwant Singh was someone the like of him we shall never see again. He was simple, down to earth, had immense knowledge about nature, about literature, about politics, and above all, about people. He started as a lawyer because his father wanted him to be a building contractor which Mr Khushwant Singh detested, and then moved into a writer. He proved his mettle as an editor of magazines and newspapers. I had the privilege of meeting him on a few occasions when I was only a lowly staff of an organization, but he didn't show any condescension and talked to me as an equal. The most down-to-earth person one would see in life. A true Sardar, a true Sikh, who believed in equality of all. I consider him as my guru, like the other ten gurus that we Sikhs have. I bow to his memory and hope he has his Scotch every evening like I have today since I'm still alive. Ajaib Singh Kochar
To, Mr. Ajaib Singh Kochar Dear Sir, with the hope that you will read this message, i belong to Naushahra, Khushab, Pakistan. I am interested in History,,i can not describe my feeling when i came to know that you were born at the same village during 1937. Sir i am planning to launch a group to trace those persons who left from district Khshuab/Shahpur during 1947. Sir you are the first one i came to know,,it would be great to be in contact with you and waiting for ur kind respond. Thanks very much Adnan Alam Awan Islamabad, Pakistan adnan_gsp@yahoo.com
Khushwant was a great human being. When I translated some of his writings into Urdu, I sent him a copy through my friend Yousuf bhai [Mr Books], Khuwant Singh sent me a lovely postcard of appreciation. Postcards in Pakistan had already ceased to exist in Pakistan, so his was the last card that I received. Such a cherishable persona!
What a great man!. I practiced my English when I was in first year of college reading his columns in Illustrated Weekly of India. I don’t think I have ever finished reading anything he wrote without a smile.
What a giant entity and legend! Always found him in great spirit, unique and inspiring demeanours! There may be hardly anyone who could match his personality and be that mesmerising every time you meet, read or listen to him! Loved and respected his sentiments and memoirs for Pakistan and Pakistani people and Islamic culture despite being agnostic! May his soul rests in peace!
If Sikhs got along so well with Muslims why did they get thrown out of Pakistan during partition. Why were they forcing Sikhs to leave their daughters behind so the Sikhs killed their daughters. This guy is out of his mind. Our Gurus fought against Muslims. Guru Gobind Singh ji lost his four sons two in the battlefield and two little kids were put in the wall. How can he say Sikhs had a great relationship with Muslims.
When Muslims voted for Pakistan in 1945, why did many of them stay back? In fact, I do not have any ill will if Indian Muslims so long they support India and law abiding. I am against those who want to destroy India.
god is uncreated. for example we think that god made every thing but who made god? suppose someone says then who made god and suppose some one says ' god is made by another bigger god... so who made that bigger god, suppose another biggest god.. so if we keep going back, the answer is bigger n bigger god but at lastttt we have to stop on the last god. who must be uncreated. because our existence and such a perfect and profound system in this universe is proving that there is wise being up there who tunned this universe in a perfect manner. as we know that god is telling human beings from thousands of yrs that " i am one and only. i have no sons and parents. almost every religious book from thousands of yrs saying the same thing that' god is one. realistically god does not need sons or helpers .. so is one god and always be one.. he will not produce sons(other gods) to run this universe. cos he is god this universe is small piece of dust for him. he can manage every thing. so there is no doubt that he is one and only and he is from for ever. khudhwant has same thinking as some people have, they think that they will only believe go if he comes to this world n they see him and experience his power and god answers their every question. but god has made us the only speciy which has very powerful brain and our understanding level is much much higher than the other animals. god gave us this brain to think and analyze. if real god comes to earth no body will deny him. they will never disobey him because of his might n power... so we would have acted like robots. god gave us brain and free will to recognise him and right o wrong. we have to find god through this extra ordinary brain power. i hope , i answered khushwants singhs question.
Nice piece of trivia to know, for a general knowledge quiz. Has no effect whatsoever on my opinion of Khushwant Singh as a great, sharp and honest man.
if he doesn't believe in god then he is not a Sikh and should remove his turban and stop acting like a Sikh and his arguments for there being no god can be answered and it is his misunderstanding of at least what Sikhs say if not other religions and bhindranwale was not preaching hatred but rights and justice
before juddgin other....once look at yourself who are you to judge him veer j appa rab nu nai mande ta isda matlab eh nai k apa apna sidak v na kayam rakhiye we should have respect for every religion no matter if we believe in god or not he respect every religion j oho rab nu nai mande atles us bare bura v nai kehnde.......
A great interview. Mr. Kushwant Singh's replies were very honest and straight from his heart. He is still alive among us through his work.

Sardar was a recent hindu. His juri moustache,+beard need to be amended by pundit choti.
