You've done a great credit to Schultz by making this video. That it hasn't been deplatformed or ghosted by UA-cam proves that tptb support this article. And he left behind a wife and five children. Great and sensitive coverage.
Thanks for telling the story and setting the record straight. A very sad and unfortunate end for a great aviator. As an aside, I noticed a comment here from Pride Aircraft. I remember reading about those two jets when they were still in the public eye. It would be VERY interesting to hear that story...
Most fascinating and detailed insight into this very tragic event. Reminded me of Paco Geisler saying in one of your interviews that he didn't trust that damn ejection seat in his Mig-21 rides so he would choose to land that thing on the desert floor instead. That video is exactly the no-nonsense research you do so excellently about my two most fav bases in the US, TTR and Groom which is the main reason I enjoy your podcasts so much (still waiting for an interview with Hal Farley and Tom Morgenfeld on their time at PS22 and the Baja Scorpions ;-) . You not only researched and revealed the details of this mishap but revealed a bycatch as well, the crash of a RQ-180 at Groom in Dec 2016 which I never heard or read about before. Great job again, Steve! RIP Eric Doc Schultz.
As a long time fan (I have an imported and signed copy for your F-15 book from 2002), I appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us. Would love to buy a patch for Doc to support his family if you have a link?
At ~4:38 there is a photo of a Su-27. The caption mentions that the plane was “acquired by a white-world company, Pride Aircraft.” What is a white-world company? Something other than a second- or third-world country that might be ordering planes for its air force? A company (with its own non-Su) fleet buying it to examine and fly so that it can better understand the engineering, maneuverability, etc.? Or am I WAAAAY off?
"White" just refers to an organisation that is overtly operating in the foreign military acquisition space. The opposite would be "black", for an organisation that is doing the same work but with a cover story (i.e. pretends to do something else).
I regret having only just now found this video. Since the accident I had been curious of what happened, but there’s been so little out there. Much appreciation for telling the story. Immense respect for ‘Doc’. A DFC seems entirely earned, as that MUST have required incredible airmanship to get that Flanker, which was already digging into the lake bed, back into the air… which allowed his back seater to escape & survive. Heroic in my eyes. I d have a question if anyone could help. Near the end of the video when the commemorative patch is shown, the caption mentions “gray letters” which spell out “Doc”. I’ve looked at that image every way I know how to & just can’t make that out. Can anyone point them out to me? Thanks again for telling the story. It’s one that deserves being told, yet under the classifications it’s understandable how so few few know of this. All my best to the Schultz family. I hope and pray they are as well as they can be facing their loss. Rest well, ‘Doc’. 🫡🇺🇸

The intro is so 60’/70’s cool.
Very interesting story. Doc was a hero.
What a story and the format it was presented was so refreshing.

RIP Eric Doc Schultz.
Pretty sure that the RQ crash has never been reported.
Also really like the intro. The juxtaposition of the old school synth with the classic Cold War soviet jet footage does something to me !
RIP Doc. Thanks for telling the story Steve
Can't wait for this.
Gotta say, the last few episodes have been absolutely perfect!
Thank you for sharing this story, Steve. Fascinating!
Thank you for telling Doc Schultz story, at least the end of it. I imagine most of these would remain unsung.
Outstanding tribute, Steve, and excellent details. Salute and a nickel on the grass. 😔

Thanks, Chris. Sadly, no way to buy the patch... I was not even supposed to know that it existed.
Another amazing insight Steve. Thank you for sharing the real story and setting the record straight.
Superb as always, Steve - well done
Thanks for listening
Serious journalism is found here! Great video.
Very interesting ! Thank you for your research work and for bringing light about this tragic mishap. Always great quality content.
And RIP "Doc".
And now the other Flanker is on display in the USAF museum. Life is fascinating.
Your videos are really good .👍 I Subscribed you just now🙂
Thanks and welcome!
@@10percenttrue Hey where can I contact you. Can u give ur email...
RIP DOC
Fantastic intro, what's the song?
I think it's called Humanoids, but I can no longer find it on the stock music website I bought it from, so I can't offer a link. Shazam it?
Nickel on the grass for you Doc. 🦅🦅🦅🦅
A well told story - thank you! I note Lt. Col. Mark Kelly's name on the F-14. Later to become Astronaut Mark Kelly.
That's an F-15.
Mark Kelly is a embarrassment for Az.
Ok, this has got me super curious!!
Damn. I feel like Russian ejection seats have been the culprit on more than one occasion
Thank you

Look into the black/white hats
I think it's called Humanoids. I bought it from a stock music website, but I can no longer find it online. They may have taken it down.

I definitely agree with the " 10 percent true" part.

It's a bit tough to see, but the greyed letters are the D in "AD" (upper row), the O in "VOLABIMUS" (bottom row), and the C in "LUCEM" (upper row).
@@BerserkerCatSplat Outstanding. Thanks for that. I can’t help BUT see them now. Amazing how ‘the hidden’ can so quickly become ‘the obvious’. 👍🏼
@@OldStreetDoc Happy to help! They did a great job with the patch.
